Ford says ‘shut up’ ad was a mistake, but dealer stands behind it (http://www.bakersfield.com/hourly_news/story/458415.html)

Text of the radio advertisement

“Did you know that there are people in this country who want prayer out of schools, “Under God” out of the Pledge, and “In God We Trust” to be taken off our money?

“But did you know that 86 percent of Americans say they believe in God? Now, since we all know that 86 out of every 100 of us are Christians who believe in God, we at Kieffe and Sons Ford wonder why we don’t just tell the other 14 percent to sit down and shut up.

"I guess maybe I just offended 14 percent of the people who are listening to this message. Well, if that is the case, then I say that’s tough; this is America, folks — it’s called free speech. And none of us at Kieffe and Sons Ford are afraid to speak up. Kieffe and Sons Ford on Sierra Highway in Mojave and Rosamond: if we don’t see you today, by the grace of God, we’ll be here tomorrow.”

Rick Kieffe, president of Kieffe & Sons Ford, said he didn’t regret the ad but was sorry if it had offended anyone.

“I don’t regret the sentiment at all,” said Kieffe, who bought the 48-year-old dealership from his father in 1974. “It’s what we believe.”

Kieffe & Sons has sites in Mojave and Rosamond.

The dealer’s Web site Thursday bore a statement about the ad that included an apology “to all who were offended.”

Kieffe said he’d been contacted by Ford Motor Co. after the manufacturer heard complaints from numerous “blog-lo-dites.”

The company asked him to post something saying he was sorry if he’d offended anyone, Kieffe said.

When asked whether he’ll use longtime ad man J.W. Horne of Oklahoma for future promos, Kieffe didn’t hesitate.

“Without question,” Kieffe said. “He’s a middle-America person.”

Horne, meanwhile, said it was “very unfortunate some were offended” by the spot.

“Our intentions are good,” Horne said in a phone interview.

But, he added, “the truth is the truth.”

On his blog at jwhorne2.blogspot.com, Horne seemed to relish his moment in the limelight.

“... Isn’t it just too bad that so many people got their feelings hurt over one little ole sixty second radio commercial,” Horne wrote Thursday. “... The backlash from some of those self-styled unbelievers is the point I was making about why some people should be told to sit down and shut up.”

Hey fucktards, sit down and shut up!

And take your imaginary friends with you..

86 percent of people believing in god does not equal 86 percent of Americans are xians.

There's a whole hell of a lot of other imaginary friends here in the US, and a lot of followers of them.

Arrogance, it's always arrogance with certain xians. Add a heaping helping of ignorance, and you can do the Ance Dance all day long.

The truth is the truth, eh? Here's a truth for you, Mr. Whackjob Car Dealer, sir: you are deluded and I'm embarrassed to share a country with you.

You know they fucked up when they embarrassed their parent corporate entity into forcing them to "apologize."

Though it had more to do with the fourteen percent of potential customers they insulted rather than anything of an ethical nature.

Here is the fuck-o's APOLOGY:

This statement is provided in response to reaction prompted by a radio commercial that Kieffe & Sons Ford recently ran referring to issues of God in our schools and on our money.

"For 15 years, Kieffe and Sons Ford has run ad campaigns that focus on current events. We have chosen to do this rather than presenting typical car sales ads. We do this through an agency that develops the material and sends us a package of commercials to review. From this, we select commercials that we distribute to area radio stations. Frequently we emphasize humor and patriotic themes, as we are located adjacent to two military bases. Public response over these 15 years has been hugely positive, often eliciting calls and visits from appreciative individuals. Regrettably, the commercial that has prompted the current objection to religious sentiment ("Under God", "In God We Trust") was not closely reviewed by our dealership before it went live. The commercial has been replaced. We apologize to all who were offended. It is Kieffe and Sons' intention to support America and the freedoms that make this country great."

Rick Kieffe, President

Sorry I just dont see what the big deal is. The guy paid the money for an ad on the radio, and said what he wanted what he believed. I dont agree with him, but it is his right to say it, just like it is peoples right to disagree and not give him their business.

I am sorry but this just boils down to the current state of this country, if people dont like what other people say, they pull out that PC bullshit, or that spreading hate bullshit. I wish both sides would just damn give it up, give it a fucking rest, I am so sick and tired of the, oh you offended me, now apologize, this goddamn kindergarten country we live in just pisses me off. You dont like what is being said, dont listen, that goes for everyone, you dont like what I am writing here, fuck off then :D

I also would bet that they made a damn killing from this ad, all the mind whacked christian patriots I am sure heard this and squirted in their pants, then went directly to the dealer and bought themselves a finely made piece of american machinery. By god.

Absofuckiglutely.

I value my right to be able to purchase and run an opposing ad so I MUST value their right as well.

I disagree with the message AND them being made to apologize for it.
