Behind this wall,
my heart waits patiently
for the hammer
that shall break these bonds
and set it free.
My life has for several years
been a theatre of calamity.
I have been a mark
for the vigilance of tyranny,
and I could not escape.
Upon such a stage has
played out the misfortunes
of but one humble existence.
Perhaps not so entertaining,
save if the stage lights
shine on you.
My fairest prospects
have been blasted.
My enemy has shown himself
inaccessible to entreaties,
and untired in persecution.
I have ceased to struggle
against what I know
I cannot conquer.
There is no possibility
of parole or reprieve,
for the warden remains hidden
and beyond appeal.
Yet I cannot admit defeat
to foes who have no face.
I cannot surrender to enemies
who have no name.
So here I sit
