I don't think all of us will die in any kind of disaster. We have made it through worse natural disasters than now. If you believe in the biblical flood account, which transcends just christianity/judaism (most religions have a flood story) we will adapt and evolve to come against new disasters.

The parallels between us and a virus are pretty clear. If a virus pollutes its host with its toxins enough, the host dies, so the virus dies.

I do think that no matter what we throw at it, the planet and life of some sort will survive whatever we do. But I don't think we're going to be able to survive our own toxins -- plastics, industrial chemicals, etc.

It'll take the earth a while to heal, but it will. And then the cockroach people will reign supreme.
