Kawther Salam is one of my favorite bloggers. She's a writer and a refugee from Palestine, living in Austria since 2001. No-one makes a more authentic case for the State of Palestine than Kawther Salam. In her most recent blog she reports on Norm Finkelstein's May 26th town hall in Vienna. It's an eye opener for anyone committed to peace in the region. My own feeling is that such peace can come about with an acceptance of the 2002 Saudi proposals but I'm less hopeful than ever that Israel will ever muster the political will to return to the borders that existed prior to the Six Day War as required by the Saudi plan. That there is no better way to solve the issue is undeniable, in my opinion. The alternative is smoldering, eternal warfare. Here's Kawther's site: http://www.kawther.info/wpr/

I agree that the whole situation is a mess and needs a solution.

The generals sit in safety and direct the troops into the battle by moving wooden replicas on a map and wait for the casualty count in order to plan the next move.
Guess that's the big picture...waiting for everyone on the down side to give up and leave.

The Palestinian diaspora has produced some fine commentators. The Austrians need teachers too; because -in the end- only an enlightened world effort can midwife great movements. Bear in mind that Iskra was published in Munich, London and Zurich. Every fire requires a spark.

Not much has changed in 18 months...

Why not just recognize all the Palestinians as citizens of Israel and give them a bit of self-determination.
I don't think that the Palestinians by and large want to be citizens of Israel.

Yeah i did not read it, i just saw that pic and said fuck that. Im not sure what the hell this is about but it is obvious by the picture that the girl there has some british in her, just look at those teeth. But whatever it is, it is an abomination and I am against it.

What is sad is that some of the parties that seem to be desperately trying to find a "peaceful" solution, are really only paying lip service to the process. They have a vested interest in perpetuating the fear and hate, for of all things, something as vile and dirty as money. And at the end of the day, people are living in camps, rationing food and water. A sin of the highest order; one against our own humanity!

While I don't doubt Israel could take on Iran, Israel might suffer a few explosions and might take a fairly big toll itself The Arab spring seems to have replaced secular leaders in the area with nationalist and extreme Muslims not a good thing long term thing for Israel.

There is a new Intifada in Israel's future. The frightened little boys from Ramallah are now grown and angry men. Before there were stones and now there are rockets. Israel has not chosen wisely.
