Ok, so I don't want this shit trolled... I'm trying to ask a serious question here...
I'm the only admin that shows up anymore... so I'm hoping to have some sort of insight.
Why has amkon taken this road for such an extended period of time?
Just thoughts... no naming of names... no pointing fingers... its obviously a community problem, not an individual...
My personal thoughts drift towards the "live topic"...
I think that having live topic may have made this place seem more like a chat room than anything else...
not that it wasn't always kind of a chat forum...
anyway... Here's to the futility of hoping people constructively weigh in...

I don't think live topic has anything to do it. I think it's basically a serious lack of understanding on the part of several members. If they talk shit, they should expect a karmic backlash. If they can't handle that, then they should hold their tongue, or get over the butthurt the consequences cause.

hide chatter threads from general public and new members
all silly stuff goes in chatter
new members must request access to chatter. After being a regular member for a while someone could advise them of its existance and let them choose to have access or not

I think people are also failing to keep in mind that certain members have the caption, "Known sock or troll" underneath their names. That should indicate to somebody that there's really no point in dealing with them.

im here everyday, ok so after 2 years i gave up the admin posi but i still have access to the ACP so if shit ever hits the fan its not really just one admin who can help out. but the answer is what we want to achieve is a forum that doesn't need admins.
the answers simple and hasnt changed since i first approached you to join the admin team.
the ideal is a forum that moderates itself apart from someone who is needed to take care of coding shit. :D hahahaha.
seriously its all an experiment in community building without rules, and mostly it's been pretty successful.
no harm....no foul.

Why did it turn into a chat site? Well, I haven't been here very long but this is what I think.
The people here have heard most of the conspiracies. They either believe in or disbelieve in them. But, either way, most of them have been done to death. We've all talked about this stuff for so long with nothing changing in the real world, or coming up with no feasible way to change things, that it seems to me many feel "what's the point?"
AND, what is the point? I've read here, and other places, that ATS is dying and that many other forums are complete bunk. So, what are you going to do, or better yet, what are we going to do to move things along? If everything has been discussed except the current events, what's the point. I think people here have enough friends on here that they like coming back. They like having a laugh. I haven't posted much hard research, but I've posted tons of threads and articles since I've been here. Many of them go by the wayside. People, mostly, would rather argue the other shit - with each other, about each other, troll each other, etc. I've seen it from most people. A lot of the time, it's actually fun.
So, perhaps, it's time to rethink what this site is. Is it purely a conspiracy site? I busted Lex's chops the other day, joking around that whatever I post, he will shoot down. Fact of the matter is, I think to a certain degree he's right. The conspiracies aren't as big as a lot of "conspiracy theorists" think they are. They're usually about money and power and not in some huge way. It's in a much smaller, much more human, shitty way.
Anyway, perhaps, the site needs to broaden in a sense. It already is on it's own, we just don't call it anything other than a conspiracy site. Perhaps, there should be a forum that is tightly controlled by the person who is the op and the rest is the free for all that is amkon. I don't care what anybody says, I've thought about quitting 2-3 times already but, this place is FAR MORE FUN that the other sites. And, what's wrong with that?
Anyway, just my two cents.

Okay, so I was hanging with this 40 year old ex-con named Chuck who was teaching me to play chess. He robbed banks and wound spending some time at the federal prison in Atlanta. (You only have to get caught once, that's what he used to say) He was living in a halfway house and hung out in my neighborhood, and I saw him playing chess with one of his halfway house friends, so I asked him to teach me.
Cog thought, me being so cute and 18, that I shouldn't be hanging with a 40 year old ex-con, so I was like "Fine, are you going to teach me to play chess". And he was like, "Sure."
Long story short, I still do not know how to play chess, but I met Cog, so it's all good right?
That's one version. There's lots of others.

Oh one topic, the problem is not live update. That is actully a nice feature that does not always work for me... I blame windows.. Anyways the problem is US. the people here. We get trolled by the worst constantly... we sink to that level. The fix? A troll forum.

That's true. He did say that. And then I gave Cog a naked picture of me from my boyfriend's wallet cuz I thought Cog was the coolest (yeah, this was a complicated time for me), but he was kinda weird about me for like a year.
And anyway, Chuck was cool. Besides being an ex-con, he had a MG that he re-built, and a really cool fish tank, and he robbed banks with an egg timer in his pocket. That was his super-big bank robbing secret, an egg timer. 3 minutes in and out, with as much money as you could get. Come on, that was cool. Sure, he was probably a perve, but he was interesting to be around.

There is more greatness and motherlode and unpolished little gems to be found in Amkon than in all other "conspiracy" and "alternative" and "chat" sites combined.
And a considerable quantum of FeS2 to match.
im not really sure why anyone is disgruntled about two things.
1. moderation, (perceived or otherwise).
2. the content.
first off when amkon began it was only a chat room with about a dozen of our favorite threads that were either CT or alternative in nature. its always been more of a community chat room except the discussions were often topics that you wouldnt normally chat about with folk in RL.
its never been a full blown CT forum like ats or glp or stfu or anywhere else for that matter, we never wanted it to be like them.
second, the whole point of the past couple of years was for the forum to reach a point in its existence that there would be no need whatsoever for moderators or admins to become involved in anything other than site maintenance and or removing gore or pron that some drive by troll might post.
thats it.
no bannings, no moving people into time outs, no forcing people to post content that the admins want or that other members want, no steering discussion.
if you dont like what someone says then dont read their posts or threads. if you dont like that aamkon isnt serious enough then post your serious shit at ats (lol). if you think amkon is too serious then post your shit at davidicke forums (hehe).
get over it, it is what it is, i love it just the way it is.
i can come here and talk about any damn thing i like, i can talk with whoever i like, i dont have to mind my manners, i dont have to pretend to like someone else or what they are saying, i can be an asshole or a nice guy.
