my girl was recently diagnosed with m.s. and im looking to see if anyone here has, or knows a relative that is living with it.
just for some help with symptoms, and maybe a good forum to join for both of us.
shes taking it pretty well, but i can see her really hurting inside.
i really need to step up to the plate to try and help her emotionally, so if you dont see me often, im still around....
thank you anyone that can help us...

You've got quite a challenge facing you and your daughter, but we're never presented such challenges without being fully equipped to deal with them.
How severe is it?

Must be his GF.
He has a son, I think.
I feel for ya'll, but it's a growth
experience.
You'll do just fine.
I know two people that have it and they both function fine and have for a long time, I think you need to keep stress levels to a minimum and have a positive attitude. It will be okay!

I don't know anyone personally, but guess what, pot helps.
New Scientist: Cannabis truly helps multiple sclerosis sufferers (http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn6387-cannabis-truly-helps-multiple-sclerosis-sufferers.html)
Cannabis may loosen the stiff and spastic muscles of multiple sclerosis sufferers, and not just their minds, a follow-up study has found.
The results contradict findings from the first phase of the study, where improvements seemed to be largely due to "good moods".
"There does seem to be evidence of some benefit from cannabis in the longer term that we didn't anticipate in the short term study," says John Zajicek, at Peninsula Medical School in Exeter, UK, and one of the research team.
In 2003, Zajicek and his colleagues published results on the largest study to date of cannabinoids and MS. The trial included 630 advanced-stage MS patients who took either cannabinoid compounds or a placebo for 15 weeks.
Compared with those on placebos, patients who received active compounds said they both felt less pain and less muscle spasticity - the spasms characteristic of this neurodegenerative disease.

Good luck, there will be some sort of support group if you look around. I've know a few with ms and as hp said they still have very full lifes, from my understanding it comes and goes and slowly gets worse, but everyone different. Try all sorts till something work for you's . . . one day at a time :D

I've got M.S.-like symptoms.... never been diagnosed as such.... could be some unknown adventure ahead.... but pot has never helped me with them. At points, it has worstened my symptoms severely. Depends on the person.

burning and numbness, loss of balance, weakness.
gave her neurontin for it, but it knocks her out and takes 7 days to take effect.

Have her talk to a doc in New Jersey. They just legalized medical marijuana for the "very sick". Maybe he/she can talk some sense into her.
Cannabis is the safest therapeutic substance known to man.
No one has ever died, or overdosed.

I think you can get marinol in any state actually, with a doctors prescription. It doesn't work anywhere near as well as smoking/vaporizing/consuming the entire plant though, and you can't dose yourself like you can with smoking.

An alternative to medical marijuana is medicinal hemp seed, full of nutrients. You can't get high off it. It's one of the most awesome foods on the planet IMO.
www.Curezone.com (http://www.Curezone.com) might have some good support for M.S.
the people at the raw forum on www.sunfood.com (http://www.sunfood.com) are also helpful and knowledgable.

I know 3 people with MS, 2 in their 30's, one who's in their teens and none of them smoke pot. Not saying there's anything wrong with it cause it could well help, but mostly they have to relax and can't over-exert themselves.
Also, one of the young girls I look after at work has MS, I'm not going to lie - it's difficult to deal with for the person suffering and their loved ones.
But just keep a positive attitude, don't let it get you or her down. It will probably make you stronger as long as you're there for her through it.
I've also heard that hemp seed is good, herbal remedies and supplements can probably help the symptoms.

i know its hard on her, but it is really kickin my ass watching what its doing to her.
32yrs old, i have to help her around the houde, out of the car, and the neurontin shes on is making her a zombie.
makes her so tired that she wonders if its worth it.
and this is a woman i camp with, play bal with the kids, all kinds of stuff.
i know im not the one that has the worst of it, but hell, to see this happen over a month is crazy.
and the pain is untouchable, i cant massage it, or help her with stretches.
i feel helpless, but im gonna be here for her, because i want to.
and she would for me.
thank you all, and hanbe, if you could ask how they dealt with the neurontin drowsiness, i would appreciate it. if they used it....

