What the fuck is wrong with the vast majority of the web population?

I'm, so, fucking, sick, of, goddamn, ignorant, motherfucking, asshats, criticizing, spelling: anD! grammar. wHen they have-nothing remotely/ intelligent to add.


It was bad enough when it was primarily on movie forums and conspiracy related forums. Now, however, it seems to have taken over pretty much everywhere.

I recently purchased Age of Conan for this here laptop.

I go to check out the forums while the game is installing to prepare myself for any "known" issues in the game.

First post I check, a guy has actually made a pretty respectable post about the "eye candy" in the game being a bit rough on anything but the most bad ass of machine.

as most of you probably know, i am emmensly enjoying this game.

since i have created my necromancer, i have not logged one once yet where i didn't have fun.

there may be bugs, there may be missing content, whatever...

but i don't play mmo's for quests. i can quest in a 1 player rpg.

i play mmo's to build a character, to exist in a living world, and to interact with other players, group with my friends, and go adventuring.

what most people call "the grind" is usually what i end up doing anyways. just plain adventuring.

so the lack of content doesn't bother me (although i am only 17, not out of tortage). the fact that i'm not sure what level i need to be to continue my destiny quest doesn't bother me. i'm actually having most of my fun adventuring around on white sands isle slaying picts and thralls, and the occassional player. while the necromancer forums will claim that our class is bugged and broken (and it may well be), i am absolutely loving our class. i love our abilities and spells, i love the pets, and i am enjoying the playstyle.

the only thing that is going to stop me from being a member of this game long term is the huge technological requirements to play this game.

25 gb takes up nearly a 3rd of my hard drive space. to install this game, i have had to uninstall every single one of my other games, except oblivion, which i was able to leave on.

and the performance that i have been receiving is absolutely horrible.

now i will be the first to admit, that i don't have a top of the line system. my computer is over a year old.

but it's not a -bad- system by any means. i meet most of the recommended specs, the weak link is the fact that my processor is a 2.0 ghz core duo and the recommended is a 2.4ghz core duo. my video card is an nvidia gefore 7900 gtx, which is the exact video card listed on the box as recommended. not required, recommended.

to this point, my performance in this game has been mediocre. about 15 fps tops, on low settings, shadows disabled, and shaders set to 2.0.

and tonight just became absolutely unplayable.

i could log in, get my 12-15 fps, and play decent. then about 10 - 15 minutes into my play session, i had a sudden drop to 2.0 fps and less. i had to log. i tried logging back in, but the fps remained horrible on the ad screens and login screens. i restarted my system. logged in. got my 12-15 fps, 10-15 minutes later the fps came crashing back down. at one point, it was under 1 fps (0.8). i had to log, and restart. logged in a 3rd time. had my 12-15 fps, leveled to 17, thinking things were going good, bam, back down to 2.0 fps. i logged, and said forget it, i'm done. i'm not going to restart my system every 15 minutes to play this game. no game is THAT good.

look, i'm all for the eye candy. i'm all for the technological advances in video games.

but it's a bit ridiculous when i am having issues running this game on low settings when i not only have a good system, but i have a system that meets the required, as well as most of the recommended. when this is the case, you've put too much focus on the eye candy. you've put too much focus on how pretty the game looks, and not enough focus on making sure that your customers will be able to play it.

this is why i feel warhammer will be so successful. because that game isn't about the eye candy, it's about the gameplay, and the accessibility to the customer can actually use the product.

despite how much fun i am having in this game, and despite my thread earlier about how i will be re-subscribing after my 30 days (which i fully want to do), if this game is going to be unplayable for me, then re-subscribing is something i simply won't be able to do.

eye candy is nice, but when it's so intensive i can't even play the game, i lose the gameplay AND the eye candy.

This is what I do to keep my spelling errors to a minimum.

First I hammer out the tome on my old 1915 National mechanical typewriter. Then I run it through a scanner and digitize it, convert it to ASCII and e-mail it to my self. At that point the google e-mail automatically corrects the spelling for me and I cut and paste it into the Amkon thread.

Depends on how long they've been learning?

My wife is Thai, and English is not her first language, but within weeks of coming to the UK she was in an English as a Second Language course at the local college and now speaks and writes perfect English.
However, I am constantly aghast (and vocally so) at many of her Thai friends who have been in the UK for at least 10 years or so and who cannot read or write English and speak, in what I call 'Baby Babble'.
What pains me these days is the terrible (and widespread) use of American based idioms and speech being used in the UK.
Whilst I have no problems with the evolution of language, use of the most basic slang and the distortion of meaning of words, in general conversation irks me no end.

Yep and I know my spelling and pronunciation is sometimes terrible but you try typing on a keyboard when 4 of the fingers on one hand are all but paralysed !

what you are seeing are people who slip through the education "net" as regards "english" , I do know people who are extremely competent in both "english" (and all aspects of it) as well as mathematics, but over the years Ive really noticed that a hell of a lot of people (self included) seem to have one as a strength , the other a puzzling non-sense ..... I wonder if that "anomaly" has ever been studied and what the results were? ... Im sure it would lead to a physiological answer, a pre-determined preference imprinted in our circuits, so I dont know if maybe sometimes what is seen as a deliberate ignorance, ... needs to be looked at differently?

I have no problems with people using slang, as long as they actually know the correct English.
But (in the UK now) the problem is that the slang has moved into mainstream use, mainly from shitty US TV programmes.

I mean, take the now misused intitals that most black artists like Beyonce call their music. 'R&B'.
R&B stands for Rythmn and Blues and doesnt have the remotest connection with the shit being pumped out by Beyonce and the likes of new artists.
But so many words are now (mis) used simply because they sound cool and are used in a way totally removed from their original meaning.

Everything nowadays is 'So' this or 'So' that yet the meaning and usage is totally wrong. Its OK if 16 year old fuckwits want to use it but I would suggest anyone over 19 that uses it in the present day way is either illiterate or just trying to sound cool.
