Kudos Skunk............I wonder how the application to join by John L,Wraith,Deaman etc would be met?.....BE is an advocate of free speech, Im sure if any of the above mentioned members were to apply, BE would welcome them, but Chorlton?.......will you allow the same freedoms given you by Amkon to all comers at your forum?, there are some big issues at hand here and if nothing else it will be interesting to watch it unfold,.....no-one here has had more run-in's with BE than Skunk, and I think it safe to say Skunk is a genuine bloke, and his above quoted comment is how a "proper bloke" would respond, I repeat ,.......kudos Skunk

I know I've said it before, and i'll probably get some flames... but I've never had a real problem with BE... when we've disagreed we've typically kept it above the belt...
I'm not saying he never pissed me off LOL, i'm just saying I've not had the issues most have with him...
anyway, Amkon is my home, but I'm willing to check out his forum when it gets up and running...

What pissed us off to the extent of wanting our own home were the gratuitous attacks on the sixties here- an era that includes the two of us- and which we both feel is historically significant. It has to do with Santayana to a certain extent, but more importantly a level of comfort. We both realized that our contributions here were bracketed as the 'doddering of old fools whose time is passed.' That's about it. John will certainly be welcome there. Personally I like that old coot a lot. He's of the era, after-all. As far as rules are concerned, there will be none from my end. Chorlton may have other ideas but I think his introduction blurb answers that question. Chorlton's inclination is to be a skeptic. But he also loves the banter and reparte'. Skepticism to me has nothing to do with debunkery. It is simply the reliance upon reason to the edge of the abyss of the Absurd. As I've said in the past- he and I have tumbled from the barrooms of the void, locked in the embrace of tedious argument, for years- until we finally recognized one another as one another. With recognition comes respect. And humor (the sense of the absurd) is final embrace.

Every time period is almost equally historically significant...

Nah, the "tribal paradigm" you refer to was actually just a minority of the overall population... I'm not knocking what they did or anything, but it was not, nor will it be the last counterculture.
Like I said... its all about the importance you attach to it on a personal level... without that personal importance, one decade is just as historically significant as another...
In the 20's we had Flappers... Most people don't even bother to discuss that counterculture.
In the 40's and 50's we had beatniks...
At the time, they were hugely popular movements (even though still a minority of the overall population), and no one really discusses these groups anymore...

It was first the disturbing inability of certain posters at Amkon to think critically that led to my joining this site. And nowhere on Amkon was such a lack more in evidence than in the gratuitous attacks upon, and marginalization of, the sixties by a gaggle of sophomoric pretenders ignorant of the past. One reading the thread there couldn’t fail to understand that the assault on that decade was the result of petulant and under-educated children projecting their own failures in lives on their parents. The entire decade was dismissed as nothing more than a drug induced disaster for humanity- no redeeming qualities whatever. It’s as if these children, having failed in life, needed to cast blame on an entire generation in order to deny responsibility for their own failures. So- we have a night watchman, an assortment of junkies and pot-heads, and frustrated corporate poseurs casting aspersions on the obvious enlightenment and expansion of human rights brought about by the 60’s generation. They seem to view themselves as victims of a conspiracy to reduce them to mediocrity- when in truth those mediocre minds are the result of a cloying attachment to toys, drugs and armchair Ramboism. How many times have we suffered their inane fantasies of blowing off the heads of a burgler (or a mailman!) with their big guns in some drunken rage? Ah- the bravery! actually, I think the search index only goes back 3 months...
any other posts before that period have to specifically be entered in a 'date range' in advanced search...
I can expand the search index... thats not a big deal... but the bigger the index and cache, the more we sacrifice in performance...
I'm not opposed to sacrificing a little though... last I checked, google says amkon pageload times are in the 92nd percentile of all pages on the net....

The search engine does not find what I'm looking for, pretty much ever. I usually have to rely on my own memory and wade through threads for a specific post in question.
I find that putting the phrase or word in quotes sometimes helps, but that's fucking obnoxious.

It almost seems as if 90% of the members there have been struck upside the head by the infamous 'stoopid stick.' There are exceptions, as I've mentioned. I'll mention a few that come to mind: the NZ Three, Egg, Whisper, Fox, BK, IEF, Royal, Murnut, Hazel, Triangle, and the recently departed ME and Trauma Teased and, of course- Chorlton. The greater balance of the rest, the shallow ilk of the slurpee jerk, Eyelie, Allesandra (whose ample body is an exemplar of middle school grafitti), Pack (the history maven ), Anturd and his tag team poodle Mrs Silver- are a sad waste of protoplasm. It's rather disconcerting that Mojo has recently chosen to affiliate himself with that lurid band of dregs. Oh well. What can you do?
