View Full Version : Nasa Should skip the moon

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration has picked the wrong destination with the wrong rocket, the panel's chairman Norman Augustine said.

A test-flight version of the rocket, the new Ares I, is awaiting lift-off from Cape Canaveral later this month for its first experimental flight.

But Mr Augustine says Nasa should focus on fresh destinations using different rockets.

It makes more sense to put astronauts on a nearby asteroid or one of the moons orbiting Mars, he said, adding this could be achieved sooner than Nasa's plans to return to the Moon in 15 years.

The committee was created by the White House in May to look at Nasa's troubled exploration, shuttle and space station programmes.

NASA would achieve more if we put John Lear in charge of it.

I find this statement hard to believe. I would think getting to the moon would be easier than mars. Why go to an asteroid.

i'm beginning to think that John's 'we were warned off the moon' schtick might be worth reconsidering.

Send some earth illegal aliens to the moon first. If they are allowed to stay, just like here, we'll know that 'warn off' is BS.

I would think that it would be easier to get back to the moon too. Cost-wise, it would be cheaper on nasa's pocketbook.

Funny how they've been using every excuse in the book NOT to go back.

I'm still floored with the lovely tower pics they took. If this isn't worth investigating, I dunno.

Seriously, check this vid out:

if you read all the predictions from Von Braun Willy Ley......and the hundreds of others in volved in the development of the space program, they all say the same thing.....the moon is the stepping stone......to have a satellite that handy is a huge bonus....to launch for the planets with the advantage of no atmosphere will be a god-send.....and a myriad of other "pluses"

to set up shop on the moon to do this has been an achievable goal for 50 years + .....

so back to the Billion dollar question........why have they not been back? :thegeneral:

I'm with ya, kiwi. We haven't made use of it and developed a workable system of transportation. May be it is too big of a situation to handle at this point in mankind's life.

as i said- maybe John is on to something. i sure can't think of a better reason. can you? on the other hand- all this business of tying ever more sophisticated fire crackers to our asses to get off the planet seems like a loser in the long run.

fair enough HP.....I agree,.. at present our own sand-box requires attention......but I had a quiet inner "scowl" to myself the other day as the fiqures were released on the dollar amount of US "aid" being poured into Southern Afghanistan , millions and millions mate....while hard working tax-paying folk are struggling to keep afloat, foreclosures like fleas on a dog

good luck all

The cold war was much more profitable then moon missions. Until people start looking at who they are voting for in our elections, nothing will change.

When a person like Rush can get rich talking crap and people believe it, there is no hope. Why should the average person get reasonable health care, they are now meaningless in the big picture. There is no one to watch over and stop the looting.

I miss John Lear.

Come back, you beautiful beautiful man who's maybe possibly 10 to 25 percent onto something.

Onto something, but that something turns out way different. That reminds me... I wanna go be entertained by some Project Camelot Bullshit for a while.

Best I can tell the populace has been hood wicked into this mess and nothing is going to change in my life time, at least thru the traditional paths. From what I see of the people in my part of the country, it is a lost cause. All I can do is survive. Motivating people around me to do something is like the proverbial 'fill in some cliche here'.

Want the moon? Convince someone that there is something really valuable there. The haliburtons, exxons, etc. will be there in no time for the harvest.

I think I just puked in my mouth a little when arriving and reading some of the new material...Yeah well- there's that response. On the other hand there's also an essentially decent man publishing the website. I know Bill Ryan well enough to realize that he's also done his share of mouth puking- but that in the interest of open mindedness he puts everything out there. There are some gems in the dross.
