I look across my balcony.
It's cold to the touch. Wet even.
The seasons changed when I wasn't looking.The leaves have fallen and I miss the warm mist of those booming and thunderous evenings when the light would hit the sky diagnally off in the distance
Sometimes I just like to put my hands below my chin, elbows propped on the edges of the cold steel, and take in the scenery. For all it's worth.
Now it's different.
I can't prop my elbows in the same way. I either have to wipe off the railing and use some sort of dry towel to keep my exterior senses from exploding (the cold will do that to you!) or succumb to the weather at its finest; to which isn't a good choice in my case.
I shouldn't complain (every moment is 'counted')
~Someone has just walked below where I live.~
As they hurry themselves in this cold to bring their pet to a 'strategic relieving spot', I see the disgust in the master's face. The leash is pulled like a bullwhip and the supposed tiny family member winces against the strength of the chains that bind it; propelling it to move on further.
I do nothing but watch.
There is no moon tonight. Only clouds and a haze. Parts of the ground 'mist up' and join the coldness. I strain to find any stars in the sky, but lower my gaze.
I close my eyes for a second as the drops gather in my hair and eyelashes; knowing that this 'water' which holds strength for the warmer seasons, will cease to be in a short while. Or rather, it will change to 'ice down; what it has protected and served for so long in these past few warm months.
It will be a crowning glory and a reminder to what we hold dear.
And that with each break of the ice in spring, and when the new ground springs forth, we will see a promise.
~Reaching with one hand to my already soaked bangs, and taking in this moment, I reconcile to myself, that this is only temporary. No matter 'what' this life brings us, or what WE bring to life, it will continue on, with or without us ~
