View Full Version : Northern Territory UFO's.
while i was in alice springs last week had a chat with an old family friend who has worked up in the bush his whole life. the conversation got around to ufo's at some stage during the night and he mentioned that he'd seen some unusual lights at a place called Fogg Dam a few years back.
he's a pretty down to earth sort of bloke and didn't claim that they were aliens or secret aircraft, just that they were unusual and definately not meteors, when youve lived in the bush all your life you tend to know what meteor shpowers and the like look like.
there's a number of reasonably well known sites for seeing UFO's in the territory but i'd never heard of any sightings at Fogg dam before.
Fogg dam is on the way to Kakadu, its fairly isolated.
anyway here's some info on Fogg Dam.

http://www.nt.gov.au/nreta/parks/find/foggdam.html
its odd that i didnt find any articles on strange sightings at fogg dam, ross said it's quite well known by the locals of a number of sightings over the past few years.
here's a photo of some lights near Palmerston, this is unrelated to my friends fogg dam sighting but i found it during a search and thought it was interesting.

great post, I'll be into it tonight :)
bit late getting back  ...
still working on some stuff from the NT, by which I mean typing, but thought I might throw a couple of better known Aus ufo dramas up, I remember seeing the news clip the night this below took place......(alledged 8) )
http://www.strangedayz.co.uk/2007/09/ufos-on-nullarbor-plain.html
[offsite:1fq6aibp]The Nullarbor Plain lies immediately north of the Great Australian Bight. It stretches a distance of some 1,200 km, running east to west between South Australia and Western Australia. A vast area of flat, almost treeless, arid or semi-arid terrain, Nullarbor is the world's largest continuous expanse of limestone, covering approximately 200,000 km² (77,200 square miles). The name Nullarbor derives from two Latin words: nullus (nothing or no-one) and arbor (tree).
mundrabilla1.jpg[/attachment:1fq6aibp]
Despite its size and relative isolation, Nullarbor is traversed by some excellent roads, most notably the Eyre Highway, which contains the world's longest straight stretch of road. For many Australians, crossing the Nullarbor is an essential rite of passage, but it can be hazardous. Many abandoned or wrecked vehicles line its highways. But many people believe the Nullarbor hides a far more sinister danger. The area has been the source of many terrifying UFO encounters over the years.[/offsite:1fq6aibp]
[offsite:1fq6aibp]The best known UFO case to emanate from the Nullarbor, took place along the Eyre Highway, on January 20, 1988. The Knowles family, set off from Perth, Western Australia, in their1984 blue Ford Telstar, towards Melbourne. Their route took them across the Nullarbor. The family consisted of Faye Knowles and her adult sons Patrick (24), Sean (21) and Wayne (18). They were accompanied by their two dogs.
familleknowles.jpg[/attachment:1fq6aibp]
At around 4 AM, Sean was at the wheel, with Patrick in the front passenger seat. Their location was somewhere between Madura and Mundrabilla, when they spotted a bright light on the road ahead of them. At first, they assumed it was a truck, but were intrigued when the light started to jump around, disappeared and then reappeared, seeming much larger and closer. Sean accelerated to get a closer look at the light's source. As they closed in on the source, it disappeared again. Suddenly, it was behind them. Sean accelerated to get away, but almost immediately, it jumped in front of them.
Now just twenty metres or so away, it emitted a blinding, white light, which had a yellow centre. They couldn't say for sure if the metre-wide, oval object was on the ground, or hovering just above it. Sean performed a u-turn and sped away from the object. He later switched back to their original direction of travel, in an attempt to shake it off. He swerved the car violently when the object approached them, almost colliding with a car coming the other way, towing a caravan. It is unknown if the occupants of the second car saw the object, as they never came forward.
The Knowles family were horrified when they heard a heavy clunking noise, as if something had landed on the roof of the car. The terrified family were later very confused as to the exact sequence of events, from the time they believed the craft landed on their roof. Mrs Knowles wound down her window and placed her hand on the roof of the car. She touched something warm, rubbery and spongy, and immediately retracted her hand, which felt hot and was covered in black dust. A grey-black mist invaded the car through the open window. The mist had a foul stench, which reminded them of dead bodies. They then heard a peculiar, high-pitched sound which made the dogs very agitated. The whole family suffered complete disorientation and claimed that their voices lowered in pitch and their speech slowed down.
At this point, they descended into total hysteria, believing they were about to die. They were also convinced that the object lifted the car into the air and carried it for a short time. As this happened, Patrick stated he felt as if his ‘brain was being sucked out’. Mrs Knowles said it was like something ‘going into our heads’. Shortly afterwards, the car was apparently hurled down onto the road. The rear right tyre exploded on impact. Sean braked hard and briefly blacked out. When he recovered, they baled out of the car, sped into some nearby bushes and hid.
The object hovered around their car for a short while, before departing. They hid for around 15 minutes or so, before changing the tyre in record time, and speeding off to a hotel in the nearby town of Mundrabilla.
At the hotel, they met a truck driver named Graham Henley, who had also seen a strange, illuminated object in his rear view mirror, at the same time and in the same location, as their encounter. Two more witnesses also came forward to say they had passed the object. Mr. Henley inspected the interior and exterior of the Knowles' car, and saw black dust in both locations, as well as four indentations in the roof. He said the dust had a burnt smell to it.
Returning to the scene of the incident shortly afterwards, he discovered footprints, skid marks and a discarded tyre, which he took as confirmation of the Knowles family's account. Police officers who interviewed the family confirmed they were badly shaken. The officers also attested to the presence of the dust, and the dents in the roof. Upon subsequent analysis, the dust was found to contain nothing unusual or alien.
So what did happen on the Nullarbor that night? At least seven witnesses stated they had seen an anomalous object of some kind. The occupants of the car towing the caravan must have seen it, too. Maybe it was merely a freak weather condition that scared the Knowles family so much, some kind of tornado or vortex. Something clearly happened, but it is impossible to prove, one way or another, whether or not the family really was attacked by a UFO. Part 2 of this article, coming soon, will review the evidence collected by researchers working on the Knowles family case, whereas Part 3 will tell of other paranormal events experienced by travellers crossing the Nullarbor.[/offsite:1fq6aibp]

