I only watched the first vid in the op,,, the one with the oh so desperate to save our souls chick... I then posted screen shots from her vid of "the paper" and "the thing", assuming (dumb of me, I know) that you all would see that she's kinda off the deep end.

It's a 25 year old gizmo, nothing new or earth shattering about it. It's a beacon that flashes a (near) infra red light that, if you have the goggles, you can see in day or night for some miles (up to 14 nautical if conditions are good). What made it schmancy at the time was that you can program the thing to make different flash patterns... flash-blank-flash-blank for Fred, flash-flash-blank-flash-flash-blank for Barney,etc. thus "tagging" different units.

It's a "friendly fire" thing, not a "covert" thing... It works Line Of Site, you have to be able to SEE the flashing IR light with the night vision goggles or it's Worthless.

Some folks used them in Alaska for hunting and commercial fishing... so you wouldn't shoot yer buddy or cross lines with your sister ship when trolling... surprised Pack didn't mention that.

from my experience in the manufacturing industry all of our R&D into rfid is purely for security of goods. maybe it could be used for nefarious reasons, but they dont need to go through the difficult process of using rfid on consumers when we already use credit cards, buy online and engage in store promotions. we track ourselves for them already.
all of the rfid research ive been involved in is for one purpose only in our industry and thats 'goods security".
