Hey guys. I'm being thrown out and I don't know anyone anymore around here. I would like to escape the midwest. I will find a way to you and I will help you out with various work needed done where you reside in exchange for some food and shelter. I'm pretty inept, but I'm a willing learner...

There's not enough crazy people in the midwest to hide you. Couchsurf (http://www.couchsurfing.org/) the fuck out of the midwest and find a coastline.
Pick a direction and go.

I have enough money to get to a coast.... it's just not enough money to LIVE there.... but since when does money equal life?
I'm pretty sure I'd be fine. I'm just throwing this out to see what comes back.
I thought about going to Sedona. There's a nice little group of hippie organic farmers that live there.... ya always gotta fucking watch out for cults, though. This one place in PA turned out to be a Children of God type cult. I went there for like a half hour just to visit and see what it was like, and everyone was naked.... and then I hear from one of my friends that they had a close friend who had to literally escape from there because she was being raped.... but somehow they get around the whole "illegal to rape children" thing.

I think at last count there's about 2,500 people in Santa Barbara that live on the beaches.
If you decide to head Cali-way and think of trying the SB outdoors I could swing you a paycheck at a telemarketing place where I used to be the MIS director.
It's $9 an hour on the phones humping the LA Times to people that don't want it, so it's not anything to go cross country for... but I'll PM you my cell number if you find yourself within 250 miles of here, feel free to use it.

If you can swing a hammer construction has picked up in Sedona, if you can't swing a hammer there may be an electrical job there. Sedona is not as hippie as it used to be, all the bong smokers live in million dollar homes now and the new agers are more akin to GFL than ELO or GFRR. I'm driving down to Sedona in a couple of days, if you're in the upper mid west thumb your ass westward down I-80 to Reno and I'll take you to sedona. If you are serious send me a PM and I'll let you know when I'm hitting the road.

People with real money are bailing on California and New York in droves, they are heading west, I personally know have several clients building fat homes in Sedona, it may be dry as shit, it may be over priced, and it may have a ton of tourists, but it is one of the most beautiful places on this planet and you should get there before you die. Indiee, even if it's for a few months you should get there. Cog is right about SB, I was there not long ago and got hit on by no less than about 7 or 8 people in need. One guy had built himself a nice lean-to right on the friggin beach, and it didn't appear the cops had any intention of taking it down.
My offer is still open but if you start in with one of your loooong boring stories on the drive I will kill you and kick you out of a moving vehicle.

Well... I have found an organic farm community right outside of sedona, actually.... I was wondering if anybody's heard anything about Avalon Gardens?
I need to learn some sort of skill, and considering how I fucking hate purchasing my food.... I think knowing how to produce your own food is very important.... and just fucking gotta go somehow. Ima, it is possible that I won't need your help. I have like around a grand saved up. My life savings haha.... and I'm prolly gunna buy a bus ticket to Flagstaff, and hopefully get a ride there. I think it's about 35 miles from Sedona, if I measured correctly... but I believe they must be right on the outskirts, cuz it said it started in Sedona, but it's listing it's mailing address in Tubac, AZ.
From there, maybe I'd couch surf to Phoenix in search of my only remaining idol of sorts, Greg Sage from the Wipers. Then.... I will decide what to do when I get wherever it is I am getting at.

You are about right Indiee, 30 to 35 miles from Flag to Sedona. If I were you I would be in no hurry to go to PHX til about the end of October, you don't know what hot is til you've spent a summer in PHX. At midnight it's still 105 degrees in the shade and it isn't as dry as it used to be.
If you get there and can't find a couch to surf on let me know, I still have plenty of family there, and as long as you don't bore them with one of your stories they might just let you sleep on their couch without killing you.

Okay this is frustrating. I just got a letter from the place, and they're saying they no longer take people at the Sedona location, but they've expanded to a place right outside of Tucson. That is, apparently, the town of Tubac. My mistake. It's not exactly where I wanted to go. So fuck.... and also, they want a PHOTO of my FACE? What the fuck? Why? And "this process requires one month yada yada" fucking god damn fake asshole fuckers. Well, that fucking de-railed. Fuck 'em.
And another thing.... Why the fuck is everyone insistent on acting so fucking beurocratic and fucking businesslike? It's completely fucking fake! Why can't anybody just fucking deal with people like they're something more than numbers in a system? Fucking Christ, the whole fucking world is crazy. I can't find one single sane person. Yeah sure, you think I'M insane.... try walking in my shoes, and maybe you'd understand that it really really is not me that's fucked up. It really is not. Really.
I still want to go to Sedona. What if I just paid the ridiculous bus fare and went, and then I'd be there.... and then perhaps when I get there, maybe I'll find another way. Shit.... maybe I'll just go to California, while I'm paying an arm and a leg.... and take Cogburn up on his offer.

