View Full Version : Ever dreamt you died in your sleep?

I did. Couple of times.
Not that I was looking for it or anything. Lord knows what the hell was going through my mind at the time when I dreamt it.
Supposedly, the 24-48 hours before someone dreams is the time period that is most influential'; basically, whatever went on during those days would somehow evolve into our dreams - well...'symbolically' at the very least.
The one dream that strikes out the most is when the kids, hubby and I went on a picnic of some sorts. (this one ties in with the apocolyptic nightmare I had)
We were facing south...I remember seeing Lake Ontario off in the distance. 'Something' detrimental happened south of the border, and before I knew it, a missle shot northwards and screamed across the horizon towards our direction. I wasn't sure if it exploded below our border or on our side (dreams are weird like that), all I know is that I could see it wayyyyyyy off in the distance.
It was like a 'zoom affect'. Kind of like knowing that it was far away, but being able to see it up close.
The moment I saw it, I knew it was going to explode. I grabbed hubby, held him close, and we closed our eyes; waiting for 'the moment'.
At the moment of impact, there was the bright, and I felt the 'gush of the destroying energy' ripping through me.
I don't remember if I was still holding hubby, but the BIGGEST 'terror feeling' I've ever experienced (more so than when I was conscious) gripped me and I couldn't shake it.
Then everything went black.
I mean total NOTHINGNESS.
Couldn't even feel if I was 'conscious' in the dream itself. It was as if I didn't exist at all.
Then...
I could hear voices calling me; or rather saying: "We're HERE, we're here...finaly here". Couldn't see where they were coming from but heard them.
I remembered opening my eyes to a different and pleasant scenery. Can't remember what I saw at that point, but not long after that, I woke up. Just one of those dreams that sticks with you...ya know?
Anyways...
I was thinking of something else while typing this.
Reminded me of when I 'went under' in an 8 hr surgery. For some reason, I didn't dream anything while I was under anethesia. I'm sure that anyone who's ever had general surgery can relate? There was absolute NOTHINGNESS at that time.
One minute I'm laying on the gurney, slowly drifing off (slightly heard people moving about with instruments/mumble-talking) then the next moment...nothing. When I woke up, it was as if no time had passed at all, and I thought..."Are we done already?"
~~~~~~~~~
I often wondered/surmised, if the terror dream (beginning of my OP) tapped into that part of my subconscious and related with my above assertations of the surgery aspect.
Who knows.
When you sleep, it is akin to your PC turning on the screen saver: it's still working, but it's not utilizing all of it's input and output capabilities because there's no need for it.
Anesthesia is like your PC going into hibernation mode: there's still something going on, but it's only the bare minimum required to say that the computer is still "on" but no real work can be performed.
I've always found it interesting that in your dreams you never tell lies.
I've always found it interesting that in your dreams you never tell lies.
THAT...is interesting that you brought that up!
I've noticed as well.
It's like we 'can't help it', and because our subconscious is the 'main function' at the time when we're dreaming - almost like truth serum in a weird way.
I found it was VERY MUCH easier to tell the truth in my dreamstate than when I'm conscious. Easier to discern when something was 'true or not'.
When I think about it now, that's probably what truth serum does to people on an unconscious level in some sorts. The inhibitions are 'down' and what remains is....
Duplicity is a function of the conscious ego.
The subconscious has no use for such worthless diversions of thought.
"Telling lies" in a dream is only valid within the context of the dream itself: the truth of one dream is the fallacy of another.
Kind of a lot like people in general, no?
EXACTLY. No...seriously...I agree with you on this :D
You know...when you mentioned 'duplicity'...I always thought of the 'yin/yang', 'good/bad', 'this/that', the palm of my hand faces either up or down (giving or receiving) - depending on the state of affairs of my mind.
And in many instances, I often wonder the 'bridge between this world and another'.
Though many on this board don't care to even entertain the notion that there 'might be more' after we've fufilled our purpose on this side of the coin, I think it's in everyone's best interest to keep their options open.
If we can't 'sketch it'...it doesn't exist
If we can't measure it by scientifical standards of today's means...then it doesn't exist.
I remember telling everyone (a while back) that 'just because we don't have a current-up-to-date scientific means to measure etherical things, doesn't mean that something 'doesn't exist'. I won't get into the 'God Aspect' of this at this time, as it's fruitless, but I just want people to be more open to what's going on around them and not 'poof poof' things off so quickly.
Long time ago, people were insanely superstitious.
The 'wind' ...was God's breath, or too much heat on the crops (destroying them) was God's anger...and so forth.
Just because we can't measure some etherical ideas today, doesn't mean that we won't have the means TOMORROW.
I once had an intense dream of death... I have actually more than I care but one stands out because of its lucidity... which is odd considering.
I was on the lamb running for my life. I broke into what I presumed to be a vacated house I looked for something to aid me but finding nothing but my pursuer catching up to me I fled. The problem is you can not out run a hundred foot robot on foot.
I dashed sideways into a ditch/crick but that was a far as I got when a fucking Laser beam entered through my right shoulder and exited my left thigh. The pain was not much but the thought of the blood I was losing and the wonder if my heart was still there was something else as I slumped into the ditch... My feelings were of calm acceptance and as I felt myself fading my final thoughts were of wondering "what will my next life be like".
