You're gonna think this is cool... until you read the recommended age range.
[offsite=http://www.pedisedate.com/Home.html:3kinmpoc]PediSedate is a medical device consisting of a colorful, toy-like headset that connects to a game component such as the Nintendo Game Boy system or a portable CD player. Once the child places it on his or her head and swings the snorkel down from its resting place atop the head, PediSedate transparently monitors respiratory function and distributes nitrous oxide, an anesthetic gas. The child comfortably becomes sedated while playing with a Nintendo Game Boy system or listening to music. This dramatically improves the hospital or dental experience for the child, parents and healthcare providers.
The result is a system that provides a calming influence over the children, monitors the child continuously, allows the procedure to be performed by less skilled personnel, increases the speed with which procedures can be performed and makes the procedure a less stressful experience for all involved. Each headset can be used multiple times per day by replacing the disposable components contained in the disposable kit.
PediSedate consists of a state of the art anesthesia administration and monitoring system. A pulse-oximeter within the headset, monitors oxygenation and a capnometer monitors second-to-second respiratory rate ensuring the safety of the patient. This currently is not the standard of care in outpatient settings. The PediSedate anesthesia delivery system delivers Nitrous Oxide and other volatile agents via a patented anesthesia delivery/scavenging mask situated in the snorkel. Inhalation anesthesia is both painless and titrateable. The benefits of volatile anesthetics are that onset and recovery times are rapid, which reduces cost to the healthcare system.[/offsite:3kinmpoc]

The company logo should make those with accessorizing with a thick layer of tin get a little twitchy.

Gotta be careful with the nitrous oxide (laughing gas). No matter what age, after the buzz wears off, there's bound to be repricusions. One of them is a splitting headache (depending on the doseage?). As with any eurphorically attributed substances, there's going to be a few brain cells going AWOL at one point or another.
Though I've never had the pleasure of using that at any sessions with the dentist; mostly needles to numb for drilling, or a complete general anesthetic to extract 4 wisdom and an impacted molar, I'm not adverse to trying it at least ONCE in my lifetime.
Pain management should firstly start with the conscious mind and if all else fails, then resort to medical substances to alleviate the pain.
In other words, it's best to sit down and talk with young children in a calm way to help with their dental experiences. Get them in the right frame of mind.
***************
Downside:
I see this program as something that might just turn a kid on (at an early age) to possibly experiment with other types of recreational drugs.
In any event...
Here are a few Dental students in training taking their own medicine:

Ask if you can be 'put under'?
allows the procedure to be performed by less skilled personnel
allows fuck ups to go un-noticed.

Ask if you can be 'put under'?
Yah, apparently they are going to numb me, gas me, and give me an IV to knock me out...
Its actually more than just all 4 wisdom teeth... I've got a cyst behind one of em, and they have to irrigate my jawbone...
Sounds like its gonna hurt like a bitch :P

Make sure to get plenty of vicodin for the pain. You'll probably need them too.

yah... I think they're going to give me something decent for pain :P
But I imagine the actualy pain is going to negate any good feeling that the pills might give me lol

3 lessons learned today:
1) Nitrus Oxide is fuckin' AWESOME!
2) The cyst they had to remove behind the one tooth is 1000x more painful than the wisdom teeth...
3) Percocet doesn't work fast enough...
fuckin ouch...
I'm going to go try and sleep through this bullshit...

Pac a good thing to do for the pain is get them to pack the hole with clove . . . they just fill in the hole where they removed the tooth, with clove and the releif is amazing . . . They did it to me about 3 day after the removal as my whole jaw blew up it was great. :)

Lala: I'll have to give the clove thing a shot maybe tomorrow... I wanna make sure the holes are good and clotted first lol I still have the most colorful spit I've had in a long time :P
Goos: I'm willing to snort them at this point in time lol they had to dig pretty deep into the one side of my jaw...
Anyway, When the pain meds kick in, it'll either make me really spacey, or it'll knock me out...
Recommended dosages are for wussies :P

When they extracted my teeth, they had to sew the holes. Apparently, my roots were pretty long and left gaping maws where the teeth once were. Some people are lucky, in that the holes aren't too big (smaller roots) and were ok to be 'left open to the wind' so to speak. Heal on their own.
I only took pain killers when needed. You guys have to remember, that any type of 'pain killers' will slow down the body's healing process.
Minor ones like Codeine might 'bind you up' (cause constipation after awhile).
I was extremely lucky that my face didn't swell up either :shock: Heard all the war stories about that, and wondered if it was going to happen to me as well? Nope nadda...nothing. Thank goodness.

Percocet = Oxycodone and Tylenol (http://www.rxlist.com/percocet-drug.htm)
All that acetaminophen isn't going to help the bio-availability, which is the whole point of snorting it, right?
Besides, Tylenol isn't going to be very friendly to lining of your nose...unless you're a stone cold freak like the Lex man.

Speaking of which...gonna derail
this thread.
A few years ago, a friend wanted
to dump some meth, but wanted
to cut it to make a decent profit.
This was when Mini-Thins were
the real deal.
We crushed 10 or so and mixed
them in.
Only fucking buzz I ever got from
meth. My hair crawled for hours.
Carry on.

I've NEVER done these drugs:
* Meth
* Crack/Cocaine
* Acid
* PCP
* Extasy
* Heroin
To name a few
I'm sure there's a LOT of other street-name drugs out there on the market. I'm not hip on them.
Nor do I fucking care to find out.
I really don't give a fucking RAT'S ARSEHOLE if people think I'm missing out either.
Somewhere along the line, I decided NOT to experiment in a grandiose state.
That's just me. Hate me or fuckin love me. I don't give 2 shits either way.
I AM WHO I AM
And that's all there is to it.
If you guys wanna do what you do, I'm not going to belittle you about it. That's your choice. Respect. I expect the same respect in return when I tell you that I DON'T do that stuff. Capeesh?
Hmphh...
Just looked at the title of the thread, and thought about how much we derailed the poor sonofabitch again?

Alcohol, nicotine and caffeine (no wait...I've cut back on that one cus all I get is 'raunch-gut' and jitters)...green tea - yeah that's the ticket!...and mabey...and I mean a big MABEY on the occasional dewbs from time to time. I don't fuckin go to town with them one iota. HONEST TO GOD. It's either THERE or isn't, in my midst, amongst who I KNOW are my friends. I DON'T go out of my way to look for it.
Other than that, I won't explore past any other boundries.
Now that we've completely OBLITERATED the fuck out of this poor little thread, I wanted to get back on topic about kids who use nitrous oxide (in conjunction with gaming consoles) to make their dental visits more pleasureable

AFter my last dental visit (ouch)... I've come to believe that Nitrous Oxide can make anything more pleasurable...
Ok...I forgot to mention something (fuck me..just remembered it now) I HAD nitrous oxide.
When I was giving birth to my 2nd child in 1991. The hospital had two masks going. One for Oxygen, the other was Nitrous Oxide. I was in labor for the whole day, took 6 showers at home, and by the time I got to the hosptial here in Burlington, I was pretty cervically dilated. From the time of admittance to delivery - 3-5 hours tops.
I THINK...lolol I kept puliing the laughing gas to my face, as it was making me 'go to sleep' / no pain. Damn nurse kept waking me up with the oxygen mask; telling me the baby needed more oxygen. lolol She was on top of things. Actually...she was a 'mid-wife', and did a helluva job.
*NOTE*
When I think of kids in the dentist's offices, who are subjected to nitrous oxide, once the 'high feeling' takes affect, these kids won't care to thumb around on ANY game console, let alone wait for WW3 to hit them.
