Ya know, it takes two.... to tango.
Any thoughts on modern humans' pride? Is it a little dangerous?
One simple question I've always asked since I was little is this, and it ties in with what I hope to be our discussion:
Why must we pay to live on a planet in which we were born on?
Why money? To me, this destroys any illusion of truth that we live in a free society. There may be many ways to color the picture, but this is the only picture we are given. Earn money or die in the streets. Whichever way you choose to sell your soul to corporations and the government for this "living" they provide, you're still presented with only one option. You were not born asking to be provided a living. You already had a life by just being alive. You were not born proclaiming to be an American/Australian/Chinese/etc., nor were you born agreeing to be governed by these filthy criminal organizations. They stole your choice before you even realized that you had to choose. I find it appalling to see little babies saying their first words, and one of the first words they learn is the word "money". I find it hard to believe that humans can allow their children to be completely brainwashed and even assist in the brainwashing in most cases without even realizing what they are doing... but then I remember that each generation is taught to perpetuate the pride that the system they live under has brainwashed everyone into having. Therein lies the problem with pride. Not only is pride sometimes so ingrained and stubborn and arrogant that people will kill for it, but most pride in this world lies in things that aren't even of the individual. Group pride. Pride in imaginary borders and labels.
Humans are a proud species, but I'm afraid that pride really IS ignorance in most cases, because it becomes somewhat of a filter on reality, narrowing the mind to other possibilities. Even pride as a whole species. We are too arrogant. We think we are the only true beholders and deciders in the universe, and when it is revealed to everyone one day that we are not alone, and we meet another race of intelligent beings from somewhere else... will our pride become so threatened that fear and hate causes us to become more barbaric than we've ever been to any human? Would you want to let an overly-arrogant species like ours out in to space if you were a higher race observing Earth. No, dude. I'd go straight to the Galactic Coucil once I saw that first rocket launch out of the atmosphere and say "Listen, these arrogant bastards are getting too close for comfort. They are still enslaving and killing THEIR OWN species just because of delusional perceptions. What do you think they'll do to us? They've got NUKES now, Jesus!" I would organize a quarantine of this planet immediately upon those observations.
What does this do to human pride? To know that you are being viewed as babies in the Galaxy's eyes?
Is pride really that great of a quality to have? If you believe so, I would urge you to explain why. Respect sounds much more accepting and constructive than pride. I think, as a society, we should gain more respect, and replace our arrogant pride with that. We're not above nature, ya know? And our pride is definitely doing the world as a living entity serious damage. If the world dies, we die. Our pride can't save us from that. So what's the use in having so much of it?
