View Full Version : Desalination - solution or insanity?

I've been thinking this for a while and wanted to ask the bright minds here what you think, so here goes...

Africa is a corrupt cesspool with huge oil reserves that have been plundered many moons ago by the West. The Gulf of Guinea runs along the west coast of Africa and Nigeria was one of the biggest oil producers with 2Million+ barrels per day.

My question to the Amkon hive mind is this...would it be possible to empower villages with desalination units as simple as a plastic sheet to capture condensation (http://www.blog.thesietch.org/wp-content/uploads/2007/08/waterconework1600.jpg)? It could be even simpler; just give them a plastic sheet and show them how to dig a hole, lay the sheet and put a stone in the middle. Condensation then collects from the hot sun.

You could even have a simple hose-pipe network to draw sea water inland and every few miles have a hand pump to create a pressure difference / capillary action. This sea water can then be filtered with sand or desalinated with the aforemtioned method to allow villages to grow crops.

HOWEVER, this would never happen, as the last thing the West wants is for Africa to become self-sufficient whilst there exists black gold. Instead they feed the corruption by funding militias to protect the pipelines, without giving two shits about how to drag the continent out of the 'dark' ages.

Again, i refer members here to my oil thread (http://www.abovetopsecret.com/forum/thread517352/pg1) over @above pop secret.

the last thing the West wants is for Africa to become self-sufficienti agree with that. africa's only value to west is a source of cheap fuel so all the little men can run their silly motorcars around.

Yep it's a good idea. These are the kind of threads that really interest me..

Forget about whether the Bilderbergers want it or not, if you look close you'll probably find there are a few grassroots initiatives going on right now.

They had a similar project in Chile. I think it's called a fog fence. Yep here it is:

Welcome to FogQuest

FogQuest is a non-profit, registered Canadian charity dedicated to planning and implementing water projects for rural communities in developing countries. We utilize innovative fog collectors as well as effective rainfall collectors to make optimum use of natural atmospheric sources of water.

I don't know about America, but in Norway we have an organisation called "Kirkens Nødhjelp" ("The Church' Aid") which does a lot of work to help people in need all over the world, also in Africa.

Through this organisation you can for instance "buy" goats, chickens, waterpumps, school materiel, mosquito nets and other things which will be given to people and villages which need them, and you receive a certificate which you then can use as a present to someone who is not so much in need...

I gave away some goats and waterpumps last year as Christmas presents, and have done some shopping at "Kirkens Nødhjelp" this year too.

Link to page, even though I know you won't understand a word. But hey, you can always look at pictures... :)

Perhaps there is an organisation in America who does something similar and could use your support? Just a suggestion.

TT, i know these organisations mean well, but they are worthless IMO.

Much like the blatant corruption of [Red nose day], [chidren in need] or [Feed the World] here in the UK. They tug on people's heart strings and then put the money raised into a slush fund and wrap it with so much red-tape beurocracy, it would take years and many middle-men to filter funds, just to build a water well.

Instead, just air-drop plastic sheets all over Africa with a simple picture leaflet, showing them how to desalinate, perhaps with a few seeds to boot.

Non-profit charities are just as bad as corrupt politicians; a sheep in wolf's clothing but they still herd the masses.

Also, it's funny how viable green tech is made out to be too expensive or unfeasible to be practical. Instead it's easier to spend $1Billion per week on oil wars in dust-bowl countries, where indigenous populations can't defend themselves.

Sick fuck politicians...die you mofo's. DECENTRALISE governments and don't owe one cent in debt to banks, to oust their fractional reserve funny money ponzi scheme. Time to take back power from the 1% who now own 99% of the wealth.

- Yep, the big joke/tragedy is that it's the complete opposite.

This thread is pretty good, The Great Awakening:

BE, I think you asked for the link before, in the economics thread.

Mini Vertical Sprout farms ala Valcent could revolutionise African agriculture. Sprouts go from seed to edible in 5 days. Alfalfa is seen as a cattle feed in many parts of the world when its a highly nutritious food. Again, there are many grassroots projects going on...

The air drop of the sheets would still cost money. the sheets would cost money, the leaflets would cost money, the seeds would cost money. You must still find some way of paying for it all. Not such an easy task. But an organisation with a good reputation and track record can raise the money and get the job done.

But yes, we have had some BS "help organisations" here in Norway too, which turned out to be nothing more than money making machines for the founders.... They were quickly busted and shut down. There will always be assholes in this world. But that is a poor excuse to shy away from every help organisation, in my opinion.

I make monthly donations to "Kirkens Nødhjelp" and "The Red Cross", and I will continue to do so.

Shit.

Just send a bunch of pot
heads over there and tell
them to start growing.

Place will be a fucking
forest, in no time.

Stoners are creative when
it comes to getting high.

True... Stoners have pioneered + improved a lot of innovative intensive farming techniques... such as hydroponics.

Just give 'em a load of Alfalfa seeds and tell them its skunk...
