I get your point, but given the level of modification that has been done to the standard phpBB framework and warren's abject fascination with duplicating ATS, I could very well imagine that he might have taken a day and whipped up a PM monitor for the ACP.

It wouldn't be that hard given the length of technical knowledge required to modify the site that extensively in the first place.

I get your point, but given the level of modification that has been done to the standard phpBB framework and warren's abject fascination with duplicating ATS, I could very well imagine that he might have taken a day and whipped up a PM monitor for the ACP.

It wouldn't be that hard given the length of technical knowledge required to modify the site that extensively in the first place.

Yes, there is an admin log... in phpbb3 its an option to click right on the ACP front page...

here with Vb, its more complicated (I have to dive into teh server)

but... logs aren't the be-all end all... it takes 2 seconds and 0 skill to modify a log.

On the administrative panel there is a link that says "View Private Messages." I thought at first it was just a way for the Admin to easily view his/her own private messages. Then I noticed that I was able to view a PM sent to Nodrog from Knight. Knight and I did some experimenting with it last night. We sent some messages back and forth and then he deleted them. Yet they were STILL viewable to me. We thought that maybe it just took a while to refresh or something and that maybe they would disappear after a certain amount of time. I kept checking throughout the evening (for half an hour....maybe an hour) to see if they disappeared after that. They did not. I decided to wait until I got up this morning until I posted about it just in case they disappeared after a few hours. They did not. Therefore I wanted everyone to know that PM's are viewable by admin. I feel that we should all be honest about things like this and I wanted to be upfront with everyone about it right from the get-go.

I'm not going to use this feature. As Knight and I discussed last night, private messages should be kept private and seeing them is just too much information. So if you have something you want to say in total privacy to someone I suggest you use email. I'm fairly certain the same was true for Juryroll.com, although we can't be completely sure.

Again... PM's could be viewed from the raw SQL file... even with phpbb3... trust me... I remember telling an admin when fudging with the raw database that I felt bad because I could see the PM's...

But I was trying to fix an corrupted database... (yah... that was an absolutely horrid week) and wasn't 'reading them'... I just could see em..

Do what I do... its all free software...

Download LAMP (or WAMP if you're a windows carebare), then download phpbb3... its all free shit, and you can set it up right on your computer...

Thats how I was testing out the code before I put it on the website...

Lex, I believe you are right. But I also think that there are those that you don't ever connect with even if you "share a site". Are you BFF forever with everyone? Probably not. You find your "family" and I think those still at SHTF did, I think Tracer and I and some of the others did...just different families, I guess.

it woudl be way easier for phpbb3... but the Vb database is a giant clusterfuck...

I'm fairly certain I can come up with simple php app that can extract the appropriate rows from the pm table. It's a clusterfuck, but it's not so difficult to just extract the right rows where userid = so and so. But it's probably much much easier to just type the appropriate query straight into the cpanel. Save the query in a txt file so next time it's just a copy paste plus a little modification where userid is concerned.

You told me later that you didn't see the thread or you would have commented before my request was carried out and I lost access to the special forum. What happened after that is open for speculation.

I left the Council with my dignity and integrity intact. I advised you to do the same. But you were too wrapped up in it all to let it go that easily. You PM'd me here at Amkon asking my advice on how you should proceed with your "apology" and I recommended that you post it here if you really wanted to clear the air. You and Tracer were very friendly to me for a little while, but I suspect that even you two, got a little paranoid about my intentions and motives. I think that because neither of you have reached out to me since your bannings. Which before, you were both very "friendly" with me, even to the point of asking my help in setting up an article for your new site based on Tracer's post at SHTF on my Goodbye thread.

I know. But. We put alot of ourselves into something we both apparently misinterpreted. We got the ATS shaft then the Amkon lunge and then SHTF fiasco all within a short time span. We are people. I could give two shits about SHTF anymore. Real deal stuff has taken its place as it ought to. I wanted to help a friend out and I've been bad about that but will get back on it over at ANV.
