... if there's a major motion picture...

What's the viral nature of the campaign?

At the end of the trailer it instructs you to "search 2012".

Let the past 10 years of Nibiru bullshit on the internet do the marketing for you.

Fucking brilliant.

Zach Sitchin is laughing.

hahahah we need 'proof' that a fantasy is a fantasy?

Once 20212 comes and goes, what will be the next year to wait for and make up BS about? Won't those 'ever in fear' have to look for asteriod passes or search out pedictions.

Since "peak oil" is turning out to be one of the greater lies of our age the next boogie man needs to be something equally as ephemeral to follow the pattern of Y2K and 2012.

My vote is for calculated projections of environmental doom.

The propaganda already started with that "Earth 2100" nonsense from a few weeks ago.

The doom and gloom crowd can't wait 85 years. Guess the old alien invasion stand by will be ramped up.

For all we know, it will end up being another Y2K. Who knows?

"Hope for the best...Prepare for the worst" is my daily axiom.

Nothing wrong with that.

If something does happen (unforseen events), it's best to keep the ol' boyscout/girlscout motto. "Be prepared"

I'm not saying we should all go out of our way and stock up (though it wouldn't hurt), but you never know when those 'rainy days' might come about. People stock up for many reasons.

That's just smart thinking regardless of the situation.

Modern society teeters on the brink of collapse by it's very nature. Most such conspiracy theory evolves from the average person's realization of such through a particular intellectual avenue.

The fundamental buildingblocks of society are only a natural disaster away from evaporating. The proof is in the lesser disasters of our time... the Northridge quake, Katrina, the Ache Tsunami, the monsoons of Bangladesh...

Within 72 hours you could walk outside of most of the disaster areas mentioned above. If you cannot survive for at least 72 hours with societal support then then you are making almost guaranteeing you will become a statistic.

Thanks bud :D

I reccommend that people live as though it were their last day.

Regardless of any bullshit and tripe they might read and see online or on the tubes. Pay off your bills, get out of debt as soon as possible, keep strong family/friend alliances (whenever possible), maintain the attitude of the 'ant' in the Aesop Fables: "The Ant And The Grasshopper" (http://www.longlongtimeago.com/llta_fables_antgrasshopper.html), and keep your eyes and ears open to anything that comes your way.

"So many scare tactics, So much sensationalism....so little time". lololol

What's a person to do?

[offsite:vtmbgb3v]DESIDERATA

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.

As far as possible, without surrender,
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even to the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons;
they are vexatious to the spirit.

If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain or bitter,
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs,
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals,
and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love,
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment,
it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be.
And whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life,
keep peace in your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.[/offsite:vtmbgb3v]

I don't know about the mayan calander. . . there so many different interpretations not sure what to make of it . . . but the planet alinment and the sun spots does make me wonder . . . they say that they think that we have started the 24 cycle as there was a sun spot that only lasted for 3 hours . . . . so if we are entering the next cycle, and sun spots have been an all time low, are we to expect, an all time high of sun spots as they predict for the 24 cycle . . . well have to wait and see I supose :wink:

Maybe it already did--on July 31st," says Hathaway. The first spot of a new solar cycle is always backwards. Solar physicists have long known that sunspot magnetic fields reverse polarity from cycle to cycle. N-S becomes S-N and vice versa. "The backward sunspot may be the first sunspot of Cycle 24."

It sounds exciting, but Hathaway is cautious on several fronts:

First, the sunspot lasted only three hours. Typically, sunspots last days, weeks or even months. Three hours is fleeting in the extreme. "It came and went so fast, it was not given an official sunspot number," says Hathaway. The astronomers who number sunspots didn't think it worthy!

The Mayan Calendar is a circle.

Kindly indicate the point which one might say a circle "ends".

Look a bit deeper and it's quite clear that Mayan-flavored TEOTAWKI isn't nearly consistent with how it is portrayed by even it's staunchest proponents.

Quite the contrary... it's something we'd all wish for.

