Since there have been quite a few folks who have complained about how crappy the search engine on AmKon is, I wanted to test out startpage as an alternative.
What is startpage? (http://www.startpage.com/eng/aboutstartpage/)
I thought startpage would be a great alternative as opposed to say, google, considering they don't give a fuck about privacy, and store search results.
Startpage does NOT record your IP address!

For those uber paranoid AmKonites, there is a built-in proxy so you can view certain websites without them picking up your ip.
Another great feature about this current search bar, is that it will allow you to search just this website, or the internet as a whole.
Do you like it, hate it? Would you like us to remove it, or test it out for a while?

We probably should have notified y'all before installing it, I've been harassing pack for a while about it, and he just did it now. Sorry about that :D.

Will it search all Amkon threads for particular word strings, like a functional search would?

Yeah it doesn't seem to like amkon green or yellow at the moment. The button on the left says "web", and the right says, "this site."

Question/suggestion.
Can you fix the search bar to open in a new tab or window?
I just did a search using "this site" option and it took me away from amkon instead of opening in a new tab.

It will open up any search results you click in a new tab.
It seems simple enough to push the back button from Start Page when you want to return to the original Amkon page.

There is a button on the top of the search page you can click that will take you back to amkon.

doesnt really bother me that its at the top of the page, but whatever everyone else prefers wouyld be fine with me.

How about adding a style attr to the input text box to give it a dark background color for the green theme. The white against black is a killer.
it's kind of annoying but i've learned to ignore it now.

What about at the bottom on the left hand side right across from the "forum jump" thingy? Then it wouldn't seem out of place, would kind of balance it, i think.

I'm not a big fan of it... but I did tell skunk I'd pop it up there...
Told him if all went well, maybe I'd move it in the footer and include some theming elements...
(he's the one who specifically told me to put it up there where it is hahaha)
well as long as it makes MrPoopypanty happy I guess it's worthwhile.

I don't really use it, I was hoping to have a better search for amkon itself, you can take it off or move it to the bottom if people don't like it.
