The truth is that no-one has to go to war. All anyone has to do is refuse the orders of the warmongers; neither their children nor anyone else can be forced to participate in gratuitous mayhem. It's unfortunate that so many feel conjoined to follow the orders of the ruling class.

I think he means war is only justified if you will send your son.

We have all volunteer troops. These kids are signing up for the bloodbath. methinks too many violent video games may be contributing a bit...

Methinks a shitty economy contributes to it. A room, food, healthcare, promise of education...

My brother is in the desert now for his fifth tour, to support his family. There are no jobs stateside that will pay his mortgage.

He did two tours in the Army. This will be his third as a contractor. He got to stay home for a little over a year when he contracted stateside. But when he got laid off, there was nothing to be had, so now he's on his way back over there.

No war might mean money spent here that could create jobs. Politicians and generals could care less about the american citizen.

The fact that the majority of the american populace is not outraged over this continued war stance and action speaks loudly of something wrong in the country. (apathy? and it is not an iPhone)

I wish some one could point out the benefits so I can get on the bandwagon.

Here I'll fix it...

In the interest of national security, all iPhone use is now banned until the war, police action or whatever the troops are doing in the mideast is over.

War.
Is there a worse word? No.

Yes. I am a Vet trained to do what I need to do. Army Ranger. Give me orders and I follow them.

That being said, I hate this conflict in the Middle East. Yes I said conflict. It's not a war. We won the 'war'. Saddam was defeated in every single way. Now we we are having brave men and women dying for a lost cause.

your choice.

Not really. I chose to go to war too, but I didn't get picked up because of my tarnished military record.

It would make me happy if people would chose to get along. But the instigators don't want that. Which frightens people who are too afraid to fight back and chose instead to fund other people to fight on their behalf. Then there are the brave ones who didn't start the fight and won't back down when the fight is brought to them.

It would really make me happy if people would try harder to get along.

Methinks your statement is correct and also compounded with the indoctrination principles of national pride and serving one's country and with the common theme with so many (especially the young), "what the hell am I going to do with my life?"

Apathy? Yes. But, I think, for most it's a learnt apathy. My vote means nothing, my voice means nothing, my ideas.... etc, etc. UNLESS, they can make me, or someone "important", some money.

If we don't go to war then America will run out of people to exploit. Can't have that happen.

Sometimes I think the US economy is deliberately kept bubbling under, with a large under-class, in order to ensure a constant supply of fresh, angry young men with few real choices. No offence to yr brother Jack, it just seems like it's done on purpose.

As hp said, think of the jobs that could be created with the Trillion plus dollars spent on the war. Infrastructure, roads, bridges, solar panel plants, local wind farm initiatives, small business loans, huge corporations. When you guys get rid of these parrasites you will really have a kick-ass country, but it'll take a while...

I think you are totally correct, and so does my brother. I just had a conversation with him last night touching on this.

But basically he said, "I still have to pay my mortgage. Blame our parents for fucking everything up I guess. Ahhh, life in the 21st century."
