So, my wife comes home Sunday
and says she smelled anti-freeze
coming from her truck.

For some reason, I seem to have
more problems with cooling systems
on my vehicles, than anything else.

So I go out there, pop the hood and
take a look.

Fucking everything was wet. I tasted
the fluid. Yep, anti-freeze.

But visually, and squeezing hoses showed
nothing.

I had her start it.

BINGO.

Big stream coming off the top of the
left head intake.

Get my flashlight and look closer.

It's a fucking pressed in pipe, as far
as I could tell, with a rubber hose
clamped too it. The pipe was spewing.

Friends where she works told her about
this place, so we get it towed there.
It was leaking bad enough, I didn't
want to drive it.

The guy calls and says the pipe is a
"non-servicable" item. Gotta get the
whole intake.
Then says, "But, we've seen this before.
We remove the pressed in pipe, thread
the hole and screw in a fitting."

I coulda kissed the guy.

That's a mechanic, not a parts replacer.

He's getting all my business and I'll spread
the word about him.

God, there are so many open
doors in that post, and you
pick the first fucking line.

Have a smite.

hahahaha couldn't help myself... but i hear what your saying. it does the heart good to discover some sweet blossoms among the weeds. Sorta like that guy at the supermarket giving an old space case like me that 40 bucks. it reconfirms your faith in the kindly nature of humanity- even if for just a few minutes.

You should post the details of the shop in this thread. Location, name, phone, etc.

Give em one more bump in the Google rankings.

Yep.

Has it been this way the last
20 years ?

I like to think I helped customers
whenever I could.

Of course, Mgt. bitched, but the
way I looked at it, we're all cus-
tomers at some point.

Yeah, I'm telling everyone about
this guy.

The last place we took her truck,
it needed a speed sensor changed.

The guy talked a bunch of shit to her,
so I called him. (didn't say I was a
mechanic)

I listened to his spiel, then said " I know
how a speed sensor works."

This cocksucker says "Well, your the patient
talking to the doctor".

Good thing I was on the phone and not
in front of him.

Once again, my view of Humanity has been
bumped up a notch.

Cog, he's a small town guy.

Not sure he's on the net.

I am gonna get a handful of
his business cards, though.

what is it with some trades that makes them think they can rip you off blindly.

i fucking HATE mechanics, try do my own fix's where possible.
nothing personal to any mech's here, but everytime i take it somewhere i end up leaving with a sore arse and a light wallet.

i took my car to a shop right next to my work. told them replace the inner upper and inner lower susp arm bushings in the front end.
ohh big job, gotta remove the whole strutt, press out/in bushings etc, be about 320.

reluctantly i accept, i go by at lunch because the snack bar is right next to the mech, i see tht they did NOT remove the strutt at all, simple remove/install of a part.

then go to pay, and get slugged 350 for a job that was easier than they quoted.

a week later i do my own wheel bearings and brakes in teh front, cock suckers replaced the top bushing but didnt do the bottom one, they replaced some other pissy easy-access bushing instead.
now, my car sits apart in the driveway today, while a mobile mech. does the lower inner bushings and a whole bunch of other bushings + the ball joints
luckily he's decent enough to point out each problem so i can actually see the probs, and gives a respectable quote rather than just BS'ing me.

i once knew a fucking top knotch auto elecy. the dude charged a fair price for a fair job.
none of this take a short cut and overcharge crap.
unfortunately he lived AT the auto elec shop due to divorce, and last year hung himself due to depression.
laurie was an absolute top knotch bloke. totally honest and fair.
