I used the ignore as a means to send a message, hence that was a form of "speech". I've since thought about it, and I am not certain that I did the right thing.

I could easily have just RL ignored him. The ignore button was a crutch for not having to deal with something that made me extremely uncomfortable. I think that Pack is right on that communities have a right to expel members, but I am not sure if this is how it would be done "in the wild."

I agree, but...you are making the choice for other people that they don't want to listen when you start a thread and have someone on ignore.

This means, per my other example, that if you started a thread on white hat hacking and had Pack on ignore that any valuable contributions he may have had that I could have learned from would be excluded.

It's not a question of censorship, because Pack could start his own thread. it's more an issue of the way the ignore feature works. If you want to ignore someone...great. But when you use "ignore" you are in a sense forcing other people to agree with you...at least on your own threads.

Now, is this right or wrong? I don't know. I haven't seen it play out enough to know if its right, wrong, productive, or destructive.

or manually entering them in via the User CP