....same source as above
[offsite:3bte5zq4]It subsequently emerged that the same or a similar object, was witnessed by some tuna fishermen, fifty miles away in the Great Australian Bight. They claimed a UFO buzzed their boat, and that the whole crew suffered the same kind of voice distortion that the Knowles family reported.
Aware of the experience of the tuna fishermen, Sgt. Furnell stressed that there was no way for the fishermen to know about the Knowles family's encounter, half an hour earlier, and some fifty miles away. The Royal Australian Air Force at Edinburgh, South Australia, was adamant that it had no aircraft in the region at the time, to account for the sightings.[/offsite:3bte5zq4]
yeah i remember that incident, id only moved to SA the year before and it was in the news for a fair while.
as far as i know their account was never contradicted.

the de-bunk never came to much, I'll post it later.....
just had a mate drop by on his way to sea, he's an ex-pat Cornishman (in his early 60's now) who I fished with with for 2 years ....he would give me shit about my Aliens, UFO's and the such-like,.....the hardcase thing is that while working out of Darwin on the prawn-boats during the 70's-80's he had 3 experiences which I rate right up there, 2 of them real freaky........Ive known of this about a year now and been meaning to ask if was ok I relate it on one my threads, because it will need names dates locations etc......he has said ok and is happy to let me record the details (Iwill get it all on tape)
just one of the many occasions where some excellant material has never made it public.....
I'll chuck another one up that I have always thought has merit, the type of witness is as important as the event itself I think
the clip is marked Melbourne.....the event took place on the NSW coast, round Gosford, its another event I recall happening, again it was all over the news down here.....the graphics of course are just that, made from the eye-witness accounts....

How can anyone deny the reality of UfOs after viewing this? These are very obviously credible witnesses to a high strange visitation.