I think you should find a support group for those that care for loved ones with MS.
A little compare and contrast with some folks that have been there might help you keep your sanity in the midst of adversity.
Sure she's going through pain, but don't forget yourself in the equation or you'll be no help to anyone in the long run.
The best of luck to you, sir.

Sorry to hear about that GF, I can't imagine what you're going through...If you need anything, let us know.
...I don't know why she won't at least trying puffing some herb. What possible harm could it do?
Would she listen to the advice of what the national ms society has to say about the subject?
Patients in Cannabis-Based Drug Trial Reported Some Benefit for Relieving Spasticity in MS (http://www.nationalmssociety.org/news/news-detail/index.aspx?nid=137)
Granted the study was based around sativex, she'd probably feel better with the whole plant than the synthetic version anyway.

im back, picked up some jaeger for the nerves!
woo hoo...
im all for her smoking, beleive me, its very mortalizing, or almost belittling how useless i feel.
ive tried giving her some of my old pills, didnt work.
ive scored 15mg perks, they dont work.
shes getting hit with 3mg dilaudid at the hospital.
it puts her out for a few, but its giving relief at least.
i had 1mg 2x when they set my shoulder, and i was wrecked, i cant imagine how this stuff hurts.
might meet murnut later, if the lil bottle of jaeg dont toss me too hard.
dont wanna be in a bed down the hall from her in cuffs.

I am pretty sure marinol is legal with a prescription in every state, so that shouldn't be a problem. Smoking the whole plant is another story.

i think if its pill form, she wont have a problem.
i bet if the doc prescribed em, said its hemp, or thc, she wouldnt ever know.
but i told her, so the wheels are spinning in her favor now, and if prescribed im betting she will take them.
im gonna look and see if marinol is legal in pa.
skunk
02-01-2010, 10:56 PM
The DEA recognizes marinol as a medicine, I don't see why it wouldn't be legal in pennsylvania.

http://www.justice.gov/dea/ongoing/marinol.html
yeah, its fda approved, so im betting its legal here.
doctors willigness to prescribe it may be different, though.
i gotta say, weve been to st marys hospital many times together, my shoulder, 3 times for her kidney stones, car accident, miscarraige, and a few other"incidents" where she has had to take me, and this floor is a dedicated m.s. wing.
so many nice people there, and its a whole different attitude with the nurses and staff.
other times it was like we were a problem, a number, or in the way, here they are very sincer in the care and affection they display, truly seems like they are trying to help out.

You might want to try Jim Humble's MMS too, I'm having great results with it for various issues... I can honestly say that I believe 90 per cent of the glowing testimonials I read....
There is an alternative theory that says MS is caused by mycoplasmas, or some sort of nanobacteria, and people are gettig good results from treating it with anti-parasite, anti-viral medication.

Guinessford, the only advice I can give you is to lock yourself in a bathroom for about 5 minutes. Make sure that no one can hear you and just go ape shit. curse out everyone and everything, scream out loud why her, why us, why me, ..... and cry. Sob like a little girl. For a full 5 minutes. Then wash your face, dry your tears and hold her in your arms and remember how lucky you are to have her.
If you try to hold inside all the things you are feeling, it will eventually wear you down, gnaw at you and blur into one imcomprehensible torrent of emotion. followed closely by that silent insidious monster we call guilt. My mom didn't have MS, but she wasted away the last 10 years of her life. Letting it all go helped me in so many ways, that when she passed on was not as traumatic as it could have been.

MS is out of my league but I saw some interesting research saying it might be caused by a mycoplasma.
Some people seemed to be having great results with MMS (from Jim Humble) I can personally attest to it's power. It's great stuff, and a 6 month supply is only 20 dollars.
I also came across some info about the ascorbic acid megadosers seeing good results with their vitamin C protocols. Google Pauling, Stone, Klenner etc.
Good Luck...
