What the fuck is the deal with the whole left/right, republican/democrat thing in this fucking country?

Let's slip into fantasy land for a second and PRETEND that there is a difference between a republican candidate and a democratic candidate.

What's up with this goddamn party platform shit?

Is it really that fucking simple for the majority of this goddamn country?

Do you simply wake up one day, find yourself a democrat and suddenly become a pro-choice, socialist, anti-military, gay rights advocating, anti-gun, religion hating tree hugger?

And you republicans, does the opposite go for you? Do you wake up and find yourself a gay hating, capitalist, war mongering, gun toting, god loving killer of the environment??

What the fuck does it say about us as a society when the vast majority of said society can so easily fit themselves into two "groups"??

Wouldn't a free and forward thinking society more likely be comprised of INDIVIDUALS (key word) who couldn't so easily be lumped together based on such a pitiful (and irrelevant) set of "beliefs"?

I don't know about the rest of you, but I am incapable of trusting ANYONE who can so quickly adhere to ideologies and beliefs based on a "platform".

Are things really so black and white to us as a whole??? How can someone possibly make a decision on any issue without hearing the details of said issue on a near case by case basis?

Just to pull an example out of the air, let's take a look at the death penalty.

There are probably pretty equal numbers on the FOR and AGAINST side of this argument. However, how can one possibly be either FOR or AGAINST an issue such as this in a generic sense?

I have witnessed, time and time again, the most militant of anti-death penalty bastard condone the death penalty in the case of, say, a child kidnapper, molester, abuser and killer only to turn around later and defend someone who breaks into a home at 2:00 am and kills the mom, dad, children and the fucking dog before then running them each through the wood chipper and making "snow" angels in the blood and gore. Similar examples can also be seen on the part of those who are militantly PRO death penalty. Just this small example is enough to totally negate this whole idea of a definite "left" and "right" when it comes to beliefs and politics.

If America is all the things most of us so adamantly proclaim it is, wouldn't one expect us to be voting INDEPENDENT dynamic thinkers into political office instead of the same old carbon copies of the past?

FUCK. People are idiots.

In reality both political parties only have official stances on economic issues.

The other stuff is just excess baggage typically associated with such views on life.

I am neither; I am Upwing, socially liberal, but corporatist...Integralist more so on economics, and secular...so...I don't fit many paradigms.

Had to pick myself off the floor after falling out of my chair in laughter when he said "Crime? - I'm conservative. Prostitution? -- I'm neutral!"

Seriously, I think it's fair to say that those at the top of the heap of each party are all birds of the same feather only wearing different masks.

In any case, I think at this point in time it's more important to look closely at the candidate himself/herself from a non-partisan viewpoint. So far to me, Obama is passing the test -- but McCain is definitely another Bush IMHO. I hope Obama chooses a military man for his VP -- a military person who was against invading Iraq -- but he will probably pick Clinton as his VP -- just to get the votes.

I'm a liberal Progressive myself who usually finds herself agreeing with everything Dennis Kucinich has to say about anything and I hope he plans on running in the next election because whatever his message is at any given time, it resonates with me.

I like Ron Paul too! A lot of what he says makes a lot sense to me.

Sad, but true.

We have a "two party system" to keep people from seeing the real truth: that the government is firmly in the pockets of big business, and the only real party is the Greenback Party.

The Republicrat thing is just to keep people thinking that their votes mean something and that they have a voice, so that they stay anesthetized, happily buying shitloads worth of crap that they don't need and lining the pockets of the true owner of the world: the corporate hydra.

GN, I agree with you!

Also, GN... I would be honored if you could create an avatar for me! I thought about doing one myself but I've since changed my mind because I'm very curious to see what you would come up with! :D

Sure! i'll be working on a new one for mojo over the weekend; the more the merrier.

Would you put your request in this thread (http://amkon.net/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=2591), along with any theme/color/background requests you might have? That way we won't clutter up this thread with crosstalk. Not that there's anything wrong with that. LOL

Even blind politicians cannot be trusted.

Unlike former MPs, the British Home Secretary embraced his midlife affair, even crusading for paternity rights, writes Annabel Crabb in London.

Many a man meets a sexy younger woman lateish in life and goes a bit bonkers. When he's a politician, however, the circumstances become enormously complicated.

David Blunkett, the 57-year-old British Home Secretary, has overcome a series of difficulties in the course of his career: congenital blindness, two decades of seemingly congenital weakness in the British Labour Party, and the latter-day headaches of global terrorism are notable examples. It took a familiar imbroglio to bring him to his knees.

Blunkett's three-year affair with a younger woman, the married publisher Kimberly Fortier, 43, during which he sired one (and possibly two - she is now heavily pregnant) of her children, last week generated his resignation from the Blair Government, only months before a general election.

Dictatorship... Anyone?
