View Full Version : Flightaware reporting doesn't jive
Notice in the reporting that the two different centers report different altitudes at the same time. Sometimes a person just has to wonder about the system.

Ask 'em. (http://discussions.flightaware.com/viewforum.php?f=3&sid=34c773232fd75738b7850b38614c12d5)
Guess their system just has an error every now and then.
From their Q&A page...
I believe I witnessed a traffic conflict, altitude deviation, or some other anomaly. Should I report it? (Back To Top)
Please don't. Rather, read the terms of use and understand that this data is for casual observation only and not for any operational purpose. FlightAware technology was not designed with the intent to observe safety or regulation anomalies, so please do not try to use it for that purpose.
Guess programmer and systems aren't what they use to be. Can't believe the feed is wrong.

The feed from FA or the feed from the ground station?
The deviation between the two ground stations in the image you posted was no greater than 2,000 feet at over 30,000 feet.
If an aircraft is 600 miles away at over 30,000 feet, does a 2,000 foot deviation between reported and actual altitude disturb you?
What I was alluding to is that people will look at data and use it 'prove' situations in CT theories and what not. Seems there could be a rather large margin for error, depending on the source.
Edit:
there were times where the data was 37000, not 32000.
