I'm keeping my ear fixed to the tube in the background, and just happened to see some poor soul (break-away-General?) get shot in the head (well..rather the after-affects) and just sat there glued to my seat....watching.....
:(
(noticed I need to change the word 'ruel' to 'rule' in my title...sorry bout that)

For some reason, I think he has taken up temporary residence in Hong Kong? I'd swear I read something to that effect.

My best friend arrived in Bangkok, via a one way ticket, about 3 days ago.
His flights went something like DIA->LAX->somewhere in China->Bangkok
He's been renting a room in various guest houses on Khao San Road, for aprox $3-$6 a night, but says plumbing is usually sup-par and has already reported some bed-bug encounters.
He emailed me once to say he had arrived and was ok (minus the bed bugs). He says "The local food is great, cheap, and unusual."

Are you able to get a hold of your friend and ask what's going on in the streets? Blow by blow with this latest incident?

He's only been there a couple days, and does not seem to be reachable by any traditional method. I am still waiting on a email response to what I wrote to him yesterday.

They show the aftermath on CNN, just horrible. It was just choking. I saw a twelve year old boy get shot one time and the reaction of his mother still rings in my ears.

It's more than just fucking disgusting.
When I say that we are all de-sensitized to one degree or another...it's true.
*sigh*
Only when it hits close to home will people pay attention. Lord knows that I wouldn't wish that to be the case over here in North America. But when we see increments of it on a microcosm in our own little spectrum of life here, I often wonder just how bad it WILL escalate?

It would have to be large scale suppression for people to react.

It would have to be large scale suppression for people to react.
But....but....'isn't it'? *narrowing eyes and snarling in a contemplative and mischievious look*
When I say it this way, it's not so much inciting 'mass insurrection', as opposed to the overlaying 'shells of discordment' that have been prevelent since our birth; that with which we need to discard/slough off since the moment when we were conceived/born/live/die. Seemingly never-ending fucking cycle.
It starts 'somewhere/somehow'. From there it branches off.

Deadly clashes as police besiege Bangkok protesters (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/8681833.stm) Rachel Harvey, BBC News, Bangkok
Inside their fortified encampment the protesters are digging in and preparing for a siege.
Outside, soldiers are battling to control the main roads as groups of angry demonstrators do everything in their power to stop their advance.
A bus was set ablaze to block one main road. Elsewhere, protesters have piles of broken concrete, petrol bombs and fireworks at the ready.
Troops have used live rounds, rubber-coated bullets and tear gas to try to disperse them. The British ambassador has urged both sides to step back from the brink and return to the negotiating table.
But there seems little chance of that in the current volatile atmosphere. As night fell the sound of gunfire and explosions filled the air.
