Waaay back in my misspent youth I used to help organize various fringe conferences for topics that interested me.

Pro-legalization rallies, hacker conventions, research groups, etc...

In my never ending quest to drive traffic away from this site, I'm tossing around the idea of an AmKon sponsored general conspiracy convention.

I'm thinking there should be no major circuit speakers. Presentations should be divided by topic (UFOs, 9/11, Spiritual/Magick, NWO/Illuminati, Hacking, etc) and the mic should be open. If you have material to present, you schedule a time and just step up to the mic and present your material. Anyone and everyone would be welcome to speak on any topic they desire.

A live forum for complete free speech. For one (or two?) weekends a year, you can have your own public soapbox and a captive audience.

Do you think it would have appeal to the general conspiracy community, not just our forum?
Would you be interested in attending something like that?
Would you have information you'd like to present?

pack3tg0st
09-16-2009, 06:09 PM
Would we draw anyone but Amkon members without any "keynote" speakers?

Anyway, if it was in a semi-affordable location, I'd go!

We have enough tech knowledge on this site to stream it live over the net...

could even have "remote" speakers if we put our noggins to it...

record all the talking... host it on a website for viewing at any time...

Hard part is going to be getting people besides amkonites interested.

Cogburn

That's what I was thinking, but if you target your information to groups/places that tend to be ignored you might get a nice eclectic bunch.

I'm talking about folks like Michael Lee Hill, FurryTexan, Candice Freize, AC666, Jackinthebox... Generally nutty theories proposed by folks who are unabashed in their insanity. Folks with fringe-of-fringe theories representing the "cutting edge" of American conspiracy theory but simply can't get anyone to listen.

I'm hoping for to eventually encourage some real gems from folks you've never even heard of before...

EDIT: In my experience it would take a few years of promotion and conferences to get attendance over 20 people. However if you make it entertaining and informative enough word will get around with little effort on your part. As to the location, I was thinking St. Louis.

I think it woudl be great to get Bill irvine up in front of a crowd of rabid amkonites.

Cogburn
09-16-2009, 09:59 PM
Hahaha... Bill doesn't appreciate free speech and lacks the testicular fortitude required to defend his nonsense in an open, public forum where there were no censorship or controls beyond being quiet enough to hear the speaker.

torbjon
09-16-2009, 10:18 PM
and who foots the bill?

Cogburn
09-16-2009, 10:38 PM
I was thinking more like $50 per attendee for the whole weekend, Saturday and Sunday.

Most cheap hotel conference rooms are $500 a day or something like that. 20 people and you're covered.

mojo

i've been thinking of something similar for a while, the 2012 thing in hawaii was a serious suggestion. :)

i think it would be great cog, the first one or two might not garner much more than amkonites but word soon spreads. i like packs idea for the first one to be an electronic convention.
i'd put something together, perhaps my bible is a fraud' or sumerian atlantis theories.

Hmmm...

Next summer perhaps. Gives everyone time to save pennies... planning... promotions...

Lemme work up a few plans and I'll post them here. We'll see how feasible and expensive this little venture could become.

"Lemme work up a few plans and I'll post them here."

ya, please do, 'cause so far what I'm hearin' ain't gonna fly... not a slam, Cog, but like you said, your rallies were 'back in the day'... I'm organizing events here and now, and it's Spendy. The events I'm organizing have big names, in groovy venues, with Booze and bitchin "after event Parties" and it's Still Hard to get folks to part with their moola...

the only incentive I've seen so far for people to shell out money for this event is "open mic night at the looney bin",,, not much of an incentive, really. Not worth my nickel, tha's fer sure.... we can get alla that on the net for free, ya know?

These are Free:

OTHELLO Speaker Series (http://www.labtheater.org/othello_speakers.html)

OTHELLO Artists and Educators Symposium (http://www.labtheater.org/othello_symposium.html)

Barn Series and Live Nude Plays (http://www.labtheater.org/onstage/onstage.html#bs)

This one costs:

LAByrinth's Celebrity Charades, 2009 (http://www.labtheater.org/support/specialevents.html)

OR

shell out bucks to listen to a chat from this charming couple:

http://www.torbtown.com/eshotj.jpg

hmmm... boy.... I dunno.... In a better economy I'd probably shell out the bucks for the pink haired chick, but if I can only afford one? Charades is a better Bang for my buck.... I Know the chicks will be Hot, the booze will be Cool, and the show will be Fun...

look, not wanting to kill the idea,,, but if folks are gonna do it, well,,,, DO IT. Anything lame or half assed just ain't gonna pay for itself...

unless someone knows a deep pocketed Donor / Sponsor?

thats the only thing thats been holding me back from organising something along these lines, plus the fact that a good portion of our members are scattered all over the world.

