Years Pass, but Brooke Greenberg Remains a Toddler. No One Can Explain How or Why.
By BOB BROWN
June 23, 2009

Brooke Greenberg is the size of an infant, with the mental capacity of a toddler.

She turned 16 in January.

At about 16 pounds and 30 inches, 16-year-old Brooke Greenberg has not aged significantly, physically or apparently cognitively, since she was a toddler. Doctors hope that her case could shed light on the mysterious genetics behind aging.

"Why doesn't she age?" Howard Greenberg, 52, asked of his daughter. "Is she the fountain of youth?"

Such questions are why scientists are fascinated by Brooke. Among the many documented instances of children who fail to grow or develop in some way, Brooke's case may be unique, according to her doctor, Johns Hopkins School of Medicine pediatrician Lawrence Pakula, in Baltimore.

"Many of the best-known names in medicine, in their experience ... had not seen anyone who matched up to Brooke," Pakula said. "She is always a surprise."

Brooke hasn't aged in the conventional sense. Dr. Richard Walker of the University of South Florida College of Medicine, in Tampa, says Brooke's body is not developing as a coordinated unit, but as independent parts that are out of sync. She has never been diagnosed with any known genetic syndrome or chromosomal abnormality that would help explain why.

............

n her first six years, Brooke went through a series of medical emergencies from which she recovered, often without explanation. She survived surgery for seven perforated stomach ulcers. She suffered a brain seizure followed by what was diagnosed as a stroke that weeks later left no apparent damage.

At 4, she fell into a lethargy that caused her to sleep for 14 days. Then, doctors diagnosed a brain tumor, and the Greenbergs bought a casket for her.

"We were preparing for our child to die," Howard Greenberg said. "We were saying goodbye. And, then, we got a call that there was some change; that Brooke had opened her eyes and she was fine. There was no tumor. She overcomes every obstacle that is thrown her way."

Brooke's doctor said the source of her sudden illnesses remains a mystery.

"We often did not have a good explanation for why she became ill as quickly and intensely as she did," Pakula said. "There were many times in which there were real doubts about her ability to survive."

As she rocks back and forth in a baby swing, Brooke is fed through a tube inserted into her stomach, because her esophagus is so small that swallowed food could back up into her lungs and cause pneumonia.

Doctors recommended growth hormone therapy early in Brooke's life, but the treatment produced no results.

Howard Greenberg recalled the follow-up visit to the endocrinologist. "We took her back in six months, and the doctor looked at us and said, 'Why didn't you give Brooke the growth hormones?' And I said, 'We gave Brooke the growth hormones. We gave her everything you told us to do.' And Brooke didn't put on a pound, an ounce; she didn't grow an inch."[/offsite:2lg5x8nz]

The article goes on for four pages.

Fucking amazing.

In a few more years they're gonna wake up and find a fully fledged articulate human being sitting in that crib... a drop dead gorgeous one at that. Brooke will be the darling of the media and will take the world by storm. She will "know" things that seem beyond the scope of her previous "toddler" existence. She will expound upon such subjects as politics and religion with a wisdom unparalleled in recorded history. World (and personal) problems will begin to melt away under her guidance. Nations will shed off their oppressive yokes, people will flock to the banner of Brooke... a new age of peace and prosperity for all will loom visibly on the horizon...

and then some numbnut somewhere will shout "anti-christ!", push the button, and nuke us all out of existence.

Holy fuck!

You're on to something there torb:

[offsite:22ydnmq1]Jesus predicted that Israel will someday foolishly receive the Antichrist as their saviour. "I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive"(John 5:43).

The Bible does hint that the Antichrist might have a Jewish background. In Dan 11:37 it says "Neither shall he regard the God of his fathers." Although the verse could mean any deity, the wording strongly matches Jewish heritage of faith in God.

lol, with the anti christ comment...if this was posted at ats or glp i'm sure they would have already begun searching for photo's of her and the mysterious birthmark.

nice find cog, i remember reading an article somewhere about some research into alzheimers that had uncovered some interesting results that the scientists thought might lead to an anti ageing drug at some stage in the near future.
i wonder if they've tried mapping her dna?

from page three

To try to determine why Brooke's aging process has been so irregular -- and what it means to the understanding of our genetic makeup -- Walker and Sutcliffe have studied samples of Brooke's cells and DNA to look for what they think may be a genetic mutation never seen before that has affected the way she ages.

Walker, of the University of South Florida, believes that if the gene can be isolated, it may provide clues to questions about why we age and die.

"Without being sensational, I'd say this is an opportunity for us to answer the question, why we're mortal, or at least to test it," Walker said. "And if we're wrong, we can discard it. But if we're right, we've got the golden ring."

I wonder if they have to protect her from cyborgs sent back in time to kill her as to deny humanity the technology of immortality....

As I told Cog already in private.... she can't be Christ because I am Christ already.... and because... She's... a girl. Girls suck. AND on top of that, she's a big baby!

Maybe we'll have a Christ fight one day, to see who kills enough christ contenders to be the only true bloodbeastchrist.

It would be a Miracle if the scientists via this persons genes did solve the ageing process, only problem with that would be it will cost a fortune for the treatment, and again the fucking rich have got the cream. But a bigger problem is, no government wants this so called Golden Ring available to anyone because they would be paying people like me an OLD AGE PENSION for ever and thats BAD,also who wants to live for ever, not me,Take a look at the Green Mile, a super movie.

if you're in the US, treatment for all! Then they'll raise the age of Social Security to 150 years instead of 65. Moar work! Get back to the mines, slaves!

Well first she must contend for Christ-dom in a bloody battle to the death. Hey, listen. If I gotta kill baby not baby christs, I'll do it.

I have no doubt that future generations will live a thousand years- but that's only after the slimy fallout from the Malthusian Ouroboros imperative- otherwise known as Armageddon.

watching the news this morning, a list of early retirees from local body politics and universities, most recieving annual payments (pensions) of around $250,000 and up, some of these people were in their early 50,s

Companies here in Michigan have been offering early retirement as opposed to layoffs... They've also tried lump sum settlements of pensions...

Must not be helping much.. we're at 14.1% unemployment, and expected to rise to 15+ next month...

Michigan was the first to see the affects of a depression... we've been screwed for about 2-3 years now...

Don't worry guys... The Greater Depression... coming soon, to a city near you...
