I haven't ripped a DVD in a long time, but you might want to check out game copy world (http://www.gamecopyworld.com/)

You will want to start with those 2 tools
If the dvd is protected, you might want to use DVD Decrypter (http://www.dvddecrypter.org.uk/SetupDVDDecrypter_3.5.4.0.exe)
If not, skip step one and get AutoGK (http://www.autogk.me.uk/index.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownloaddetails&lid=2). It is an easy to work with xvid/divx encoder.
If your dvd is not protected, then there will be no need to "rip" it.
Open Window Explorer
Go to your drive and right click on the drive that contains the dvd and select "Explore"
You will probably see this

Double click on the Video folder "Video_ts" this is where all your audio and video file are located under the form of .vob, .bup and . ifo
Looks like this

Copy and paste them to a new folder, and then fire up Auto GK
Depends on how long your movie is, and the quality you would like it to be, you will need to select a Mb size.
From there, AutoGK have a great tutorial to walk you through your conversion.

Good luck and if you need extra help, just drop me a pm and i'll join you in chat :)