The southern hemisphere is on a reversed season schedule as compared to the northern hemisphere. I say we have it in Australia or New Zealand for your summer coming up soon. As long as we book our event 1-3 months in advance we'll be in good shape with the pricing.

Cogburn

I think you guys are missing the point.

YOU are the entertainment.

You aren't paying to see speakers... you are paying to have an audience to sit and evaluate your flavor of crazy.

This sounds like a drunk fest with everyone talking for 20 mins a pop on either night.

all said and done in a few hours.

BTW, as a reminder, if you guys plan on doing this in the U.S., make sure you check to make sure you don't need to register as a non-profit org to avoid paying taxes on the donations...

Its gotta be a country with lenient drug laws, so that disqualifies the US.

Someone should start a thread with locations for AmKon 2k10.

Cogburn
09-17-2009, 01:10 AM
St. Louis is the mid-point in the country. That's about as "neck of the woods" as it gets for anybody... except the kiwis and aussies.

There would probably need to be some presentation rules. Not that "required evidence" will be one of them, but you should at least be able to stand up there without wasting everyone's time. This would require submission of your material, either webpage or doc or PPT or something, so we at least know you won't be standing up there going "uh uh uh uh".

You wanna talk for 5 minutes and take questions for 15? Go ahead.

You wanna talk for 20 minutes and take no questions? Fine.

Your information takes an hour to deliver? Umm... it better be good or we're going to give you the gong.

Let's start brainstorming locations.

I mean.. shit... worst case scenario we're paying to sit around and have food fights in person.

Sounds like a great use of $50 to me.

I'm going to start collecting hotels to call tomorrow to see about conference rates.

Too bad we can't guarantee numbers or I'd say let's do it in Vegas....

chicago is closer (by airline)...

Just sayin.
You assume air travel, I was thinking most would come by car. STL can't be more than 8 hours from you. Roll out Friday afternoon, arrive Friday night.

Although given most folks are in the midwest... notables being the Cali-ans and the Colorado Contingent.... Chicago might not be a bad idea, either.

The more I think about this the more it could work.

If just 5 AmKoids show up with manilla folders full of material to discuss, the rest pretty much takes care of itself.

Like I said... it will take one or two years (of plugging the YouTube videos of the discussion) to get a crowd that will BYOC (bring your own conspiracy).

skunk
09-17-2009, 01:37 AM
We don't need a huge crowd. If its just 10-20 of us shooting the shit, getting fucked up and chilling that'll be alright with me.

pack3tg0st
09-17-2009, 01:40 AM
Another thing to think of cog:

I brew my own beer...

and I have 3 corney kegs I could fill

Even if no one else but the 5 or 6 of us show up...

we'll have a room to party in for a few days lol

skunk
09-17-2009, 01:44 AM
I wouldn't want to spend the entire time boozing it up in the hotel. We'd need a venue to see live music and cause some mayhem on the streets.

What fun would it be if we didn't get arrested or in the very least fined?

pack3tg0st
09-17-2009, 01:45 AM

Also... I know one or two good nationally known "fringe" bands which I guarantee everyone will enjoy. Perhaps my band, as well...

The Psychodelic Spiral!!!

...with opener, Sting.

"Oh, halloo, I'm Sting.... Do you want to know how long I can f**k you for before I change into Buddha and then go buy a porsche?"

What is there to do in Asheville? (http://www.exploreasheville.com/what-to-do/index.aspx)

Asheville city government (http://www.ashevillenc.gov/)

Asheville on wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asheville,_North_Carolina)

I don't know what time of the year everyone had in mind, but there's a huge festival called Bele Chere (http://www.belecherefestival.com/pages/events_home.htm) which lasts 3 days and takes over downtown the last weekend of July.

Bele Chere PDF FAQ (http://www.belecherefestival.com/downloads/BCWebFAQs.pdf)

Haha, this map shows a possible outcome for this year's medical cannabis bills currently in state legislatures. Blue states already have law in place of some sort, the red states are being debated now.

