If you're referring to yourself, congratulations; recognizing them is the first step.
The state of your mind is reinforced by your environment. Humans have an instinctual need to surround themselves with a world that fits what they expect. Generally, humans will see and interpret, exactly what they want to. So, a conscious effort to move yourself out of that "comfort zone" is often a very good first step.
It's kind of like a "shock therapy." Read books you would never normally consider. Leave the normal group of friends for one night and explore a venue you've never seen before.
The key is to challenge, and hopefully change, the inputs that reinforce your world view.

I basically agree with what Lala said. Going for a walk, getting some fresh air, by the sea, by a river, all helps. I personally find the wind great for that. The feel of it, the sound of it in the trees, the smells it brings, all very relaxing for the mind.

I believe it speaks to the core of your problem... there's nothing in your head to stop what comes in from going right out! But then again I've found neuro-interrupters to be effective, the very next time you feel you cannot control yourself, pull your cock out and start jerking off... after a while you'll have forgotten what it was you were doing in the first place.

Here's your answer. Borrowed from a different thread- but it applies to your conundrum. Breaking idols of the mind is a matter of a leap of imagination in the end. Janis Joplin said it well- 'freedom's just another word for nothing left lose.' So consider- you're one of the few here who will understand it.
--On the futility of knowledge Reposted here from Ufer threads since Philosophy has no thread of its own:
The 'what the fuck was that?' question is the operative general question. Three question follow by logical extension and form the impetus for the entire field of speculation.
1. Where do they come from?
2. How did they get here? and-
3. What do they want?
The entirety of the vast body of Ufer literature is devoted- depending on the relative ambition of the author- to answering one or more of those three questions. It's interesting that those very same queries also form the basis of all Philosophical, Metaphysical and Scientific investigation regarding the nature of existence per se.
Drake's Equation and Fermi's paradox are typical of the concomitant blending of the fields. Both beg the largest of questions and demonstrate the futility of scientific method regarding a cohesive theory- the answer to the questions they pose. And why? Because both are based in presuppositions that are themselves unproven. It's the nature of presuppositions to be assumptions derived from anecdotal data. That's actually the contradiction that lies at the heart of all Ontological hypothesis and it necessarily substitutes 'belief' for 'proof' as the foundation of Theory. Such is the nature of human endeavor to provide a proof of any existents beyond the brackets of Logic and is the reason that rationalists insist that logic does not apply to the 'real world' except by the (tenuous) extrapolation of analogy.
So this is the Epistemological dilemma in a nutshell: Every speculation concerning existence is ultimately founded in nothing more 'proven' than a leap of faith. Why should the study of Ufology escape conformity to this universal conundrum?
Does all of this mean that, despite the contradictions and the futility, that the questions ought not be even asked in the first place? Certainly there are those who would say precisely that- that adherence to rational skepticism precludes flights of imaginative speculation. I'm not among them for one simple reason- a simple choice, really- a choice to be curious about the mind of God.

Then the liberated Old Ones would teach them new ways to shout and kill and revel and enjoy themselves, and all the earth would flame with a holocaust of ecstasy and freedom.

Yeah meditation is great if you are trying to talk some new-age slut into letting you finger her with your cock. But if you really want to blow those mental blocks away all you have to do is paint them gold.
Get a bag, get some gold spray paint, (some people use silver but i like gold, it is a class thing) spray the paint into the bag and then use the bag like an oxygen tank.

Oh dont get all mad because you were that new-age girl that got tricked and knocked up in the back of an abandoned volkswagon behind the local dive bar.
Hahahahaa... that's always the way, isn't it.
I live in NY and we had a tornado last night. First time in my memory that that happened. Half the trees in a ten block radius are gone now. Power lines all over the place. I can't even move my car as there is a live on laying across the hood, right now.
No meditation for me, last night.

I saw that on the news. Amazing first SoCal and now NY. I am telling you right now.. that shit is not global warming. It may have something to do with the disturbances in the earths magnetic fields which may be natural or it could be them fucking around with HAARP. The magnometer readings for the Alaskan HAARP array had a huge spike just before Katrina hit full force and moved inland. they have since changed that data.. it now shows different if you try to pull up the data. I saw it when it happened though. I know the truth.

Could be. I do agree for sure, it is a huge weather anomaly, and whole regions of the planet have been seeing them over the last couple of years. Whether it's a natural cycle of some sort or some sort of tampering with things, I don't know.
It lasted all of 10 minutes maybe, and when my sister and I looked at the window afterwards, it was like a war zone.

The whole thing was like that - very surreal. I was at my sister's place, her cat started FREAKING out and didn't want to be touched, it started to rain fairly hard for maybe a minute, then a huge lightning bolt with a monstrous crack of thunder simultaneously, blackness rolled over and hail and rain fell down as hard as I've ever heard. We couldn't see an inch out the window. 10 minutes later, maybe, it passed by. We looked at and saw the huge beautiful will tree in the front of my sister's apartment building's front lawn down. It took 5 minutes before I even looked anywhere else and noticed that trees were down everywhere, cars crushed, wires down... a couple of people died. I heard it was even worse in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Some blocks were bad, others disastrous, others completely untouched. The traffic afterwards was absolutely horrendous. People told me they had been driving 2 and 1/2 hours for what should be a 15 minute drive.

I've been meditating for about four years now. Different books say different things. Many say that you must meditate in the same place at the same time every day, but there are few books which I found more inclusive to a wider range of experience say that you can meditate anytime, anywhere.
However, I must tell you that the secrets meditation unlocks may be revealed in horrifying ways.
It is necessary I guess, at some point, to confront your demons literally face to face. Otherwise, you might not recognize them as such when they come creeping in to feed off you. Not evryone advances far enough to see the creaures that inhabit their innards, and many get lost in new age imaginary bullshit land.
There is another thing about meditation which probably doesn't confront everyone either... and that is a vision of sorrow. A vision of the essence of things stripped of all form, all being... a death, really. Meditation is the practice of death. When you die, you mourn. This is not easy, but if you do what I haven't truly done until recently.... if you put yourself in new situations, if you make a concentrated effort to overcome yor fears of leaving your old self behind, and shaping yourself up to be what you truly wish to be.... I think you may get through the darkness a lot easier than I.
We burn together.

Animals are great warning systems for disaster. they sense it when its coming.
maybe they feel the change in the atmosphere the way I can smell rain coming. idk.
Isn't funny that the times when people should stay OFF the roads to keep it clear for emergency vehichles and such everyone has to get out and drive so they can see the devastation first hand. Its like.. do you really think that 5pm swim class at the y is still happening? sit your ass back down and let the fireman do their job. lol

Actually. if you put the muzzle of the gun against your adams apple right at the base of your jaw (aimed upwards of course), you can avoid the bitter taste of cold steel and the natural reflex to suck on something that's been stuck in your mouth.
