This is actually kind of a big deal...

[offsite=http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124579553986643975.html#mod=rss_Today%27s_Most_P opular:21er8l29]BAGHDAD -- Next week, Iraqi officials plan a welcome-back party for Big Oil.

The government intends to auction off oil contracts to foreign companies for the first time since Iraq nationalized its oil industry more than three decades ago. If all goes according to plan in the first round, foreign oil companies will move in to help Iraq revive production at six developed fields that have suffered from years of war and neglect.[/offsite:21er8l29]

Lengthy article... but very relevant...

To summarize, next week the Iraqi government will be auctioning off the right to drill/pump oil to the highest bidder... which will most undoubtedly be Exxon, Mobil, Shell, Halliburton, etc...

I guess now, its finally safe to say

Coincidentally, also happening next week:

[offsite=http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/2009-06/24/content_11595741.htm:21er8l29]Iraq announces U.S. troops' pullout day a public holiday

BAGHDAD, June 24 (Xinhua) -- The Iraqi government announced a public holiday to celebrate the U.S. troops' withdrawal from Iraqi cities and towns by the end of the month.

Government spokesman Ali al-Dabbagh said in a statement on Wednesday that the cabinet decided to hold ceremonies on Monday next week, while Tuesday, the day of June 30, will be a public holiday.

The announcement came a few days after Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki described the day of U.S. troops' pullout a "great victory" and called on Iraqi people to celebrate the event.

"It is a great victory for Iraqis as we are going to take our first step towards ending the foreign presence in Iraq," Maliki told a conference in Baghdad on June 20.[/offsite:21er8l29]

Don't ya just love it when a plan comes together?

Not a damn word of it in the news though eh?

Isn't it strange? actually... not really...

Mission Accomplished indeed. WE GOT THEIR OIL!!!!!!

I wish the government was honest to the amerikan people about our reasons for invading. I mean, come on, WMDs? Please. If it weren't for the fact we sold Saddam chemical weapons it wouldn't be so fucking sad.

LOL guess you missed it then lol

[offsite=http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2009/jun/21/iraq-inquiry-tony-blair-bush:sn5ofi69]The memo, written on 31 January 2003, almost two months before the invasion and seen by the Observer, confirms that as the two men became increasingly aware UN inspectors would fail to find weapons of mass destruction (WMD) they had to contemplate alternative scenarios that might trigger a second resolution legitimising military action.

Bush told Blair the US had drawn up a provocative plan "to fly U2 reconnaissance aircraft painted in UN colours over Iraq with fighter cover". Bush said that if Saddam fired at the planes this would put the Iraqi leader in breach of UN resolutions.

The president expressed hopes that an Iraqi defector would be "brought out" to give a public presentation on Saddam's WMD or that someone might assassinate the Iraqi leader. However, Bush confirmed even without a second resolution, the US was prepared for military action. The memo said Blair told Bush he was "solidly with the president".[/offsite:sn5ofi69]

Really no surprises... But a very telling memo...

LOL Bush/Cheney= sheer bullshit...

Weren't they still sticking to the WMD story a little bit ago? Like Cheney was saying that was the reason for entering or some bullshit?

This kinda fucks their story ya know...

Now, they knew before they went in that there weren't any WMD's...

Must be why Obama is covering for em, and refusing to allow charges to be brought...

Actually, slick move... By refusing to allow charges, it saves him the trouble and public disgust of him issuing a pardon...

And we think Iran needs a revolution...

American troops are leaving.

I'm sure the contractors will not be. I'm sure the CIA will not be.

Both Xe and their CIA masters will have near complete autonomy once our troops pull out. With no oversight and no embeds.

Next week Iraq becomes a man made manifestation of Hell On Earth.

I thought we're not leaving till at least 2012 and even then there'll be a residual "national defense force" of sorts?

we're not "leaving" skunk...

All american troops are to withdrawl to bases... no more patrolling streets... no more wandering around the iraqi country side "Enforcing freedom".

An update:

Heavy sandstorm blankets Iraq, delays oil bidding (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090628/ap_on_re_mi_ea/ml_iraq_sandstorm_3)

Enki doesn't want to give up the oil to the profiteers :D.

[offsite:13molaya]A heavy sandstorm has blanketed Iraq's capital, closing the Baghdad airport and delaying the country's first oil bidding process in 30 years.

Visibility is only a few yards and most of the few people on the streets are wearing surgical masks. Doctors at the city's hospitals said Sunday that people were coming in complaining about shortness of breath and other problems.

Iraq had planned to award eight oil and gas fields to international oil companies for long-term development on Monday and Tuesday. But the airport closure prevented company representatives from landing in Baghdad.

Sandstorms are a regular occurrence in Baghdad although it is shielded from the desert by a thin strip of arable land between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers.[/offsite:13molaya]
