Hey guys, kind of a nerdy question... but who knows...

I'm looking for remote host Calender Sharing/calendar server.

My host runs MySQL... there's an awesome solution out there for a more obscure SQL format, but I can't exactly force a host to change database software :)

I'd prefer the output to be in DavCAL format... but I guess if I have to, i can go iCalender (shudder).

What I'm trying to do is create an enviroment where any number of people can add an event via their smartphone, netbook, laptop on the desktop calender, and have it upload to a remote host, and download onto everyone else in the group's machines...

DavCAL or iCalender standards would ensure portability between platforms. etc...

I'd really like to not have to default to a web-interface... that would be lame...

I know google calendar is out there... and I konw many people would use this solution.. however, not only do I not like google... but they now require a cell phone number to create new accounts apparently...

Fuck that... google doesn't need my cell phone number.

any ideas?

Telephone trees are more personal, more fun, less nerdy, dunno about the carbon emissions component.

Tried any corporate comms sites, Pack? They might have some info or clues about solutions they offer clients.

Yah, I've been looking around...

There are a few collaboration suites I can use... but those are way more in depth and 'heavier' than I need...

I suppose worst case scenario I could upload an overpowered program and just use the one module...

I was hoping to opt for lightweight... performance etc...

Does google verify the cell phone number? if not, give a bogus number...

Any reason why Bynari is a no go?

Yah actually... they want to send you a text message for verification... or they can get you over regular phone by voice validation lol

They're just getting downright retarded lol

Anyway... Bynari isn't a free program...

I think I might have found a solution.. .just testing it across different platforms right now... makes sure it works with all equipment

Just solved it anyway...

Using an online calDAV server (Zimbra)

Sunbird on computers...

Smartphones already have built in CalDAV support...

Turned on Sunbird caching, and viola...

LOL essentially what I did was make it so that out of a group of people... if one person adds something to their calender, its instantly available on everyone else's calender.

calDAV is a file format... and its the current standard for calender type files...

so... when person A puts something on their calender... its pushed up to a main server... where its then pushed out to the rest of the group...

Mozilla Sunbird is just the calender client program I used :)

It sounds more complicated than it is really lol

That makes it understandable to me, normal explanations and stuff.

I kinda figured it wasnt anything hard, it just looked it.

So is that kind of like twitter then, everyone knows what you are doing that day?

If I put a note on the calendar saying Doctor's Appt. July 30, annual pap, everyone would know what I was up to that day?

Only people in your workgroup would know.

and if you set the permissions to 'public'.

Then everyone in your workgroup would find out.

But its not really like twitter lol It's calendar sharing.

Large business, Small businesses, and families do it...