Go placidly amid the noise and blah,

blah blah.... blah blah blah blahbity blah and blah![/offsite:109yw26p]

Here's the version I prefer:

[offsite:109yw26p][center:109yw26p]Deteriorata

Go placidly amid the noise and waste,
and remember what comfort there may be in owning a piece thereof.
Avoid quiet and passive persons unless you are in need of sleep.
Rotate your tires.
Speak glowingly of those greater than yourself,
And heed well their advice, even though they be turkeys
Know what to kiss and when.
Consider that two wrongs never make a right,
But that three lefts do.
Wherever possible put people on "HOLD".
Be comforted that in the face of all aridity and disillusionment,
And despite the changing fortunes of time.
There is always a big future in computer maintenance.
Remember the Pueblo.
Strive at all times to bend, fold, spindle and mutilate.
Know yourself. If you do need help, call the FBI.
Exercise caution in your daily affairs,
Especially with those persons closest to you;
That lemon on your left for instance.
Be assured that a walk through the ocean of most souls,
Would scarcely get your feet wet.
Fall not in love therefore; it will stick to your face.
Carefully surrender the things of youth: birds, clean air, tuna, Taiwan,
And let not the sands of time get in your lunch.
For a good time, call 606-4311.
Take heart amid the deepening gloom that your dog
Is finally getting enough cheese;
And reflect that whatever fortunes may be your lot,
It could only be worse in Sioux City.
You are a fluke of the universe.
You have no right to be here, and whether you can hear it or not,
The Universe is laughing behind your back.
Therefore make peace with your God whatever you conceive him to be,
Hairy Thunderer or Cosmic Muffin.
With all its hopes, dreams, promises, and urban renewal,
The world continues to deteriorate.
Give up.[/center:109yw26p][/offsite:109yw26p]

wait... what?

I did a news story on the new research into the mayan culture...

2012 is "new years eve".

Its on amkon news if anyone's interested.

Cogburn

LOL shit I totally forgot about that.

A link somewhere at the top of the forum page might be nice.... (hint, hint)

EDIT: Added Pack's article for the lazy...

[offsite:32f8er3b]For years now, there has been a subculture to conspiracy theorist on the meaning of the date 12/21/12. To many, this is the date that the world is supposed to end.

However, information about the mayan culture, and research into astronomical events conducted by John Mayor Jenkins shows otherwise.

Jenkins has discovered through cultural research that the Mayan calander ending on that specific date does not signify the end-times many conspiracy theorists believe. Instead, it marked the end of the "Earth Age", and probably, more appropriately would be celebrated as a rebirth, much like we celebrate new years today.

Why the winter solstice in 2012? Jenkins has also discovered that on that date, a particularly rare astronomical alignment will be occuring: The sun will be alligned with the Galactic Center (The exact center of the milky way galaxy). The mayans believed the glactic center was where their gods created the world, and thus believed it to be the "womb of the earth". Jenkins suggests that the ancient Mayans figured out this future alignment, and set their long calander to end on that particular day.

Research by Jenkins has shown that the ancient Mayan calander is not a prophesy of doom, but rather, a countdown to this galactic alighment. The calander, much like their shorter 13 year calander, was not designed to "end" but to repeat itself endlessly... You can think of the last day of each calander as "New Years Eve".

Thats it in a nutshell. Doom and gloom about the date in 2012 is baseless. Recent research shows this. However, the conspiracy theory and new age thinkers refuse to acknowledge this information. I guess the truth doesn't have commercial value.[/offsite:32f8er3b]

Ugh... no way to directly link to a single article...

The astronomer Philip Plait has stated very clearly that the Mayan calendar does not end in 2012 at all, that it is like the odometer on your car, as each section of the odometer reaches 9 and then clicks over to 0, the next number to it starts a new cycle, so that when all the numbers again reach 0 all the way across the odometer - the last number will change from 1 to 2 and the new cycle starts all over again.

Star charts (like the one that Nola points to in this video: http://www.torbtown.com/demo/demo_27.html ) indicate that spring equinox shifts from the age of Pieces to the age of Aquarius on 2012... a zodiac 'age' is approximately 2150 years... ancient peoples (which includes the Maya) knew about the precession cycle and had calendars that measured 'ages'...

doom and gloom aside, it IS the end of an old 'age' and the beginning of a new one...

Groovy, baby.

8]N9oq_IskRIg8]

Seriously though... it makes you wonder a bit about why such doom and gloom when up until not too long ago even western counter-culture regarded the changing age as something to look forward to.

What does it mean when an entire ideology is reversed 180 degrees within a generation?

Is it merely coincidence that Sitchin's first work was published 10 years after Hair and the hippie movement was all but dead?