Who still denies the existence of UFOs?
this is from Melbourne 1966, one that would have been posted much later as I was gonna have to type it from a book.......checking on some dates I found the whole affair on wikipedia!.......bonus!
here it goes..... The Westall UFO :alien:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westall_UFO
[offsite:223f8pxi]The Westall UFO encounter is an event claimed to have occurred on 6 April 1966 in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Around 11.00 am, for about 20 minutes, more than 200 students and teachers at two Victorian state schools allegedly witnessed an unexplained flying object that descended into a nearby open wild grass field. The paddock was adjacent to a grove of pine trees in an area known as The Grange (now a nature reserve). The object then ascended in a north-westerly direction over the suburb of Clayton South, Victoria, Australia[/offsite:223f8pxi]
DESCRIPTION
[offsite:223f8pxi]At approximately 11.00 am on Wednesday, 6 April 1966, a class of students and a teacher from Westall High School (now Westall Secondary College) were just completing sports on the main oval when an object, described as being a grey saucer shaped craft, with a slight purple hue and being about twice the size of a family car, was sighted. Witness descriptions were mixed: Andrew Greenwood, a science teacher, told "The Dandenong Journal" at the time that he saw a silvery-green disc. According to witnesses the object was descending and then crossed and overflew the high school's south-west corner, going in a south-easterly direction, before disappearing from sight as it descended behind a stand of trees and into a paddock at The Grange in front of the Westall State School (primary students). After a short period (approximately 20 minutes) the object - with witnesses now numbering over 200 - then climbed at speed and departed towards the north-west. As the object gained altitude some accounts describe it as having been pursued from the scene by five unidentified aircraft which circled the object.[4][5]
On Sunday, 9 April, the scene was investigated by uniformed men - thought to have been from the Australian Army and RAAF. The local police also visited the location. Witnesses report that samples were taken and the landing site was then burnt. However, some report that the grass was burnt by the farmer who owned the land to stop the children from entering his property. Several of the witnesses report that they were questioned by the authorities or warned against speaking out about what they had seen. The school headmaster, Frank Samblebe, also prohibited discussion of the event.[6] No record of this encounter was preserved in the National Archives of Australia or in the Army or RAAF files. Although government reports are held by some researchers, to date they have never been released.[/offsite:223f8pxi]
THE MEDIA
[offsite:223f8pxi]The Dandenong Journal" covered the encounter in detail and ran two front page stories (see images). The first was on 14 April[7] and the next was on 21 April.[8].
"The Age" ran a very small article about the Westall incident on Thursday, 7 April 1966, page 6.
[spoiler:223f8pxi]The_Dandenong_Journal_-_1966_21th_Apr_-_page_1.jpg[/attachment:223f8pxi][/spoiler:223f8pxi]
"OBJECT PERHAPS BALLOON - An unidentified flying object seen over the Clayton-Moorabbin area yesterday morning might have been a weather balloon. Hundreds of children and a number of teachers at Westall School, Clayton, watched the object during morning break. They said a number of small aeroplanes circled around it. However, a check later showed that no commercial, private or RAAF pilots had reported anything unusual in the area. The Weather Bureau released a balloon at Laverton at 8:30 a.m., and the westerly wind blowing at the time could have moved it into the area where the sighting was reported".[9] Witnesses and researchers were surprised when "The Sun News-Pictorial" (a tabloid) ran no story, yet "The Age" (a broadsheet) did.
445px-The_Dandenong_Journal_-_1966_14th_Apr_-_page_1.jpg[/attachment:223f8pxi]
"The Sun" and "The Herald" newspapers, whilst not mentioning the Westall incident, both published cartoons in the following day's editions that made light of the flying saucer phenomena.
GTV Channel 9 television also ran a news report about the encounter. A student, Joy Tighe, described the event for the reporter. However, a copy of this tape is not available. Channel 9 reports that it was removed from their archive and not returned.[/offsite:223f8pxi]
UNOFFICIAL INVESTIGATION
[offsite:223f8pxi]The sighting was investigated by two groups: The Victorian Flying Saucer Research Society (VFSRS)[10][11] and Phenomena Research Australia (PRA)[12][13]. Both groups described it as being one of Australia's major unexplained UFO cases. The VFSRS team arrived on the site on 8 April and spoke to students and viewed the ground mark. The VFSRS printed an image and a small report in their magazine "Australian UFO Bulletin" in December 2000. An investigator, Brian Boyle (PRA), arrived at the site on 9 April with four army investigators. . Boyle did a number of interviews (reel tape) over a number of days and took samples from the ground mark.[14] These investigators were able to speak to many of the witnesses as it was over the Easter holidays (8-11 April).[/offsite:223f8pxi]
CONVENTIONAL
[offsite:223f8pxi]Although some witnesses reported five Cessna-type aircraft around the object, investigators were unable to find any record of such aircraft. Moorabbin Airport, which is 4.76 km (south-west) from the location, was checked but no aircraft from that airport entered the airspace. The RAAF also reported no military activity in that area.
477px-The_Dandenong_Journal_-_1966_21th_Apr_-_page_2.jpg[/attachment:223f8pxi]
Australian Skeptics described the object as potentially having been an experimental military aircraft.[17][/offsite:223f8pxi]

