Does this make her an anti-semite for wanting to boycott Israel, even if she's jewish herself? Gotta love "self-hating jews" .

Let's not get too excited. This was a promotional book tour, as stated in the last paragraph of this article. Its still important though. Plus I know how much apeci likes this woman :).

Author Naomi Klein Calls for Boycott of Israel (http://www.commondreams.org/headline/2009/06/26-2)

Bestselling author Naomi Klein on Friday took her call for a boycott of Israel to the occupied West Bank village of Bilin, where she witnessed Israeli forces clashing with protesters.

"It's a boycott of Israeli institutions, it's a boycott of the Israeli economy," the Canadian writer told journalists as she joined a weekly demonstration against Israel's controversial separation wall.

"Boycott is a tactic . . . we're trying to create a dynamic which was the dynamic that ultimately ended apartheid in South Africa," said Klein, the author of "The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism."

"It's an extraordinarily important part of Israel's identity to be able to have the illusion of Western normalcy," the Canadian writer and activist said.

"When that is threatened, when the rock concerts don't come, when the symphonies don't come, when a film you really want to see doesn't play at the Jerusalem film festival . . . then it starts to threaten the very idea of what the Israeli state is."

She briefly joined about 200 villagers and foreign activists protesting the barrier which Israel says it needs to prevent attacks, but which Palestinians say aims at grabbing their land and undermining the viability of their promised state.

She then watched from a safe distance as the protesters reached the fence, where Israeli forces fired teargas and some youths responded by throwing stones at the army.

"This apartheid, this is absolutely a system of segregation," Klein said adding that Israeli troops would never crack down as violently against Jewish protesters.

She pointed out that her visit coincided with court hearings in Quebec in a case where the villagers of Bilin are suing two Canadian companies, accusing them of illegally building and selling homes to Israelis on land that belongs to the village.

The plaintiffs claim that by building in the Jewish settlement of Modiin Illit, near Bilin, Green Park International and Green Mount International are in violation of international laws that prohibit an occupying power from transferring some of its population to the lands it occupies.

"I'm hoping and praying that Canadian courts will bring some justice to the people of Bilin," Klein said.

Her visit was also part of a promotional tour in Israel and the West Bank for "The Shock Doctrine" which has recently been translated into Hebrew and Arabic. Klein said she would get no royalties from sales of the Hebrew version and that the proceeds would go instead to an activist group.

Down with Israel...

Oh wait... If I disagree with Israel that makes me an anti-semite doesn't it?

Well that's what they'd like you to believe. If you can't criticize a nation, they are given immunity in all crimes.

They're given immunity by proxy aren't they?

They're our buddies... and we seem to be pretty fuckin' immune...

Kacen

Seriously not joking, we've been buying this brand of tomatoes and then bought another brand, it was Spanish apparently, and it sucked. Then we found the first brand we got. Just the right type. Turned out it was Israeli and we've been buying Israeli tomatoes. But as long as they're good tomatoes, who cares what country they're from?

Ever wonder why the American Economy is failing?

Besides the fact that I only eat produce that is grown within 100 mile radius of my house, you're sending your money overseas...

In other words... while america is hurting financially, you're giving away our money.

Boohoo, they're tomatoes. We're not talking big business here we're talking tomatoes. It's not crippling the US economy that I happen to buy Israeli tomatoes and they taste better than all the others I've found.

You're wearing the mask you made.

I buy tomatoes from the local farmer's market...

My money goes directly to a farmer that lives in my neck of the woods...

your money goes to the store you bought it from, the delivery guy, the distrobution center, the freight guy, on overseas shipping center, and a few other steps before it finally gets to the farmer...

My tomatoes are fresher and cheaper... and the farmer is getting over 5 times the amount he would if he were selling them to a corporate machine...

Now, the farmer makes more money, I paid less money... everyone is happy...

now suppose everyone bought local... We wouldn't be in the economic mess we are today...

You mean Canaanites.

If you support their struggle you should call them by their real name and not what white people branded them 100 years ago.

Canaan needs a Malcom X.

Huge amounts of outsourcing to foreign nations like we do to China is bad.

Small things like Israeli tomatoes etc don't matter. A little foreign purchasing is fine.

Anti-Zionist Jews are just frustrated.

In reality the Torah doesn't say pro or con to Zionism.

It's kinda neutral on the issue, well actually like all Abrahamic texts it's convoluted and vague so it's hard to get anything out of it.

Philistines whatever.

Doesn't matter what you call them.

And I don't support them. They're just Arabs, ethnically the same, and Arabs have plenty of land in the middle east. Israel is a virtual micro-state and they have a right to ethnic self-determination. Also best Jews have a place to go so they don't leech off the economies of other nations. It's only fair.

I'm not, just making a point.

cartoon
08-22-2009, 08:49 AM
It's not a very good point if it's not true. I also noticed that the Palestinians were identified earlier here with Canaanites and/ or Philistines. This is also inaccurate. Bronze age Israel was a complicated place. There's really no percentage in fabricating genealogies to establish some sort of precedence of settlement there- either from a Judahite or Palestinian perspective. And really- what's the point? The word 'Semite' has come to describe descendants of the Israelites in common vernacular. There's really no need to make an attempt to conflate that reference with other communities that happen to share that land in modern times.

What's the point?

Kacen
08-22-2009, 10:23 AM
When you people speak this way it is in fact you people that are the racists. The Jews/Hebrews have a right to cultural self-determination and religious to an extent. The Palestinians are just Arabs, and Arabs have, as I've said, plenty of land.

But you know what, I don't really care past that. My loyalty lays with the United States, first and foremost.

skunk
08-22-2009, 10:41 AM
BE, its true...

Fascist troll, Who you calling 'you people?'

cartoon
08-22-2009, 11:03 AM
The Palestinians are just Arabs, and Arabs have, as I've said, plenty of land. They're also inhabitants of Palestine. Their 'arab' ethnicity is irrelevant. I would think that a so-called 'nationalist' would be the first to recognize the legitimacy of the Palestinian right to nationhood along side other legal national entities in the region. That internationally acknowledged right forms the basic premise of the 'two state solution'- the one which Israel petulantly resists. Please remove your blinders. And if, as you say, your true "loyalty lays with the United States" you'd support that position because it's always in the best interests of the United States to act justly in the world.
