Wasn't sure where to put
this, so move if needed.
My position is clear.
No time limits.
I will ask that opinions be
explained, so we get a clear
view of everyones stance.
I'll also ask (in futility) that
attacks on others stances be
kept at a minimum.
This is so the people that run
this asylum can get a good
idea of the reasons we voted
the way we did.

torb's argument changed my mind.
Users should have complete content control over their own material, and administration should do nothing to make that ability easier or more difficult than the software already does.

I voted yes to time limits. Going back days or weeks or even months later to edit or delete is just... warrenb. The actions of a coward. If you open your mouth and speak, you should be man/woman enough to stand by your words. Or you could later admit that you were wrong, have evolved or changed your mind. Nothing wrong in that.
But a limited time window to edit for spelliing mistakes should be still allowed, in my opinion. I make a lot of spelling errors and also sometimes use the wrong words and expressions because of the language barrier. It's nice to be able to correct and clarify.
But I also get that I'm a noob here, and I'll respect any decision made.

Yeah none of us are perfect trauma and if anyone thinks so they're full of it.
We've made plenty of mistakes here and will continue to make more in the future, hopefully not the same ones though.

I say no time limits. The whole notion of these posts being ours and not the boards means that I am the owner of my posts right? If I am not allowed control of my posts then they are no longer mine are they? Granted this does allow other morally questionable folks to go wild and delete all of their content if they wish but those kinds of folks are not the main contributors here. They will come and go with the wind while we remain. We are the main contributors so as it is our content I say we should be allowed to control it as we see fit... and if we act like assholes deleting everything we ever posted the record will reflect that foolishness regardless if we delete our content or not.
But I also get that I'm a noob here, and I'll respect any decision made.
your opinion is as respected as anyone, whether they've made one post or one thousand posts.
for the time being the decision won't change, for at least a few weeks as i stated earlier.
howveer if at the end of that period the majority of folk would like to return everything to the forum software default then thats what we will do.
we made a decision based on what seemed like a 60/40 split of the members, reached what we believed was a reasonable compromise, maybe we misread the mood of the majority and will need to change.
we do need time to see what that will be.
the door is not shut, we can all nut this out over the next short period of time (2 or 3 weeks) and come up with the best fit for amkon.

I think many if not most here should be able to spot a WarrenB type poster.
The quote button is all that is required to hold those accountable
it is a difficult one mur, i can easily see both pov.
maybe our compromise needs to be a longer window, i dont know.
time will tell, and we'll do what the majority wants in the end.

Haha yeah I guess so. There's a lot of bullshit on the net to laugh at.
at the end of the day BE it will be a "majority" of members board decision.
we've made them before, some i agreed with and some i didn't.
i'll learn to live with it either way because i love this place and don't want to go anywhere else.
