I have a project that many here would probably be interested in at least watching...
But doing it in public would make Amkon a big target of the type I'm not prepared to deal with (hackers and virus makers)...
Guess the mob only wants sanitized research that is acceptable for public consumption.
fuck it.
I agree. The biggest opponents (I could be mistaken) of it are now gone. What does that state...

Why don't you say it in a more straightforward way instead of roundabout hint hint?
"I want to partially reinstate the secret forum to showcase a sensitive project I'm working on"

I'm using the other secret forum... at this point... (the old, defunct one that hasn't been posted in in months hahaha)
I think there are only 2 members here with access anymore...

Its a live virus that seems to be a relatively unknown at this point in time.
I'm dissecting it in a controlled environment.
social groups aren't as 'secure' as you'd think... there have been many exploits for Vb using the social groups function...
Meh, I can still do what I need to do... just a shame you guys are missing out on seeing what makes a virus 'tick'.
Digital dissection FTW.

Sounds pretty interesting I'd like to see that. Any idea what country it's from? What country has the best virus writers? I heard it was Bulgaria in the 90s.

wow. All I know about Viruses I read from Approaching Zero, so I dnt know much. I remember reading about The Dark Avenger's Mutating Engine. A virus that changes code so it can't be detected. I wonder if you could write an ethical virus?
pack3tg0st
04-14-2010, 01:37 PM
wI wonder if you could write an ethical virus?
Kind of
i've got an 'ethical virus' on one of my computers...
What it does is gradually expand and overwrite areas of the HD that are not in use... causing me to have a 200gb file on my HD... (once the file excedes 200 gb, it behaves like a stack and drops the first few gb off the front, so it can add more to the back)
I designed it so that even if someone were to grab my HD, they wouldn't be able to 'undelete' my files... as they've been written over a bajillion times...
But, this virus is only ethical if I don't put it on someone else's machine.
its only considered a 'virus' in how it functions... however, since I WANT it there, its just another process running in the background on my file server...

I prefer to think of myself as "Empress". Do you think that's a bit overboard?
Raptor Jesus

Sounds cool. I heard some companies could retrieve data even after tons of overwrites. I'm guessing your virus repeats the process hundreds of times.

I was think of a virus that spread some sort of information or message, but was benign and didn't cause any system damage at all. You could still get prosecuted for that though...

there have been a few designed specifically for that... usually to spread a message about internet security or something...
but yah, You'd still end up in a "federal pound-me-in-the-ass prison"

Removing the secret forum was dumb
Ya think?
Sarcasm aside, I had mo qualm with having a Spesh forum. It was intended for a purpose, members research. Never understood why BK found it had outlived it's purpose for in your case Pack, it obviously has not.
But petty rivalry and douchebaggery laced with a big ass dose of drama made it that it was bound that someone blabbed about it. Loose lips equal sinking ship.
If you peeps ever get one starting again, make sure whom you invite in is trustworthy and most of all, doesn't have an overblown ego
Best of luck in your research Pack.

Don't worry, BE is not going to be let in no matter what happens.
He can go hang himself in a closet for all I care.
Is there any truth to the rumor, yet to surface, that a secret forum has been created for the discussion of BE...:):):)

Na, even if he hangs himself in his closet, he will eventually show up as a latent skin disease. He always comes back.
Just to say, next time, get some people who can keep their mouth shut.
That message was written 1 hour later after an excruciating phonecall from my mother from Montreal asking for remote computer help... AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Thats because I was there almost from the beginning. I knew what the original purpose of it was. And when that purpose was changed with out informing the council members themselves or the general membership I only thought it ethical to inform everyone about the changes since the admin their did not feel inclined to keep their members in the loop.
Theeeeeen shtf...
Anyways....
Secret forum. Open it or not. I'm dead certain you could post about it else where too... or just keep it in that one place... Hell only you two computer folks would prolly know what the discussion was about right..Although since it is computer related I would suggest involving HP since he would know what yall would be talking about. If HP isn't already that other member that is...
I know one fellow outed himself in the great debate once our shit started to implode...but i'll not out hi again. Others can do their own leg work through that mess if they want to know that bad.
Not worries anarch, I already got through most of it.

*Anarchs's* "The SHTF council has dissolved" is one of the most drama-filled and emotional threads on the internet. It is so beautiful. Especially when Pack3tg0st enters stage left at the end of Act II, saying "This thread needs more Cannon."
The rest of thread plays out to Pachebells cannon. I nearly cried when I read it.
*
In contrast, Cogburn's "I am the sum of all your fears thread" is an 18 page leviathan of fail and chest-beating. I read through every page of that pomp and bollocks and damn near puked...
EDIT: I'm not slagging the guy off behind his back. Anyone's welcome to link this...

Oh yes, the counsel LOL
I remember the original purpose of it all, it was meant to keep the mods/supermods in check so they wouldn't abuse their power and position on SHTF. A great and commendable idea on paper but was quickly scrapped by the same people whom the counsel was picked and formed to keep in check. In the end, being a council member only meant to have access to a hidden forum and have your user name outlines a different color, a far cry from it's original purpose. It was never meant to be a training ground for future moderators which in the end, it had become.
This is what Anarch beef was with, for he remembered as I did what the council was for and why it was formed, to keep them mods/supermods in check oh and reverse unruly bans if the council deemed that a person was banned without a good reason.
Meh, all in the past now.
Now I have en exe that get sent down...

YOu just got me thinking of old times and all the epic drama that ensued and all the spin off threads ,spin off forum, the antagonists the protagonists..the folks that could not see what I saw but would see it later and in turn get bans of their own.
