[offsite:20047nat]The United Arab Emirates has seized a ship secretly carrying embargoed North Korean arms to Iran, say diplomats.

The interception comes at a sensitive time. North Korea has invited the US for bilateral talks on nuclear issues and the UN Security Council’s western members are pressing for greater Iranian co-operation over its nuclear programme[/offsite:20047nat]

[offsite:20047nat]Diplomats said the vessel was still being held in the UAE, where the authorities are understood to have found various forms of basic weaponry, including rocket-propelled grenades, which had been labelled as machine parts. It was up to the UAE to dispose of the cargo of weapons found on board and no further action by the committee was required, they said.

The UN resolution, adopted following North Korea’s second nuclear test in May, extended an existing ban on the transfer of heavy weapons and nuclear and missile-related technology to cover all arms exports by Pyongyang.[/offsite:20047nat]

[offsite:2avqs2if]Aug. 28 (Bloomberg) -- The United Arab Emirates has seized a ship carrying North Korean-manufactured munitions, detonators, explosives and rocket-propelled grenades bound for Iran in violation of United Nations sanctions, diplomats said.

The UAE two weeks ago notified the UN Security Council of the seizure, according to the diplomats, who spoke on condition they aren’t named because the communication hasn’t been made public. They said the ship, owned by an Australian subsidiary of a French company and sailing under a Bahamian flag, was carrying 10 containers of arms disguised as oil equipment[/offsite:2avqs2if]

[offsite:2aoxkv8a]The weapons seized on Aug. 14 included rocket launchers, detonators, munitions and ammunition for rocket-propelled grenades, they said. The ship, called the ANL-Australia, was Australian-owned and flying a Bahamas flag.

Diplomats said the UAE reported the incident, which occurred two weeks ago, to the Security Council sanctions committee on North Korea. The committee sent letters to Tehran and Pyongyang on Aug. 25 informing them of the seizure and demanding a response within 15 days.

"Based on past experience ... we don't expect a very detailed response," one of the diplomats said on condition of anonymity.[/offsite:2aoxkv8a]

Yo, its Dick Cheney on the MIC
Remindin you that the bad guys are getting stronger daily
He don't just sell oil and guns
Dick likes to make sure the terrorists get funds
But they're all out to get us, didn't you hear?
It's time we all embraced government-brand fear
So sign up and help fight evil Islam
And ignore claims that Sarah Palin's a man

Damn, I should be a rap star...

Maybe Cheney needs his own 'charlie wilson's war'-type movie to stir up support for carpet bombing iran. And we're just stupid enough for it to work.
