And that's where it should bloody well stay.

Yes that's probably a little harsh, but don't you think that if we all just looked after our own countries a little better and said "sod off" to all these foreigners who seem to think it's their right to get aid (not really the people, but the Gov.'s of) when ever something bad happens, like they spend all their tax revenue on guns so they can shoot each other!

How many billions of aid has been poured in to Africa and still the crops fail and the rains don't come and the people start wars over nothing.

Live aid was in 1985, twenty three years ago.

Is there some fundamental reason that the aid giving system just doesn't work?

Are we screwing with the environmental balance of the planet by feeding people who live where people should not be living?

America's people have crappy health care, but they give billions away in aid every year... WTF...

Jobs go abroad to countries that are receiving our governments money (India) and our countrymen end up on the dole... WTF...

Is it time we started saying fuck um and just look after our own?

Or would that put the US/UK in a poor position with the rest of the world?

I agree.

The problems with the aid money is that it gets diverted into tinpot dictator bank accounts and warlord humvees.

Aid is'nt flawed, it just depends on the country, some countries that have received aid have flourished and improved greatly while some have'nt.

The problem is corruption in the countries that don't seem to improve.

As for America, our Healthcare system has nothing to do with aid, it has to do with the Über capitalists not being able to stand the idea of everyone receiving equal, free and comprehensive medical care.
It also has to do with the fact that we spend over half a trillion dollars a year on our military, that's more then five times more then the country that's in second place and more then nine times the amount that any of our enemies or future enemies spend.

Ok then Iori.

Which would you prefer: to give away billions in aid or; have a weak ass military so that China (that obviously scares you) can walk all over your country and take control of the fine grain growing land that the US has.

And yes the corruption in some of these aid receiving countries is beyond the pale.

I would prefer we cut military spending by 200 billion, leaving us still far ahead of any of our potential enemies, as well as stop giving Israel billions every year for their military, especially when they have in the past sold military secrets to China.

Plus aid makes countries like you more, and gives you even greater international influence, and international influence is half the war.

But another thing you have to take in to context is that to get anything made in the US it cost 20 times what it would cast to have it made in China!

Plus aid makes countries like you more

Tell that to the soldiers that died in Somalia! (Black Hawk Down) How much aid has the US given that country, but they didn't think twice about hacking US soldiers to peices and dragging their body parts around town, did they now.
