We seem to have had a glitch of some sort with the backups and the bodies of previous posts are gone. I have contacted the service provider and requested a rollback on the site and they are unable to perform one as their only backup is for yesterday.

We will continue to work on the problem and hopefully we can get everything back to normal.

New threads should be unaffected.

Nah, it's just one of those things.

I am not sure about apeci, but I'm still pretty new to the whole php thing and I know when I was initially doing the upgrades and such, I messed up a ton of shit just trying to figure things out. Especially when it came to installing new scripts and such for use around here. 60% of them were corrupt at the source and when I installed them, they wreaked all kinds of havoc even though they have already received the stamp of approval from the bigger phpbb sites.

Shit happens sometimes.

I will continue to look for a solution to the problem but we might as well start fresh from here.


Things can easily be rebuilt. Most of the previous topics had already devolved to off topic chatter anyway. Perhaps a few of the more popular on topic threads could be restarted by you guys.

Had the tech support at hostgator not given apeci and myself some bullshit information, we would have been able to perform a proper rollback with minimal loss. However, he had us looking in the wrong place until it was too late and the previous rollback (the "good" one) was replaced with one from after the problem occurred.

I had a dream.

I just awoke an hour or so ago from a dream... normally I waste my REM sleep on post traumatic stress syndrome stuff (fish dreams) but this complete waste of sleep was a dream about AmKon...

The gist of it was: I was posting on AmKon but it was all changed around, things gone missing, disruption... There was a relative newbie with an "S" name in all caps who was the cause of all of the problems... and that person turned out to be Springer in disguise.

it was just a DREAM.

however, to my knowledge, until now, I have never dreamt about the AmKon forum OR that person from the other place... as fucked up as both of those things are (in their own ways) neither one has traumatized me enough to warrant a slice of my oh so precious REM sleep... my REM sleep seems to be devoted to those Seriously fucked up things in my life...

Except on those Rare occasions when I dream about something else, then later, in hindsight, it turns out that I seemed to have "tapped" into "something" and the Dream turned out to be "insightful" or "meaningful" in a "prophetic" or "nutty crunchy" kind of way...

This might be one of those... as stated, I don't normally waste REM sleep on "stupid stuff"... I find it odd that I wasted much needed REM on connecting problems with the AmKon forum to Springer, instead of sorting out alla the death and destruction from my past...

so there.

I need help, but definitely not professional help.

I think's okay to admit that we need help, and I think that it's tragic that we would need professionals to do what would be done much better if people weren't so damn apathetic caught up in the endless rat race to nowhere. I'm a real chilled out and loving and friendly guy, and what affects me deeply is feeling the separatedness of everyone. There really aren't too many people out there who aren't alone... maybe not physically, but if we were our true selves really really, most of us would be unconfortable with that. I think most of us run from our true selves constantly. I can't run from it. It still disturbs me, and there really isn't much anyone could do, except maybe someone who knows the loneliness I am speaking of. Not so much the physical loneliness, but the mental loneliness of knowing that almost everyone would shy away from you, be ye the true you.... because the true you isn't a socially domesticated self-defensive ego shell like the you we think we are most of the time is.

I don't know who could help me with my thoughts, since I've thought circles around psychologists already. "Here. Pay me and I'll listen....and then tell you that you're suffering from a disease, while completely negating the fucking state of the world as a whole."

The first gives a url to a php page which generates a 404 error (page not found). If you back off the url to the root you get a page with a "enter your password" text box / button and Nothing else. The second gives a url for Russian Vibrators... the last doesn't really have much data to go on...

If the site was down or in the process of going down when they tried to create new accounts maybe that contributed to the loss of stuff here *shrugs*

There is another backup from a little over a month ago that I am going to restore and see where that leaves us. The plan is for tonight after work. If it works ok it will also mean all posts for the past cpl days will be lost. So it's a toss up... start cleaning up the debris again or deal with several months of posts missing. I'm leaning towards the former.

Depending on how often things are backup around here (rule of thumb dictates - 'daily basis'), as well as how many people are doing this, we should have at least 2 backups going on, and not relying on the sucky server to get us out of predicaments. This is of course, for future posterity folks.

Anyone else experiencing oddities concerning the loading of images here at AmKon?

Images, both native to the site like navigation icons and avatar pics to those linked from elsewhere are failing to load, on just about every page requested.

One or two, here or there.

It appears to be utterly random.

It'll load the avatar for three out of four posts by the same author, leaving one unloaded; just a text placeholder instead.

It doesn't seem to happen with any other sites; just AmKon.

Am I alone on this?
