View Full Version : Question about X-Box
Thought someone here might be able to answer this question. My son got his X-Box moded?? I didn't know he was going to do that, he did it to get cheap games apparently.
He was one of the millions banned by Microsoft.
I just found out about this recently, gave him my major lecture about stealing and why games are expensive, yada yada.
He paid $50 to get the mod done and told me it will cost $50 to get it reversed. I told him he is throwing bad money against bad money and his system was banned so even if he fixes it back to what it should be, it is too late.
My question: Am I right?
Should he just start saving up for a new X-Box and lesson learned?
Appreciate your input.

My advice..burn the Xbox..and make him earn the money for a new system.
Looks like the console is dead for online gaming

Thanks, that is what I thought. I was choked when I found out he did that, I had just purchased the Unit for a Birthday present not long ago and it was the top of the line one so a bit more expensive than the regular ones.
I could strangle him, I am all about honesty. I keep telling him the reason games cost so much is to make up for the people that steal them. Tried explaining that the hours of work the people put in to make those games is huge and they need to be paid for their work!
Sucks............
He makes good money so no big deal for him to purchase a new one, it really just irks me big time!

i've considered modding, but i've come to realize... if i like a game, damn right i want to support the developers. thus, imo, buying dragon age, ac1, ac2 limited edition, etc was worth the money and sort of a reward in its own right.
make him fork over the dough for a new one

As a parent you are right.
I rip ALL digital media because I think art should be free. Fuck em'. Ususally the developers arent getting the $$ anyhow.

i dont use my x-box for online gaming, but i pay for all my games anyway.
i usually will rent a game first or try a demo, if i like it i'll buy it, if it's shit i won't.

Ps3>>>X-box>>Wii
just got wii for the kids this xmas. its actually good fun.
i only use the xbox now to play a few games.
havent got ps3 yet.
dont use the pc for games anymore. my fingers are too fat for laptop keyboard. :)
I used to play Pong, it was a box with two dials on it and you hit a white ball back and forth on the TV. It was mesmerizing!
That's about it for my gaming :)

well, given your fascination with stoopid cat tricks, maybe you can pull it out with your teeth before you hit security. be sure to consult your chiropractor and proctologist first though.

That was a little harsh

Pam...
here might be a place to start as far as getting the console back online:
http://www.tomsguide.com/us/Microsoft-Xbox-Consoles-Fix-Banned,news-5111.html
Thanks for the link but I personally don't care if it is fixed or not now, I just didn't want him to spend more money on something he already screwed up.
It's probably headed for the garbage, better plan then shoving it up my ass as Cartoon suggested

well if it comes down to he NEEDS to get online and buys a new one...
remember an xbox is a fully functioning computer as well...
I can point you in the direction to set it up as one....
but for god's sake don't throw it out... is online multiplayer really that important?
(sorry chii)
He hasn't touched it since he got banned. I think he likes playing the online "excuse my ignorance" war games or shooting games, not sure what they are called but he isn't in to single player games.
His older brother doesn't live at home anymore so they would play with each other online or with some of his other friends. They wear headsets and talk to each other as they play.
Again, I am more bugged that he did something illegal, he has lots of money and can easily afford the games.

Don't be bugged because he got it modded.
I got mine modded.
Although I am not a super big online gamer. If I wanted to I could and I have gone online with it..
He is not stealing from you nor is he taking from any personal person. He hurt a corperation. a corperation that rips off its employees and stifels progress.. ITS MICROSOFT FFS!
GO easy on him. He has commited no great sin done no evil thing. He had some changes made to a toy that makes his toy a more functional funner toy. Although it killed his online experience... But he can get that fixed with ease.
Please do not be annoyed that he got it modded. He did not do anything bad. If he kept the money out of a wallet he found but returned the wallet THAT WOULD BE WORSE... If he killed a lady bug for bothering him... that would be worse. He had a change made to a toy that allows him to make back up copies of his games... His games probably load faster too now... Their are all kinds of mods that can be done to the xbox to improve it.
It is a good thing not a bad thing.