dude I've heard of these places... They lull you in, drug you, and then steal your organs. But now it appears they want your face. I would think stealing someone's face would be easier to trace than a kidney, but what do I know. For a friend I would drive the extra hour and a half down to Tucson (hike into Sabino Canyon and do the 7 falls swim, and then take the boy to the Davis Monthan boneyard) but you have to promise me, no stories. I don't want to have to push you out of a moving vehicle in front of my 7 year old son.
As long as you can work and are a reasonable worker stop stressing yourself out . . . thats how I use to travel, I'd buy a ticket, land, stay in a hostel, find shit work till I got what I wanted. . . . I worked on a oil refinery, throught bullshit. . . .I snuck on to the site, got throw off by security first time but went back . . . then went to all offices and begged for a job, I became a spray painter . . . if I can do it, anyone can . . . just don't give up . . . it will happen, you have to beleive in yourself then other will. :)

Urantia?
Hadda google that:
[offsite:gg5gohtx]Teachings of the Urantia Book:
The book covers a multitude of subjects including theology, cosmology, evolution, anthropology, and history. Consequently, it is difficult to summarize its teachings. Here are a few selected concepts:
* The world is viewed as one of 10 million inhabited worlds in our local universe called Nebadon.
* God the Universal Father is the ultimate source of all things, and is also knowable as a loving personal being.
* The Universal Father can act in concert with other deity personalities in a complex association of three trinities, The Trinity of Trinities.
* The book describes a form of theistic evolution which deviates from the Bible's account in Genesis, Chapter 1 and 2. It also does not fully agree with Naturalistic Evolution, as it is currently understood by scientists.
* Just as lower animals evolved into humans, we are destined to evolve and become spirit beings, called finaliters. The book details our long progression of spiritual experiences on other, more advanced, worlds.
* The book teaches that an a fragment of God's spirit dwells within each person; this is called a "Thought Adjuster." Its role is to guide the individual towards greater spiritual understanding through many lives on other worlds.
* The book corrects the Genesis account of Adam and Eve and the concept of atonement. Adam and Eve did not "fall," although they fell short of their mandate to uplift humankind. People today do not suffer from original sin, and thus do not need to be redeemed by the blood of Christ. They are inherently children of God.
* The book counters many beliefs that Christians have traditionally held about the nature and message of Jesus Christ; it expands upon his known teachings. They refer to Jesus by the English translation of one of his actual names: Joshua ben Joseph. They view him as the 7th incarnation of Michael of Nebadon, the 611,121st Creator Son of God. Christ is believed to have toured the Roman empire with two people from India in the years preceding his ministry. He is believed to have died on the cross and resurrected in a morontial body (an intermediate state between matter and spirit). As such, he was visible to numerous disciples before his ascension. He now is the sovereign of our universe, where he "represents and actually embodies the personality presence of the Universal Father."
* Jesus boldly proclaimed the spiritual equality of women at a time when women were not even allowed on the main floor of the synagogue. The book explains that Jesus appointed twelve women evangelists, and these women remained faithful even when his apostles denied or betrayed him.
* The book attributes the following teachings to Jesus:
- "Prayer is self-reminding; worship is self-forgetting."
- "Worship must alternate with service, work should alternate with play, religion should be balanced by humor, profound philosophy should be relieved by rhythmic poetry, the strain of living should be relaxed by the restfulness of worship."
* The world's religions are all beneficial, "to the extent that they bring man to God and bring the realization of the Father to man... all contain truth." "The Hebrews based their religion on goodness; the Greeks on beauty; both religions sought truth. Jesus revealed a God of love, and love is all-embracing of truth, beauty, and goodness."
* True religion "is to know God as your Father and man as your brother. Religion is not a slavish belief in threats of punishment or magical promises of future mystical rewards."

Nasshole, Sedona is indeed beautiful as is much of the arid southwest. The problem for me was the dryness of it all, and the lack of trees (among other things). I spent over two years in the four corners/Nevada region and had a great time living on a ranch. I'm happy to be back on the east coast in the mountains though. Nothing beats it.
