lex:

If you listen to her speech, it sounds hurried, not well thought out, and nervous...

She's backing out before the hammer falls IMHO...

Just wondering...

Guess she wants to be president. Of course quitting an office early without an election to run for at the time shows she shouldn't seek or hold that office, IMO. Quitter. Has she been seen in South America Lately?

Follow me for a second...

Remember back in the middle of the campaign she was involved in her own version of TrooperGate? That story created a watershed of reporting on the minutia of her administration, the Good Ol' Boy system of politics in Alaska, and personal abuses of power. Palin has been making noise on a host of stupid issues keeping herself in the headlines for the past 3 months.

Now at the same time, the GOP has been in the throws of both an ideological and a power vacuum.

The way I see it, you have 4 camps...

The Limbaugh Camp, which are middle class folks with a basic understanding of society and a bent towards "the good old days".
The Palin Camp, which are the salivating, mouth-breathing, populist morons with a Bible in one hand and a noose in the other (for anyone that doesn't agree with the Bible).
The Status Quo Camp, which are the ones that elected a party leader via the party rules and that is the leader of the party, period. Unfortunately that leader is an ill-spoken moron with the political acumen of a public school 6th grader.... but at least he's black, right?
Then there's Everyone Else, which are the silent majority and have been leaving the party in droves since the primaries last year.

The camps are at war... and Palin just lost... big time. Someone finally appeared that have enough leverage to squelch the power lent to her via her populist appeal.

I'm gonna guess that some GOP insider from one of the other 2 camps managed to beat the press to the real story up there in Alaska and used it to force her out of the picture, permanently.

I bet in the next six weeks we'll see a shift of power within the GOP that will indicate from where it came from, if not the individual itself.

But then, that's not to rule out The Prophet of Doom, Rohm Emmanuel. There's just a little bit to this story that somehow makes me think that this was a group effort to slay a common enemy... and maybe exact a little revenge for the campaign...

If you're gonna piss off that many people in positions of power, you need a little more protection than some Christian witchcraft cleansing ritual.

Well, Cog, guess will see. Interesting take that is high level politics, but the pruning not promoting.

Looking at it as one long story, beginning from the moment she accepted the VP nomination last year, it kinda reads like someone just slayed a dragon.

I dunno cog... some strategists are saying that it could be a brilliant move...

However, there is speculation this isn't about Palin 2012... But Senator Palin 2010.. which IMHO would be a much more likely scenario...

She knows she's not ready for the big times yet... that was shown in the last election cycle... BUT, she could very easily run for Senate next year...

Why drop out of the Governorship? That one is easy... Ever since the VP nomination, every time she farts is a national news story...

So, she drops out of politics... and for the most part, out of the news... lets things simmer and calm down for a few months... then announces her intention to run for the Senate.

Either that, or someone found some dirt on her, or some huge scandal is about to break loose...

The flaw in your thinking cog is the Idea that the Limbaugh's and the Palinheads are on two different sides... They aren't. Limbaugh thinks Palin is gods gift to politics. He can't shut up about how awesome she is... Thus, The ditto heads love her...

Without Limbaugh, I think Palin's influence would have wained on November 5th.

Voting for Palin for senate is almost a good of move as California thinking of spending money for a Michael Jackson showing while writing IOUs to everyone else.

LOL not saying its a good idea...

But she'll get further going for senate than she ever will going for president...

Hell, I doubt she can make it out of primaries for prez.

My guess is she just got sick of the bullshit, took the advance from her book deal, and said fuck it. Personally I don't fucking blame her. But if you think there is a bigger story to it all you may be right, you may be wrong. I know this though, there are waaaaay too many people that would love to air the dirty laundry on that bitch and there's no way she's smart enough to beat them to it. IMHO, I don't think this is pre-packaged damage control, I think she's grabbing the private sector money and running.

Fair enough. I draw the distinction because I know of more than a few dittoheads that were appalled at the behavior of some of the GOP faithful during the campaign.

Perhaps it's more accurate to say that Limbaugh's camp subsumes Palin's camp, but Palin's folks are so radical that I'm not sure the dittoheads would own up to them in another general election.

Maureen Dowd: inimitable...

Sarah Palin showed on Friday that in one respect at least, she is qualified to be president.

Caribou Barbie is one nutty puppy.

Usually we don’t find that exquisite battiness in our leaders until they’ve been battered by sordid scandals like Watergate (Nixon), gnawing problems like Vietnam (L.B.J.), or scary threats like biological terrorism (Cheney).

When Lyndon Johnson was president, some of his staff began to think of him as “a sick man,” as Bill Moyers told Arthur Schlesinger Jr. Moyers and his fellow Johnson aide Dick Goodwin even began reading up on mental illness — Bill on manic depression and Dick on paranoia.

And so it was, Todd Purdum learned, as he traveled Alaska reporting on Palin for Vanity Fair, that the governor’s erratic and egoistic behavior has been a source of concern for people there.

36 hours before hand, she met with a senator...

made plans etc... made it sound like she wasn't going to "Resign".

She didn't consult with anyone before resigning... not the RNC chair, or any of her advisors, campaign officials... no one...

There's more to this...

wonder if we'll ever find out.

Who's to say she wouldn't have done the old man herself had they been elected? Hmmmm.