[spoiler:gm2cdg0o][attachment=0:gm2cdg0o]mmjlaws.png[/attachment:gm2cdg0o][/spoiler:gm2cdg0o]

This country is going to be a much different place in a year or two...If all of those bills go through, more than half the states would have enacted some form of medical cannabis law. 2/3rds majority would pretty much change federal law.

My point is, if the law here in NC gets passed, it takes effect December 1st, 2009...Partay is in 2010. By then there would be at least one dispensary in the state open and the bill allows patients to grow it themselves, with patient immunity from prosecution written directly into the bill.

True... but as long as you bring your own bottled liquor it's not so bad, actually. When we were there in June I think an entire week only cost $2500, and that was with a suite at the Venetian and getting drunk at the hotel bar (which was fucking awesome!) every night.

Unless someone has actually filed charges against you, by name, you're golden. That doesn't even begin to cover the fact that they have to prove that you are indeed that person.

Relax.

In California, there are pending charges... In Oklahoma, its the same, only that was back in 2002... so I'm golden there (i think)

Vegas is a little weirder... I was a little dickhead in front of the judge and should have contempt charges against me by now...

yah...

my whole "burn it down" "destroy the status quo" type thinking tends to get me in shit sometimes :P

I know it sounds like I'm a felon or something... but its not really as bad as it sounds...

Nothing violent, lurid etc... no innocents were harmed in the making of this movie...

I'm sure if it was serious enough, they would have michigan come get me, and extradite... same when I was in alaska...

They're probably not looking for me I wouldn't think... but if I get so much as pulled over for speeding... well... thats a diff story...

edit: Although, if they figured out who I was, and who i'm affiliated with electronically... that might lead to some federal stuff... so I guess CA and NV aren't the most of my worries lol

If it's been before a judge it should be a matter of public record.

Most county clerks are online nowadays, including Henderson, NV (http://courtgate.coca.co.clark.nv.us:8490/DistrictCourt/asp/DayOptions.asp).

Check that system and the system for the clerk of courts for the county in California.

I'm assuming it was a misdemeanor or they would have come after you; felons get more love. Statutes on most misdemeanors expire in 2-3 years.

Current dispositions are available.

If the last place the case was left was the issuance of a bench warrant, it will be there.

But again, bench warrants are usually only good for 18 months.

Cogburn

Back to the topic at hand...

I've sent a request to the Vegas Convention and Tourism folks to see what kind of pricing would be available for conventions on Fremont St. It's less expensive than being on the strip by about 50%. We'll see what they come back with.

I'll also do the same for Honolulu, Chicago and Los Angeles, since that rounds out the top four location choices.

Cogburn
09-17-2009, 04:39 PM
.... even the Holiday Inn in Waikiki is $122/night.

Fuck that. If we're gonna spend that much per night I'd rather do it in Vegas where I can at least have my choice from 10,000 strippers.

Cogburn
09-17-2009, 04:41 PM
LA and Chicago are pretty much no brainers: both have a wide range of hotel and convention facilities from $50/night at a HoJo to five star.

It's pretty much a buyers market in those two cities.

San Diego isn't a bad choice. We could plan on a TJ invasion Saturday night...

5 hour drive for me as opposed to 1.5 hours, Goos and Royal are already there.

Legal weed, strippers, Tijuana, beaches, night life, 3 AmKoids in proximity, minimal connections from Oz...

We may have a winner.

HI is a nice destination, but that probably puts it out of the price range for the majority of our users... much less the general public.

I don't expect the turnout to be huge for non-regular/old posters. AmKon is still pretty new and almost everybody knows everybody. There might be a few randoms here and there that show up if we decide to make it open to the public. For the most part it'll be people you are familiar with.

lala, since the majority of amkon's membership resides in the US, it makes the most sense to have it here. It kind of sucks that puts limits on our international members, but either way there are going to be some people who won't be able to come.

Does everybody drink? I prefer pubs to clubs personally. Never really got into the coke scene either, probably a big reason why. I've also had a significant other since I've been legal, which had kept me for getting desperate for pussy and going clubbin.

i'm happy as long as the beers cold, the women hot, and the coversation tepid.

I'm thinking close to Venice Beach, actually. Tons of shit to do, tons of pre-existing freaky people, and cheap ass hotels.

