A bit of background history:

[offsite:2lip1zaa]Donna and Ross Sowerby had set up a security camera after a bike went missing from their property recently. But instead of catching the possible culprits, the sceptics believe they've captured something much more obscure.

When Ross returned from work on Wednesday evening, the couple sat down to watch the 40-minute video and were more than surprised by what they saw about 25 seconds in.

"I said 'did you see that?' because I wasn't sure if it was just me," said Ross.

"I was sort of expecting to see nothing."

An orange coloured blurry ball came into view and made its way across the screen and was out of sight 30 seconds later.

"You're going to think we're crazy but I think it's a cat," said Donna.

"You can see its legs."

A ginger moggy that belonged to a neighbour was hit by a car a few months ago.

"It used to walk around out there like that."[/offsite:2lip1zaa]

I tried to find the youtube portion, but it was no go.

Read the rest of the story and *WATCH THE CLIP HERE* (http://www.stuff.co.nz/oddstuff/2563071/Is-there-a-ghost-cat-in-Taranaki)

Keep in mind, the surrounding objects in the pic are in focus; even to the point of a real cat sauntering by.

Only the ghost kitty is out of focus

Would help to see the camera/housing/lens system.

The moving object is probably small and very close to the camera, why else would it be out of focus?

A bug, fluff, or a bit of plastic bag tickled and brought to life by the breeze, captured by static cling to a clear cover over the lens?

Reminds one of the blue ghost (http://hitsusa.com/blog/320/blue-ghost-gas-station-video/) in the gas station video a while back.

To think a bit of blue plastic bag or something, and a business owner with a flare for self-promotion caused such a stir...

my gripe with stuff like this is that I can never find (or they never provide) the RAW FOOTAGE for us numbnuts to play with.

compressed flash flicks... blah.

I'm w/ Gocs... that looks like a mite or flea or some such crawling across the camera.

The fact that it seemingly follows the objects on the ground is what makes this seem ethereal.

Focus on the blur and not the background. Is it moving in three dimensions or only two? It's size should change due to perspective as it moves "up" if it's moving in 3 dimensions...

That is, of course, assuming that a "spirit" is a three dimensional thingy...

Could the wee bit of fluff on the camera lens have come from the ginger moggy?

And if having said that three times quick would your head turn rank and soggy?
