View Full Version : Ignore Feature New and Improved

skunk
02-10-2010, 02:37 PM
For those of you who wish to ignore users, they will now truly be ignored.

You will not see their posts at all. You will not have an option to "view this post".

If you still wish to read their posts, you will have to click on their username and view them in their profile.

You can still pm ignored users though.

Hazelnut

What's the fun in that? I don't appoint anyone to the ignore feature. That would be ignorant. Half the fun is laughing at other people's comments. And even the most intolerable say something worthwhile eventually.

skunk
02-10-2010, 02:41 PM
Fun? I don't think there's supposed to be anything fun about putting someone on ignore. Its a last resort.

No one is forcing you to use it, this is for those who want to ignore people.

Freaking Bliss. Now I dont even have to see that little bit saying I'm ignoreing a fucker.

I like it!

I use the ignore function off and on. Currently I am helping improve the quality of the site via the ignore button.

And even the most intolerable say something worthwhile eventually.

This may be true but if that one thing has already been said and that was their one and only jewel it may not be worth it to wait for another jewel that aint coming.

Die Fledermaus doubts the efficacy of this regime of using the ignore function to solve your current predicimament vis-a-vis the downward spiral of your Amerikan Konspiracy forum. Those who would respond to troll-bait would likely not use it to continue responding to and feeding that emotional need.

First of all, thanks for taking the time to try to make this board better by implementing and trying new coding.

*shakes head* As to why people start a fuzz fest on a feature that is meant to ignore, more efficient than ever. Ignore is Ignore. No wonder why the hubby was at my PC station looking at posts of a user he put on ignore... curiosity killed the cat.

Free speech is by definition disturbing and subversive. But ignorance is at least safe. Do not disturb.

Your freedom of speech (nor anyone else's for that matter) does not override anyone else's freedom to view what they choose.

No one is obligated to read anything you or anyone else writes, or even listen to what they have to say.

I suggest you read up on some exceptions to free speech (http://www.csulb.edu/~jvancamp/freedom1.html#C).

(1) Defamation: Defamation consists of a publication of a statement of alleged fact which is false and which harms the reputation of another person.(1) Our right to freedom of expression is restricted when our expressions (whether a spoken slander or written libel) cause harm to the reputation of another person. The courts recognize that words can hurt us, for example, by harming our ability to earn a living (economic harm).

(2) Causing panic: The classic example of speech which is not protected by the First Amendment, because it causes panic, is falsely shouting "fire" in a crowded theater.

(3) Fighting words: In the famous case of Chaplinsky v. New Hampshire, the U.S. Supreme Court held that the First Amendment does not protect "fighting words -- those which by their very utterance inflict injury or tend to incite an immediate breach of the peace."

etc.

Well there's one of the few things you've said that I can agree with.

We don't have administrative babysitters to watch out for "bad people" that might disturb our little corner of the universe. Quite the contrary, it exists to be disturbed.

This is the kind of shit I don't like. You're just like eye. You won't like what somebody posts and get so fed up with it that you yourself will wind up trolling that very poster and in turn, continue getting trolled. Eventually you will both flame eachother till the point where one of you eventually bows down. And most of the time it's people like you.

Look man, the phrase "Don't feed the trolls" should really be "Don't take the trolls serious."

Let's look at eye again. Here's a clown who obviously doesn't like how I conduct myself here, and he let that be known not long after I had joined, and several times afterward. He also accused me of being a troll. For awhile I'd go back and forth with him and then eventually I just brushed him off.

The more I'd continue to brush him off, the more he'd troll. He'd transform into a racist for a day and call me nigger as apart of his trolling antics, beg me for my email etc..

Then a mere two days ago I pwned the faggot so hard that he emailed me bitching about it. Shit like that you can't take serious. Why? Because the person who accused ME of being a troll wound up doing the most trolling and getting their fake ass tough guy facade that trolls put up, completely destroyed. You tell me what it means?

You have the freedom to yell fire in a crowded theater, but don't expect there not to be consequences.

You also have the freedom to say what you like here, but don't expect people to listen to/read what you have to say.

Its a given that the stupider the comment the more attention it generates. One must never be serious, make sweeping statements, share beliefs, forward hypotheses, or ask questions around here. These are the things that will cause you to become a target for the all-knowing, core group of "researchers" who have culminated their relationships through mindless skype convo's and/or past shared experiences with other forums.