I’ve had the sail boat that I have lived on for years within walking distance of Venice beach for years. My second home. Boat is 38 feet, so I could take a bunch out for a sail. And then there is Hananos. Best burgers in California.

agreed......California, wagons fuckin Ho!!!.........maybe we all flick Johnny an e-mail....not doubt he will be truly touched by the out-pouring of affection...flying the ribs and piss in by Lear jet would be kinda cool

I loved Cali...not so much LA, San Diego was a neat place also...we could jump the fence at the S.E.A.L base and have a group swim, its right on the main highway, liberate a couple of thousand rubber ducks in their private lake

Im sure they would see the funny side

[offsite:1l6rfxcp]CIA Assassin test
The CIA had an opening for an assassin. After all the background checks, interviews, and testing were done, there were three finalists. two men and a woman.
For the final test, the CIA agents took one of the men to a large metal door and handed him a gun. "We must know that you will follow our instructions, no matter what the circumstances. Inside this room, you will find your wife sitting in a chair. Kill Her!!!"
The man said, "You can't be serious. I could never shoot my wife." The agent said, "Then you're not the right man for this job. Take your wife and go home."
The second man was given the same instructions. He took the gun and went into the room. All was quiet for about five minutes. Then the man came out with tears in his eyes. "I tried, but I can't kill my wife." The agent said, "You don't have what it takes. Take your wife and go home."
Finally, it was the woman's turn. She was given the same instructions, to kill her husband. She took the gun and went into the room. Shots were heard, one shot after another. They heard screaming, crashing, banging on the walls. After a few minutes, all was quiet. The door opened slowly and there stood the woman. She wiped the sweat from her brow. "This gun is loaded with blanks", she said. "I had to beat him to death with the chair."[/offsite:1l6rfxcp]

I vote Chi-Town only because it is closer to the middle of the country and it would be like meeting half way for most of us. I am on east coast so flying to Cali is expensive. Flying from Cali to east coast is costly too, so to be fair, I vote Cheecago mang!!!

Folks, if you want to save money on the trip and you live in the US, carpool. I don't think I'll be flying no matter where we go, I get really paranoid on planes.

Who needs a ride in the southeast?

Cogburn
09-21-2009, 05:32 AM
LOL damn skunk.. read my mind.

I was thinking that we should have a few caravans from different parts of the country. That way gas and hotel rooms for the trip could be split and make the trip cheaper for everyone.

We'll have the various caravans meet up somewhere central... assuming LA then say St. Louis (Cincinnati is another option)... and all travel together from that point on. St. Louis to Venice Beach is 27 hours. (http://www.mapquest.com/maps?1c=Saint+Louis&1s=MO&1y=US&1l=38.627201&1g=-90.1978&1v=CITY&2c=Venice+Beach+Boardwalk&2s=CA&2y=US&2l=33.984699&2g=-118.471802&2v=CITY) With a driving rotation you don't even have to stop but to eat and piss.

Chicago to St. Louis: 5 hours. (http://www.mapquest.com/maps?1c=Chicago&1s=IL&2c=St.+Louis&2s=MO)
Asheville to St. Louis: 9 hours. (http://www.mapquest.com/maps?1c=Asheville&1s=NC&1y=US&1l=35.6008&1g=-82.554199&1v=CITY&2c=St.+Louis&2s=MO)
New York to St. Louis:16 hours. (http://www.mapquest.com/maps?1c=New+York+City&1s=NY&2c=St.+Louis&2s=MO) (might want to link up with the Asheville caravan at some point)

Someone needs to be the photographer/blogger for each caravan. That shit is gonna be epic.

Woo Hoo!

Ill drive to Chicago, but fly to So-Cal.

If anyone in my area , including NY NJ PA DE wants to carpool to Chi im down, hit me up somehow.

Ill take my truck, but it gets about 14mpg hiway.

Im not against it, its comfy and roomy just gonna costa us all a bit more.

Other choice is the mustang wich we will all need back sutrgery after.

My girls civic gets about 30mpg, thats also an option but a bit smaller.

if its chicago, I'm only 3 hours away, so I"ll drive...

If its in cali, I have a warrant... so I'm not sure if I should go

If I do go to cali though, it's by plane...

It'll take some 34 hours to drive there from here.

guinnessford
09-21-2009, 12:32 PM
I wouldnt worry bout the warrant.

Unless it is for homicide, or some capital crime where your pic is up in the post offices.

Too many other criminals that reside there that have outstanding body attachments for you to get picked up.

Unless of course, the ol Amkon bar fight breaks out.....
