Please post any error you run into or a suggestion you have for the board so we can keep an eye on what needs to be done.

Thanks.

hrm...

maybe delete cookies and try again?

Its possible that you're cookies are goofed up from being on yesterday before the import...

give it a shot...

All permissions are set... there's no reason I can see why you shouldn't be able to play.

There also seems to be some forums missing.

Is that a result of the member group issue?

yah.. any of the forums that were "secret" or required special privileges are on lockdown until we get the usergroups sorted out...

Lex...

How did you lose the link?!? its in the main forum template...

you can see it when you're logged out even... you just can't click...

I'm thinking it might be something messed up on the user end... not the server end...

I dunno... I'll check the Vb forums and see if anyone's had that problem before..

I like the new software, much more stable.

However there's just so many widgets and whatnot all over the place that it just feels more complex than it should be.

Logout and look at the portal page. It looks about as chaotic as ATS, and equally hard to navigate.

The setup is like the Linux of vB skins, when all we need is just some nice shiny buttons for basic tasks, and everything else hidden under a single collapsible menu.

I'm half tempted to just download a trial copy of vB 3.8.4, make my own skin and then just harass you to install it so I can use it even if no one else wants to.

Do you have Flash enabled or disabled?

Yah, but the info on the portal (latest threads etc) is SEO... thats why its there...

everything else is for the user... its a pretty standard portal page...

the "Global Announcements" only shows up.. well.. when there's an active global announcement :)

LOL go for it man... Save me the trouble of having to code another theme :)

Anyway the portal page is set up by VbAdvanced and VbSEO... even with a diff skin, its still going to have the same info...

Cogburn
11-19-2009, 05:35 PM
There's no need to have all that displayed to the user. Hidden DIVs will take care of that. Crafting for SEO is an artform.

Aesthetically the site has always looked like poo-poo.

I think I just might invest the time.

It is fun watching you edit your posts 15 times in real-time, however.

pack3tg0st
11-19-2009, 05:36 PM
LOL Only once...

Unfortunately I clicked "go advanced" instead of save on the edit... and it got all haywire from there...

(I wasn't paying attention) lol

pack3tg0st
11-19-2009, 05:38 PM
You need to have dynamic info on your portal page... thats almost a given...

Its also the reason Amkon.net hasn't been re-archived since the splash page went up :)

the more content that changes... the more often we'll get hit by spiders...

That, and the "recent posts" on the Portal page, means that the portal page gets traffic... another important factor for SEO...

a portal page that never gets traffic is worthless...

Cogburn
11-19-2009, 05:42 PM
Really?

As I was typing my response I saw the post change about 4 times as you altered the quotes.

"Go Advanced" in a live thread must do periodic AJAX updates directly from the editor.

Spooky.

NOTE: You can turn on the WYSIWYG editor in your personal options. It took a bit to find it.

Spiders don't process CSS. All of the information would be there, however it wouldn't be displayed to the user.

I don't know why SEO would even be a consideration.

Who cares if random asshats can't find the site? Anyone who wants to find this place, does.

Now adding lines on top of the other one...

Just to see what happens...
adding crap in here...

Spooky.
Indeed...

I'm gonna try it again... and see what happens... I never considered that you'd see real-time editing with a live topic...

let me know when your ready LOL

Don't even know if you're ready LOL

oh well... would be interesting if it did do that...

pack3tg0st
11-19-2009, 06:08 PM
yah... I don't think there's a way around that...

after it's done being a live topic (I think its on 5 min timeout) than it clicks back to a normal forum...

BTW... Cog reported one of my posts lol

That could get annoying... I might have to disable post reporting LOL

unless we want to keep it up for goatse and gore reporting...

You can change your "custom user title" underneath your name in the user control panel.

pack3tg0st
11-19-2009, 08:40 PM
lol well... YOU can skunk...

I don't think they can... it's something I decided would be an added bonus for being "speshul"...

and so far.. I think I've only assigned 1 user as speshul... (I'm fuckin' slow)

Its going to be a PITA to sort the special forums out...

user by user... ya have to assign them to the usergroup...

I thought about making it a hard number though... like 200 posts and you have access...

Or... you can swap your BTS points in for a COOL avatar background and access to RATS :)

The "view recent posts" at the
top was rather nice.

Just a suggestion.

I know ya'll are doing your best.

pack3tg0st

View recent posts is on the Portal page now lex...

But anyway... I resolved your problem with the Arcade...

You're getting logged out at that page for some reason...

When you get there... and see the error... look in the upper right... is there a spot for you to log in?

do you have cookies enabled and the likes?

wonder why its doing that...

Could we have more viewing colours?

When I first found Amkon over a year ago I didn't log on cos the green font made me puke...Now I'm logged on in yellow.

Is it difficult to code more colours? I'd love to view in dark purple or deep blue...

Just an idea.

skunk
12-20-2009, 08:09 AM
At the bottom left corner of the page is a drop down menu that will allow you to choose your own skin or style.

Raptor Jesus
12-20-2009, 08:11 AM
Yeah but I wondered if you could add more colours to that list, Amkon Yellow is good... Amkon deep purple would be better...

skunk
12-20-2009, 08:14 AM
Oh yeah pack'll be the one adding that kind of stuff. If I were to try, we'd be fucked I'm sure.

So you want a purple skin like deep purple was, anything else?