I calming woke up immediately after that. dream done. But as I laid there and processed it ...that was something else....I wasn't dead but oh look at this, This is what my next life is like. Its mine! Awesome!
Science is a method of exploring the unknown, not denying it. Casual debunkery isn't science. Solid theories, with flawless execution and reproducible results, combined with the ability to admit when you're wrong is what scientific discovery has always been about. No more, no less.
The method can be applied to any train of thought and is probably one of the greatest contributions to the human condition made by Western society.
Putting the cart before the horse doesn't mean you're necessarily wrong in your assumption, it means that no one else has any reason to believe anything you say.
BUTTTTTTTTTT...you have to remember...
MANY scientific 'theories' were - the cart before the horse, before they were proven to be elsewise.
Before 'every action' is a thought/idea.
Such notions 'have to be descriminated against the scientific community firstly'...
Which means, these ideas have to be 'tested firstly' to determine whether they are 'valid or not'.
This much I DO know.
The present scientific standards only go so-far. Until we come up with better means that we have today, the 'absence of evidence' connotation stands as is, until proven otherwise, but it's only 'temporary truth'.
Fortean exceptions to the norm are not invalidation of science or its "truths", they indicate more of a failing of your own perceptions to integrate them into what is empirically verifiable.
What science have you done to prove your theories? Is your science greater than that which opposes your theories?
If so, then you should publish for peer review because you've discovered something new.
One time, I was in a lawn chair sipping on lemonade while watching it happen.
Other time, I was in the basement, and I can't remember whether I died, or whether I survived and saw the aftermath. But I remember a bright flash and a loud roar, and then my basement widow blew out and the air gust just knocked everything to hell.
I would have to say my absolute worse dreams are when I dream I am incarcerated.
I FUCKING HATE THOSE DREAMS! I don't have them anymore... but after I was fresh out after a year on a bullshit controlled substance poss charge ...yeah... it seemed like every few weeks...at least once a month I would dream of being locked up again.... The feeling of being caged...damn...... I have a serious lack of respect for LEO... Partly cause I was innocent... I was guilty of being in the same vicinity of contraband...partly because the whole experience followed me into my fucking dreams... I'd like to say that it is something I totally let go of yet i'm sure time will take care of that old bitter wound.
LEO= Law enforcement officer. locked up, doing time, the slammer the clink the big house.
I aint joking when I say they are getting stupider as they grow lazier... Man... I got some stories....not sure if their interesting all the same,
I was riding an electric scooter one day.... The kind you can push off and go faster than the motor can take you... under that it is classified as a "human assisted motorized vehicle." like a moped. Anyways that meant it could take me from point A to point B and I did not need a license to drive it (if you could call it driving) . So I am going up and down the road in all my 20 MPH glory when a cop pulls me over.
Ahhhhh My humiliation is complete.
this fuck says I need a license and insurence and I try to explain to him what the law is...he was unsure but said that he was letting me off with a warning and that he did not want ot see me again on the road with out a license...Time passes...I keep riding my electric scooter this same cop catches up with me... This time he is gunning to arrest me. Goes on and on about how it has a head light and tail light so that makes it a street legal vehicle and because I had no license and no insurance I was going to jail . He had his cuffs out. About that time he gets a call and it took precedence.
Again another warning.
To be sure I looked up the city and state law before I bought this thing.
Oh yeah... If I stood and kicked off I could get a max speed of 25 MPH. On the plus side it could do 20 mph for about an hour...hour and a half. Never saw that cop again.. But I rode that scooter till the wheels fell off. Then I broke down and bought a car...still lack my license but it felt good to be legal for awhile.... even if the cops did harass me to the contray....pigs.
Never concidered myself above the law or anything; pretty fuckin happy I went below the radar with a few things.
Does it make me special? Mabey...and mabey fucklin not.
Greatful for anything that comes by my way though.
I noticed a LOT of people in here like to splay their badges.
Badges = fuckin up with the law and what nots and gettin away with LOADS of stuffs
how can one be above the law if they don't believe laws really "exist" anyway?
Its a simple tyranny of the majority...
the courts are a proxy of that majority...
Police enforce the Tyranny...
at the end of the day... Its just a giant fuckin' machine that rips liberties and rights away from the individual...
There is only a small difference in actually doing it, Skunky.
Go for it. Fuckit. I think about killing people all the time. I even think about killing multiple people, multiple times. I dont think I'll ever actually do it, at least in the near future but who knows. Ya know, it could be a do or die kinda thing. Ya have to think about it. Or you could get fucked up. I had to think about that the first time I had a gun between my eyes. The first thing I thought was to the effect that I knew the dipshit wasn't going to actually kill me. Then I thought about how I should kill him for not killing me. Of course I didnt, because I haven't actually studied forensics, I was just taught the shitty glam version by forcing myself through multiple episodes of CSI hoping that somehow, by saying nothing and doing some boring, brainless shit I may, just may be able to be attractive enough to get a make out session and some grab ass during the credits...
I just dont kill people because I dont want to go to jail.
Anywhooleededoo...
Ive had dreams that Ive died before. One time I was really sick with mono...I was 14 I believe. Fell off a building, hit the ground and woke up 22 hours later on the floor with a big ass bump on my head.
Other then that, I dont really dream much. I think Its because I dont sleep well. I like dreaming and wish I would more often...
Any suggestions?
