Actually as a variation on your theme - how about a quick contest of a week to find the best conversation between an Amkon member and the Turing machine-thing at www.cleverbot.com ?

I've had a couple of bizarre conversations - totally lucid, but the program is actually borderline sociopathic/pedophilic. Very naughty. I posted a couple on another website but would try again.

That's just an idea for something that is entertaining (the idea is to get the program to 'think' in a way that brings about a conversational flow about real and metaphysical things) and quick.



I have some other ideas for later.

Maybe a competition that revolves around terrorism? Either political or social...

Ummm what other ideas....OH! Maybe a story that includes pics! Write whatever you want so long as the story includes at least 2 pictures....Then again their is a picture upload limit of three I think... meh we could still do a story with pics.

Message in a bottle from the past. We use the short message to work out where the character is. Good for lost Sumarians!

Havent a clue really. Ive not worked it through but I did suggest an Amkon Internet radio. I would suggest people could have their own hour live to play/talk about what they want.

The key would be keeping it short and snappy IMO. Not an hour to talk about what you like, more like 5 minutes.

You can have Internet Radio running whilst you are doing other things like a word doc.

chorltons correct, we have considered doing a radio show numerous times over the past couple of years but havent either had the tech knowhow or the interest from members to get it started.

ive always been willing to put together a 1/2 hour segment a week, just need some additional support from the rest of the members. it would be cool if say at least 6 of us were able to commit to a 1/2 hour segment each per week.

Just record it, encode it to mp3, upload it to youtube, start a thread and we'll all listen... That's how I would start. The other way to do it is spend ages organising the damn thing and it'll all fall apart cos we can't stretch to the schedule. With the different time zones hardly any of us would listen live anyway.

Chorlton is correct, Triangle, bandwidth IS an issue, on the User End. A lot of folks run at 3MPS or less ("dial up" type speeds) Wireless routers in the house have a nasty habit of Not delivering at their full potential. Same for cells and wireless portable devices.

as you mentioned, Delivery isn't really a problem anymore... Reception, however, still is...

Unless you want to limit your market to only those people with high end connections and the hardware capable of rendering the audio / visual components you're recommending.

From where I sit, layer the thing with as many bells and whistles as you want... It's still SHIT if the content sucks. If the content rocks, then bells and whistles are moot.

Since I'm loosely related to the industry, that all sounds like WORK to me... time consuming Work. Time consuming professional and technical labor that deserves compensation.

but if someone was able to deal with those issues i think an amkon style radio show would be a fucking hoot, and thats all it would be imo. if it managed to make a few dollars that could help pay the running costs it would serve a purpose, i dont see it ever being a "money spinner". that would take way to much time and finance for most of us id imagine.

I am not a good writer so I would never participate in these contests, but I thoroughly enjoy the stories of the usual writers here.

I was thinking it would be interesting to see where a story goes if someone else were to finish it.

For example... someone writes the first chapter (so many words or less) and then a second writer does the second chapter etc.

You could base the order for chapters based on the votes of the last competition.

Voters could select the chapter they liked best.

Just a thought, I have been waiting for your next ideas and since no one had any thought I'd give you a poke :D