I've been informed that there are groups of friends here who back each other up regardless of content posted.

The more clever and disgusting you can be, the more popular you become. Until such time when the "core group" feels its place at the head of the line slipping backward. Then free-for-all's reign. Every member congregates at the foot of the ongoing shitfest, hoping to see their target decimated verbally and in some instances beyond the boards.

Its a three-ring circus and we're all clowns performing for the audience.

Why on earth would anyone want to ignore that?

I think it is a great feature for someone that feels the need to use it, however, I would never use it myself, curiousity would have me unblocking an ignored person constantly :D

The feature I think is the greatest is "don't show signatures", now that is one that I use. I can never tell the difference between the post and the signature and am constantly reading signatures over and over, think to myself.... I am sure I have seen that before

Short term memory loss I guess.

Looks like Hazel had her Pirandello moment. All is well.

Yes, I had to look it up.

Luigi Pirandello (28 June 1867 – 10 December 1936) was an Italian (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Italy) dramatist (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drama), novelist (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Novelist), and short story writer awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nobel_Prize_in_Literature) in 1934,for his "bold and brilliant renovation of the drama and the stage." Pirandello's works include novels, hundreds of short stories, and c. 40 plays, some of which are written in Sicilian (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sicilian_language). Typical for Pirandello is to show how art or illusion mixes with reality and how people see things in a very different way - words are unreliable and reality is at the same time true and false. Pirandello's tragic farces are often seen as forerunners for theatre of the absurd.

Thank you, I'm flattered. Perhaps I should enter my comments in the short story competition?

it really comes down to someones nature. People do not like admitting they are wrong or different - so they either go with the flow or dig in. flight of fight and flight is always the easiest answer.

:D

ignoramus

1577, Anglo-Fr. legal term, from L. ignoramus "we do not know," first person present indicative of ignorare "not to know" (see ignorant). The legal term was one a grand jury could write on a bill when it considered the prosecution's evidence insufficient. Sense of "ignorant person" came from the title role of George Ruggle's 1615 play satirizing the ignorance of common lawyers.

yes there is a semblance of mob rule and group think evident here just as there is at any forum, or in RL in any community. its a natural instinct for humans to seek safety in numbers.

I don't think it is a "gang" thing, it is like minded people, getting upset that a newcomer is threatening the existing group of people that are comfortable with the status quo.

I found the existing group to be very welcoming when I joined here, but some people storm in making threats or critisizing everyone.

I have never understood that type of person, if you don't like what you see, don't come... simple.

It's not about me liking it BE, the only one I have ever put on ignore was IEF for he was spamming constantly during one time... You might have missed it tho, it was during one of your multiple "Diva" exit and your first mass warrening (piss poor job at that)

It's about recognizing quality when I see it, it is a very nice job for those who are pushed to a limit that they do not wish to see a single word of the one/s they decided to put on ignore.

Seen ignore features on other forums but nothing with the likes of this one.

I've been informed that there are groups of friends here who back each other up regardless of content posted. You have, have you? I don't know if that was a reference to me, but I get accused of this constantly, and usually in a distinctly less passive aggressive manner, so I can't help but ask.

Is it a gang of folks that constantly support each other, or a collection of individuals that have the same way of looking at the world and were all attracted to AmKon?

For all the members on this forum, there is but one that I correspond with any regularity, period. I've talked to a few folks once or twice on Skype. No one here is my friend on Facebook, MySpace, Bebo or Orkut. I've had more than one person send a PM asking for assistance on some research item or another, and I have always attempted to assist them regardless of who it was or the nature of the research.

Anyone that thinks that I, or anyone else on AmKon, shares such ideas so completely that they would back each other no matter what is simply ridiculous nonsense generated by those that need a tinfoil-ectamy pretty desperately.

Forum gangs are for places where you can't speak your mind, or for individuals that can't even when provided the opportunity. In the year that I've been here, I've never know that kind of shit to last more than five minutes before being called out for what it is.

I'm curious, as I'm sure some others are, to know exactly of whom these gangs consist and who surmised their existence. Although I suppose asking you to share is obviously asking too much, or you would have simply included that information in your initial post.
