Since the fall of the Berlin wall, we in the West have been on a constant rollercoaster-like cycle of doom predictions at the frequency of once every 12 years or so.
Berlin wall fell in 1987 and the doom-of-the-day was Y2K. I stopped worrying about Y2K when I couldn't find a single application or computer or embedded system anywhere around me that would fail a year 2000 date test. What will it take for people to not worry about 2012? It's a pipe dream, I know, but one can certainly maintain hope. It's June 2009 and Nibiru is no where to be seen. By all accounts now is the time when the Red Menace should reveal itself in our skies. It has yet to oblige. I'm sure there is panic amongst the faithful.
The amount of money and effort and thought and time invested into such schemes is simply staggering. All the conferences, DVDs, websites, books, pamphlets, blogs, bumperstickers... <sigh> I want to cash in, too. I'm announcing that I'm going to hold an Anti-TEOTWAWKI party on the night of 12/21/2012. Right now I'm thinking of having it as a big outdoor bonfire deal in either Pahrump or Dulce. It's only fitting, and you guys and the whole world are invited. Live music, sex, drugs, and a good time in the desert. I digress.
The point of this post is what happens for the greater portion of the conspiracy theory community on 12/22/2012. All the theories that will crumble, the fortunes lost, the reputations permanently stained.
In the title of this thread I compared it to the effect Obama had on the closet racists that still live amongst us, prowling the internet spreading their intellectual disorder but never having quite enough conviction of purpose to come out and say how they feel in regular "polite" conversation. Will 2012 have the same effect? I predict that on 12/22/2012 you'll be able to tell all the crazy people that live around you by the simple fact at how stunned they are that nothing happened.
How far into the Western psyche has this mania progressed? Even my kid is aware of the 2012 phenomenon and we don't let her on the internet unsupervised. She had to pick it up from somewhere. My guess is from one of her friends who probably picked it up from a brother or parent who is a "believer".
The best part about the phenom is the number of movements that have tied their philosophies to the 2012 movement. On 12/22/2012 the following people and organizations will be done:
* ZetaTalk
* Timewave Zero
* Nibiru / Planet X / Annunaki / Zach Sitchin (WOO HOO!!!!)
* Urantia / Hatonn / ATON
* NESARA / GESARA (lol yes... "GESARA")
* Michael Tsarion
* Any of the 100's of 2012 survival cottage industries
* Any of the 100's of cottage industries surrounding misinterpreting Mayan technology and philosophies
Oh yes... The world will indeed be different on 12/22/2012 if you've been paying attention to such things. It will be like all the air was sucked out of the room for conspiracy theory.
Will we all go back to discussing Oklahoma City, 9/11 and Kennedy or is there already something lurking in the wings to assure us that doom is waiting for us just around the corner in 2025...
