Oblivion

this was actually my first attempt at a PSSC.
I had trouble getting it started, so once i got writing i just let it flow off the fingers naturally with very little thought or editing.
Its not that great (IMHO) and was originally written like im talking to the reader, in the end it was more like a letter so i changed the start + beginning.
there was almost no editing whatsoever, i just let the story take me wherever it wanted.
it is what it is i guess.
--------------------------------------------
Dear Dad, i am writing to tell you im doing fine in my new home.
As you know, I was quite young when a lot of us were packed into box's, and sent on a long noisy, bumpy journey to somewhere else. But i remember arriving at this place and they put us indoors, where we couldnt enjoy much sun.
They also gave us the most terrible tasting water ive ever had. Some of the family got sick due to the poor conditions.
Oh! and the human children. they always poke things at my leaves, just to see them close. I had even seen some get taken by children as a pet plant. such a terrible life of constant trap torture, bad water and light, leading to eventual death due to neglect.
if you reply, please send it addressed to Mr Chomp. thats my new name. im still Dionaea Muscipula, born and bred, eh dad?
(edit note: known commonly as the venus fly trap. (VFT)
One day, a man come in and took a couple of us home. He gave us fresh soil, bigger pots, but the water, oh wow, he gets us the best stuff. its so refreshing and pure.
We were growing fine, when he put us in the sun and went out for the day. I dont think he realised it was going to be a heat wave that day, and we got terrible sunburn.
he darn near killed us all with kindness !!
we spent a week in a coma, most of our leaves turned black, and just when i started to feel a little better and grow again, he decides to rip us out the ground again and put in even better sphagnum moss and a really big pot.
We had a lot of new people move in around us too. a good mix of carnivorous plant company.
To our left and right we now have one red, and one white pitcher plant. i think he called them Sarah Senior's??
(editor note, Sarracenia, the north american pitcher plant)
they get the most bugs because theyre the tallest, and the bugs get trapped in a pitfall. all dead bugs, piling up ontop each other.
We also had some distant relatives move in. one of them is japanese and they moved in down the end of the trough. He's a VFT aswell and his name is Akai Ryu, but he says to call him "the red dragon" because he's all red.
I think Akai's family were such a lovely red, they made the rest of us look greener with envy !
But this also had its downfall, attracting the most attention by our new owner who poked dead bugs into his trap, making him sick.
But our owner quickly learnt we like the thrill of the fight.
Ive really learnt how to catch flies well, you'd be so proud.
feeling them on my leaf, waiting, waiting. then i snap shut at lightning speed and trap that bug. now the bug panics, starts to struggle, and thats the best part. he keeps tripping over my trigger hairs, forcing me to wrap tighter and tigher around him until he cant move. aahaha, its so much fun and i love the taste of their soft gooey innards.
the more those bugs wriggle, the harder i squeeze... until theyre virtually vacuum sealed into my leaf like a delicious bug soup.
Theres also a few other of my distant VFT relatives in the neighbourhood, including the "saw tooth" family. i think they might be hillbillys, because Ugghhh, their teeth are just naasty though!!!
we quickly realised however, that every one of us would be overshadowed by the newest arrival. one lonely "Low Giant" VFT had quickly grown the most massive traps in the whole neighbourhood.
Even akai started to feel out done by this guy. It was like hulk hogan Vs fabio. and it pissed akai off a lot! as dormany arrived during winter even akai had started turning green with envy.
And last but not least, theres "Sticky Mickey", hes a Drosera Capensis Red, from the Cape sundew family. he also has a small, round, flat relative nearby, thats called spatulata.
theyre the most annoying family because theyre growing bigger, taking more space, and their leaves as so sticky.
i dont know about you, but i dont like children with sticky fingers touching me or my family, but sticky mickey just lays his real long, dew covered leaves over everyone without any respect. and he grows too fast to battle him, and the flies get stuck on him and he curls up around it, holding it tight in his long tentacle like leaf.. he really is like an octopus that guy!
he even caused me to bite down on his leaf once.. yuuk ! if its conflict he wants, he's gonna get it if he keeps pissing off the low giant's mutant size traps though.
Sadly, i lost Mrs Chomp due to sickness a few weeks ago. It was another clear cut case of being killed with kindness, the chomp family was recovering quite well and growing strong beautiful traps again but i think she got too much water and like humans, we dont like being cold and dripping wet during winter either.
I miss her dearly, but at least the family's here get treated pretty good and our new owner is learning more about us all the time. But i still miss those ideal conditions we grew up in back at the nursery with you and mum.
some of the people here were so happy theyve had more children. Red Sarah' has grown so well she managed to split off into three seperate plants. and some of us sent up flower stalks to drop seed but he cut them down, he's learnt that we sometimes die when we flower and drop seed.
Anyways, enough rambling. please write back soon.
Address it to "blivs mini peat bog + Carnivorous plant melting pot."
Love, Mr chomp + kids.
