Fuckin FINALLY!
The database has been restored... however, we've been knocked back to 2 am on 30 sept...
Many of the issues that caused the corrupted database backups have been fixed...
I haven't had time to try and get back the Apeci files yet... they are still there, but now that the underlying problem is resolved... It may be something I take a stab at in the future...
Anyway... sorry for the long delay, and the loss of posts for the past week... but hell... a week is better than 2 months right?

Guess I'm glad I have been too busy the last couple of weeks to volunteer for a certain role here.
Anyway, is there a prob with some off the code or templates in the phpBB or the phpBB backup routine itself?
Seems if it were just a mysql dump and load this stuff shouldn't happen as the db would be recreated.

the phpbb backup that comes with the board is fucked up... (only saves about 30 meg of the entire 104 mb database lol)
I think we'll be using sqldump for future backups... gonna put a tutorial in admin panel for the rest of the guys...

That's about what I figured. A good chance it wasn't mysql and it sounded like most of the backup must have been from phpbb. Who only knows what effect adding the various mods people release to the board will have on something like the backup.
I know your pain, been there. Glad you figured it out.

well... it wasn't sql until we tried to restore the DB using the fucked up backup LOL
after that... all hell breaks loose...

Erm... maybe not... Haven't looked into it yet actually...
got pretty burned out yesterday...
I'll look into it... I was going to try and recover some of the apeci threads (I have a mockup of the site, including DB and everything on my PC)
So maybe eventually they'll come back... depends on what all was saved in some of the corrupted backups...

I do not understand this “upgrade” business. Take Lenix Puppy for example. It is so simple it fits on one CD. It works great. Wife bought me an Ipod for Christmas. Apple won’t talk to it because I have to upgrade the operating system. I pay a gazillion bucks for OSX Leopard 10.5. The hard drive is not big enough! WTF?

If I can coax the missing threads out of the void, they probably won't re-synch automatically...
My plan was to try and figure out why they aren't showing... (my guess is possibly the Thread Index or the Thread ID is off)
If thats the case, than I'll have to give the threads I bring back new THread ID's... thus, you'd have to re-subscribe and the likes... also, links/bookmarks to the threads will not work...
but there are a few diff methods I'm looking at to get some of the missing shit back eventually... Its alot of work to crawl through SQL files for individual posts/threads... so once I've nailed the root cause, I'll probably post a global announcement for specific thread recovery requests...
Edit: On second thought, I should be able to use the front end of the board out here to determine the thread ID... the links are still here... I MAY be able to just re-insert em and it might sync...
won't know till I find out the problem...

you are aware of lost, unread PM's too, correct? assuming that (and change in smites, sig files, etc) has to do with getting knocked back to Sep. 30th...
query: what happens if you just fuck with the date? will that dig up / re-synch lost shit?

nah, My restore is different than apeci's...
Mine was a restore from a previous server side SQL file... so we are literally where we were on sep 30...
When apeci's went bonkers... they didn't restore from a server side SQL...
however, I do have SQL files that were backed up from the phpbb ACP... THOSE might contain threads I can pull out as well (for my instance)... Apeci's files are still in the sql from what I saw, meaning they are just orphaned threads... (possibly the thread index doesn't have record of them etc.)
I'm not sure what kind of a recoverability rate I'm going to be able to achieve... but I'm still checking to see what the problem is with the old threads not displaying.

anyone can help us out on that front,if you are able to find certain posts that are missing through google cache we can copy and paste them back into the threads maybe. though they might not be sequential anymore.

That's not a bad idea mojo. It may be a pain, but if you can remember a title of a thread and its not showing up here (or it gives you that can't find post error message) try using this as search criteria:
site:amkon.net (this will search only on amkon) and type in whatever the thread was.
If its cached, the word "cached" will show up under the url. Click on that and whatever google has saved will show up there.

If a member wanders off for a couple of months, it should not be a surprise that scavengers and looters have gone through his stuff. Next time purchase the 'smite lock' policy for peace of mind.
