Thousands and thousands of flights every hour. That's a lot of planes. And a lot of opportunity for contrails to form and re-form over the airways (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airway_%28aviation%29).

I don't come to the same conclusion. I watch planes fly over my house all the time. Guess what? Not all the vapor trails are the same, even when the planes could be right next to each other. Atmospheric conditions aren't that much different to allow for the formation of radically different contrails that close.

I'm sorry, but I don't buy it. The German government recently admitted chemtrails were to combat global warming aka cloud seeding. They exist, maybe not as what some CTers have described, but they are certainly different than contrails.

The atmosphere is in layers and unless you have access to a weather balloon and a laser distance sensing equipment you have no actual idea where those trails are in relation to one another and which layer of the atmosphere it is in. Your eyes can be deceived (and they often are) especially when it comes to judging distances of objects in the sky.

Well, I was a kid in the 70's and we had contrails, it's just that air traffic is so much more common today. When I was growing up, it wasn't exactly a global village. People didn't, as a general rule, travel nearly so much as they do now, and would tend to drive or take the train or bus.

I didn't know what a chemtrail was, so I googled it. After reading a few sites I believe its not real.

It's a computer generated image showing the number of planes in flight in the US every time-elapsed hour for one day based on FAA data for that day. I thought it should illustrate pretty well just how congested the airways really are. Like GN said, chemtrailers always make the claim that there are more contrails today than there used to be, citing that as proof of conspiracy. This video clearly shows why there are more trails today. There is simply more flights.

If you look at the time index (not clear in the YouTube vid, but it is on the APOD vid) you should note the times when there is a burst of air traffic. It pretty much matches up with most of the times the so called 'chemtrail grids' were taken. That is, morning and evening.

Weather modification surely exists. I don't doubt that possibility. I do doubt 99.9% of the pictures of alleged chemtrails I see are actually the result of some secret operation by governments/clandestine agencies. Indeed, I have seen only one picture of an alleged chemtrail that strikes me as 'bizarre'.

This is silly. I am sick to death of trawling through countless chemtrailer sites, all giving vastly differing information with the common thread that they all don't know much of what they are talking about, let alone meteorological or aviation concepts. You can post 10 million different URLs to different websites but unless you can form YOUR OWN cogent and cohesive argument FOR chemtrails in the form of contrails, there really isn't much motivation for me to address anything YOU post.

One more time.

1. Explain what constitutes a chemtrail.
2. Highlight the difference between a chemtrail and a contrail.
3. Explain what exactly the purpose of chemtrails are.
4. Explain how the creation of so many alleged chemtrail is covered up even among people in the aviation industry.