the US has very close ties with the Aust Defence forces......(I would like to hear from Pac about what he may or may not know of the high-tech radar chain that stretches across the top of Aus, its a joint US /Aus affair)
I have dozens of reports from various sources, my books mostly, ...that Im fairly sure have not been thrashed to death on the net....Im gonna put them all on this thread(eventually  ).....seems a better idea than having a seperate place for each incident,......and glad to see you made it home :thumleft:
this a great book,[spoiler:8i6w2fev]september 13-14 011.jpg[/attachment:8i6w2fev][/spoiler:8i6w2fev] I have 2 copies and intended to take one to Aus and give to Mojo....if you want it man slip an addy in a pm, I'll post it, the cover shot was taken over Perth WA, in 1964........

......Later in the year the US Defence Dept asked for details of a flying saucer sighting over Perth. Night photographs were taken of the object by Sydney manufacturer Mr L. Benedek, who was visiting Perth on buisness. The Pentagon sent him a questionaire requesting more information.Copies of the photographs were made by the R.A.A.F and lodged with the Dept of air.
Interest in the object followed publication of the photographs in Life International magazine....etc
this is a handy ref for anyone interested in sightings, in general

i,m going back up to the Alice at the end of november, i'll see if my mate has any other information on the Fogg dam ufo's.
KIWI, there's a heap of AUS/US joint military and intelligence stuff going on in the NT, at Pine Gap, katherine and out in some even more remote area's, wouldn't be surprised if many of the sightings aren't somehow related.

.
nice one.....that book covers the 50's through to the early 70's.....love that old data, handy to be familiar with the older reports as it makes for interesting correlations with the newer stuff, my eye often gets caught by a normally otherwise non-spectacular modern sighting when I have historical info from the same area
I was caught smack in the middle of an event a couple of years ago up on the North-West shelf.....I know I didnt imagine it because their were 800 others there at the time, and at least half, probably more like 3/4's , of the others heard it too :smokin:

careful, Chorlton will start up if you "dis" pine-gap
I have some good stuff regards the mil bases and US involvement , .....christ, here we go again...where the hell have I put it

Tim Good covers this in a couple of his books including "Above Top Secret." Everyone should read Tim's books.
Tim Good covers this in a couple of his books including "Above Top Secret." Everyone should read Tim's books.
yeah, its a big industry, but a lot of the material simply gets turned over again, Nick Redfern produces a good read also but insists on his dust jacket photo being shot with deliberate staging of light and shadow to give himself that "man-of-mystery" look.Cheap circus trick
not required imo, the content should stand on its own. I have not seen in depth the de-bunk of "The Warminster Thing" A Shuttleworth......but have read the original story, these days it seems if people come across the so called "successful" de-bunking of an historic event, they more often than not never go and read the original, thats a shame, there are little gems to be found in most
For me one of the best ever from the UK was the incident(s) in the Welsh mountains, I think both Redfern and Good have covered that one, as well as lots of others,......the testimony of the witnesses there is very high qual....Berwyn mountains?
