The NATURE of Thought

I don't want to assume that you ALL have seen the movie: "Minority Report". It's been out for a number of years now.

Now...

Here's a few individuals discussing this:

I've often wondered just how close we 'hit to the bone' with these flicks?

Is it possible that we have the means (at present?) with which to moniter people's thoughts?

Does H.A.R.R.P. or E.L.F. have this capacity right now?

I doubt it...

We can barely build a better lie detector...

let alone even understand where consciousness begins...

In the first 3 minutes of video two, I learnt my ex-girlfriend is officially a psychopath...

... It's fair enough.

Considering the guy that wrote it (PKD) had absolutly no friggin clue what was going on in his own mind most of the time and even with the premis that life imitates art. We are 30ish years past the point of it being written and I don't think we are anywhere close to that level of brain understanding.

Maybe someday in the future, reading intent from brain waves may be possible.

science fiction as an art form has always had some kind of prescience or ability to predict imo, cyrano de bergerac wrote about flights to the moon and the sun in the 1600's, hell lets go even further back to some of the ancient mythology's that describe various creation history's of the different cultures, some of those mythology's would be bestsellers in the science fiction market if they'd been written by asimov or heinlein. :)
there are numerous instances of science fiction author's predicting future events, but imo it has more to do with the fact that most of these authors have a scientific background in many instances which means they are generally up to date on the latest advances in those fields.

Kinda like perfume (which should'nt precede a woman into the room)

How far DO our thoughts carry us?

I'd like to comment:

I doubt anyone could ever physically read our thoughts note per note

Instruments might be able to approximate the emotional nature of the thought and even certain elements based data collected and stored about individual objects or situations which could be possibly used as like an auto-filter or something... but each thought and perspective is so full of uniquely original viewpoints that not even lets say an apple could be categorized as producing one static mental frequency in everyone... Which basically means that the most instruments could ever do would be to read most people's generic thoughts on generic subjects. Might be helpful for petty crimes. Most people don't commit crimes of passion. Most people don't plan elaborate heists. Yada yada.

If you add the psychic element, or telepathy and clairvoyancy... so far, none of those methods have been proven reliable for anything other than generic details.

They may, however, be in league with certain "other" forces who live in the realms where thought meets beyond..... I definitely do not doubt anymore that there could be "astral" elements that coud be tapped into by either individual or group ritual evocation or invocation.

That is a big risk, though. Big risk, and full of loose ends...

In the end, I'm not aware of what the full capacity of high ranking magi would or could be in his day and age.

I think it be hard to do as most peoples thoughts change as they mature and grow . . . look at the big picture how many people even know their own mind . . . .let alone someone thinking they know how to read thoughts . . . :smokin:
