Yes. We have a wiki...

Its not 100% up to speed as far as the customization that I would like to do, but, what good is aesthetics without content right?

Why Wiki?

Well, several reasons really. The whole idea came when Urbandictionary started turning down submissions we've been sending in. So I figured 'fuck, if they're not going to publish it... maybe we should'.

But, having a wiki brings about a shitload of other benefits too:

A) This wiki runs off a separate database than our Forums. So even in the unlikely event that we have another database error, the wiki should remain untouched. Which obviously is great, as our wiki should contain our 'body of work'. I remember when we were on the brink of discovering that Jimmy Hoffa was the second gunman on the grassy knoll... then the Apeci happened... now the evidence is gone...

The wiki allows us to post our stuff in one, single area... free of the forum clutter...

2)How many times have we told new members that there was a thread about that somewhere? Or that a new member should really read this groundbreaking thread from forever ago...

This puts everything into one, searchable database... again free of clutter... but it also allows us to link to other 'pages' and the likes for related content...

III)All those quick 'searches' we do... where we show how some obscure news source is owned by the devil... or that the owner of a particular company is sucking off some other company? If those results are posted in the wiki... than we only have to do it once...

Think of this as an Amkon knowledge repository... Lots of people lately have been asking what it is we do at amkon... and even though 99% of the time, we're just bullshitting and busy being a chat-forum, the 1% is what people know us for...

With the new wiki, we can put that 1% in a place free of clutter and off topic ramblings... It also gives the people who put a lot of effort into their threads a place to document their conspiracy or 'angles' on conspiracies...

Meh, don't know why I feel the need to 'sell' this to you guys... it'll either be something positive... or something that fades away...

But... there ya have it... our own Wiki.

If this thing takes off, or gets at least a little bit of use, i'll go through and try to integrate it into Vb... but for the time being, it is what it is, and you'll have to register a new username for the wiki if you wish to contribute or edit...

If you have problems with the wiki-markup language... just type it straight text and i'll see about breaking it up under subheadings and the likes.

Its not an 'entire site'...

It works similar to an encyclopedia or dictionary...

You look stuff up... if its there you'll get a result.. .if its not, it'll give you the opprotunity to write something on it...

If a link in an article turns up 'red' that means the link was put in place, but no article has been written for that subject yet... if it turns up blue, it means there is another article about that subject at another location...

its just a massive database pretty much... you ca search the database, but not view everything in its entirety...

I can probably add a php script somewhere that displays links to all articles if ya want... just gotta give me time to work it out.

Your edit was nowhere near the truth. apeci's "tinkering" had nothing to do with the database corruption.

The control panel was not backing up the entire database, and that is the reason we lost half of the posts.

apeci did his job. He took a backup, upgraded the board software, and loaded up the database.

Hostgator had the same issue on their end, and was not properly backing up the database either.

One thing to consider. As we start Loading this thing with conspiracies eventually some Opinion will find their way in... i wasn't sure if my history page was too personal or not, and some may feel that it is also.
the beauty is we can debate it and change it if we feel it is needed.

Apeci was both loved and despised during his Amkon tenure. This poster was one of the few that loved him and miss his input. afaic any editing that takes place on wiki is fine, even personal opinion of an event, as long as it is recognised as a personal opinion and not an argument for or against.

The database backup "program" in the admin control panel was corrupt because it would time out after so long, and not save the entire database.

That was how we were backing up the database at the time.

The database backup "program" in the cpanel was not corrupt, however we had not been backing the forum up that way, hence the loss of posts.

cog may be right that apeci was upgrading the smite software at the time, I don't remember what particular upgrade was going on, but that's the truth.

The ACP backup was corrupt, the cpanel backup (from hostgator) was not.

But since hostgator royally fucked us, and did not help us out in time, the cpanel backed up the corrupted ACP backup we had "rolled back" to.

If you want to ignore wiki formatting, use <nowiki>text here</nowiki> and you can show examples of how something should look.
